Apparently AICN now kowtows to the studios and pulls down spy shots as soon as they're asked to. But they leak anyhow.
Here's Bumblebee, mid-transformation. BB is traditionally a Beetle but for this outing he's a Camaro Concept.
Darth Lefty
Tue 6/27/06, 7:42PM
Here's BB in disguise. These Camaros are cool looking. If they bring it out in a T-top I'll have a hard time not getting one.
The Mustang cruiser is a Decepticon named Brawl.

Here's Devastator, looking badass as ever. I have another pic but it doesn't add much to this.

Finally here's "Bonecrusher"... no clue on this guy.
Is it any wonder the Decepticons are so cool? The Autobots have silly cars and trucks and ambulances, and the Decepticons have guns and warplanes and tanks...

Funny. I was checking out all of these vehicles today...they're created/fabricated by one of our friends' shop. The police car/Mustang is especially impressive. All the reports from guys I work with (that worked/drove/did stunts on the film) said that it was a bass-ackwards nightmare.

i wonder what the story line is gonna be....having cars that talk and transform into walking machines is passable as a kid cartoon..but making it into what may be a PG or PG-13 movie may seem kinda corny

Well, let's just say that Michael Bay is an ass....
As for your link, it's got nothing to do with the movie, as far as I know...
See anything... else? That you can tell us about?
Nothing I can tell you about...sorry. That's the downside to this business - you can't brag about ALL the shit you get to see :D
...although, I did get to drive a 780 horsepower police car last week. A Chevy Caprice with a twin-turbo'd 'Vette motor. Pretty damn intense. Especially 'cause it looks like a police car, and I was driving it on the street. 70 MPH rolling burnouts are fun.... :)

I heard that they wanted to make Bumblebee a New Beetle, but VW/Audi wasn't on board. So he is going to start as an Old Beetle and then get fixed up as a Cam.
All hearsay, though.

I really hope this movie doesn't suck, but the buzz around the internet is that it is some serious shit and should be impressive. It doesn't have a Star Wars like budget, which is good, because too much CGI is lame.
Changing the vehicles doesn't bother me. A camaro is much cooler than a VW, anyway. Besides, the only transformer I care about is Soundwave. Wanna see him breakdance? Click on the www below my post. :)

Ya...good point. I did like the comic book reference to them tho in the first movie.
Considering that in the cartoons, they turned Optimus Prime into a gorilla, I can give a little ground over Bumblebee being a Camaro.
At least he's a car, and he transforms into a friggin robot! w00t!

VW wouldn't give them the license to make Bumblebee a New Beetle (didn't want to be associated with anything violent), so blame Volkswagen, not the producers.

What I mean by "too much CGI" is like in Star Wars where there's CGI crap just all over the freakin' place. More than necessary and so much so that it's distracting and corny. Plus, as an example, I think the Jaba the Hutt in ROTJ looks better than the CGI Jaba in Episode I because you can tell he's tangible. But anyways, now I'm getting OT.

Too many goddamned yes men in his organisation, you're not allowed to argue or discuss things with him, George is always right.
You can't tell me that CG was unnecessary in the Lord of the Rings movies?
Well done cg is nearly indistinguishable from reality, but the simple fact is that good effects won't save a terrible movie, I worked on Stealth, I know :)

if i had his kagillion dollars, all i would hire is mofo who would agree with my every whim too, cuz i could afford too..
some CG does get a little crappy, "Deep Blue Sea" with LL Cool J is a fine example of that, but i think the movie will kick ass anyway..
Clash of the Titans was one of the most awesome movies ever. The last 3 Star Warts movies were some of the worst cgi animated crap I've ever seen.
For pure entertainment I'll take the Dark Crystal or Gumby reruns over Doom3 or Matrix 3 anyday.

I have never noticed the CGI in SW, and I only noticed it in Gone in 60 Seconds after it was pointed out.
The sheen of the Mustang is the only thing that is annoying, though. The launched Chargers in Dukes of Hazzard do look better, but CGI doesn't look all that bad to me. As for SW, I seriously don't see how you can make a good looking space epic without CGI.

That's a neat looking truck - sort of, but there's a lot of people out here who like to do rediculous things to their trucks just to show off. But you never know, that could be a prop from the movie.

The movie's website is running a contest where you can submit a line to be spoken by Optimus Prime in the movie.
Top ten entries (chosen by the writers) will be made into ring tones by voice actor Peter Cullin. A popular vote will determine which one gets written into the script.

Cool. Cool, cool.
I've read that the transformers won't look really anything like they did in the cartoon or comic books in robot form, i.e. kind of blocky. They'll look much more mechanical, what a robot that can also shape into the form of _________ might really look like.
The plot might suck, the acting might suck, but as long as there's cool looking robots blowing stuff up, I'll be on of the first geeks in line to see it.

A friend of mine works at Technicolor Sound Services. The guy doing the sound editing and creation is working in one of their studios in Burbank.
He lets my friend in on watching some of the dailies and he told me that the guy's aim was to tribute the old cartoons as far as the noises they make. SO hopefully he stuck to his guns and you wont be disappointed.

That was pretty sweet.
One possible negative -- did Optimus Prime look like he was going to get all kung-fu on someone? I didn't really like that about Yoda in Star Wars, and it'd be equally lame in Transformers, IMO.
One big positive -- the "transforming" sound was there. :)

Well put.
My friend was complaining about Optimus' paint job.
My response:
"Hey! Truck cab. Robot. Peter Cullen. Works for me."
And concerning complaints about Optimus' lips... when I was young I just assumed that all Transformers had lips... Optimus just wore a face mask for the cool factor. I mean, his mask moved up and down when he talked... was I to assume that was just a really thumpy bass woofer doing that?
I mean... do people believe that ninjas and bank-robbers don't have lips?
i was disappointed at first when i saw images of the redesigned autobots and decepticons. but i'm starting to come around the more scenes i see from the movie.

A trailer is only marketing material. It's supposed to convince you that you want it, no matter what it is. Don't believe any trailer you see. A lot of the time the things in the trailers don't happen in the movies. In the end, the movie is what to judge quality on, not the trailer.
I loved Transformers when I was a kid. I was very sad when Optimus was killed in the movie. When I watch the show and the movie now that I'm older, I can understand how poor the quality in storytelling and artwork is. The pure nostalgia of my childhood attachment isn't going to make the old products good, nor will it determine the quality of the film. I've seen many movies, to my chagrin, that have tried to capitalize on my nostalgia and have been disappointed many times. I always feel taken advantage of by those trying to make a buck off of my childhood memories and emotions.
I have yet to see a movie directed by Michael Bay which can be professionally critiqued positively. They are always full of over the top action sequences to hide an otherwise paltry film production. They are all poorly told, poorly and frenetically shot, have terrible acting performances by and large, and have very little cognitive or artistic engagement.
I wish I could get excited about this movie. Instead, I fear that spending the 11+ dollars will only help to inspire further productions directed at taking advantage of me. So sad...

Tue 6/26/07, 3:50PM
You know what I like about Michael Bay movies? They are movies! With lots of action, and rediculous stuff... Because they are movies, not real life. And that's okay.... If you want spot on writing, read a novel. Movies are for sheer entertainment value. Make you squirm in your seat. Transformers doesn't pretend to be an epic saga, of all that is good fighting all that is evil... It's a bunch of robots duking it out, and showing off technology that doesn't exist.
Givin nerds ideas and shit.
I'ma see it, and I'ma like it.

I think it'll be freaking awesome. That's what I want to see - movies about giant transforming robots from another planet suckin' up energon cubes and firing laser pistols at each other.
The LAST kind of movie I want to see, is anything where one man dies very very slowly and some woman gives him sponge baths and they talk about the last summer they spent together in Paris.

I haven't seen 300. So I can't speak from experience, however I heard some other guys telling their friend about it (via cell phone) and saying it was probably as good as 300. Same amount of action, just different kind of movie.
There's definitely some corny parts, but I didn't expect a particularly intellectual experience from a movie based on comics/cartoons.
EXCELLENT job on the CGI. I didn't feel like I was watching Episode I again. They integrated the robots into their environment nicely. Some cool slow-mo parts, too, to show off their work.
All in all, I'd give it two thumbs up. =D>

:-?
Saw it. Enjoyed it. Thought there were several things I would have preferred to have seen.
I thought the robots were *too* detailed... they just looked like a busy mess of metal. It might have been fine if they had just pulled away during the action scenes... but way too often the action scenes were way too close-up and it was hard to tell what was really going on.
I thought they made the government suits waaaaay over-the-top stupid. "I'd bet my ridiculous government salary on it!" Wtf?
They showed Prime with the mouth shield briefly... and he looked *sooo* much better with it on.
It's funny... usually movies are praised for staying true to the original. With some of the cheesy transformer dialogue, they managed to stay true to the original in the movie. Unfortunately, what was cheesy in the cartoon was ten times as cheesy in the movie. As a result though... despite finding myself rolling my eyes... it gave me that nostalgic "that's the Optimus Prime I remember" feeling.
Other quick notes. The first 45 minutes of the movie take forever to develop. The signal analyst chick and most of the "super duper well over up and beyond top top top secret classified" government portions of the movie were ultimately useless and unnecessary. Too many scenes where it was like, "how the hell do you not notice a 3 story tall robot walking around the building?"
I enjoyed it though. Definitely fun watching it on the big screen. 6/10.

Assistant that got me in? Got me in what? April certainly deserved to go, as she was my assistant for the Transformers shoot... but explain where she got me into? Honestly, the only reason I asked to be included on the preview list was cuz I knew Wm was jonesin' to see it.

THE MOVIE IS AWESOME
There was one thing lacking, and that was some more character development on the bots. There were so many people in the movie that the bots get little time to establish personalities other than sound bytes in an intro scene. There's a cartoon show coming this fall, so that should satisfy that jones all right.
Now, when do we get a Megas XLR movie?

Are you kidding? Regardless of how a movie ends, if there's more money to be made from the product, there'll be a sequel. It's already done well overseas this past week.
Sequels were "greenlighted" at the end of May.

Starscream got away, Megs is mostly intact despite his apparently mortal injuries, and each set of bots has some kind of ship somewhere that got them to Earth in the first place. Lots of sequel material.

He had a pack on... okay, yeah, it was cheesy. But the people in the movie survive way worse crap. Except for the guy that Megs flicked, I'm pretty sure he's dead.
PS, can any of you movie industry types confirm that that guy made the Wilhelm scream?
I just want to say that if you are one of those people who likes to be a hater because its cool or you're just that jaded or whatever... AND you are a Transformers fan who is boycotting the movie because it is a Bay flick and he'll fuck it up...
All you are doing is depriving yourself of THE best Transformers fan service you could ask for... and eight years from now or whatever when you decide to give it a chance on DVD to see what that crackpot Michael Bay did to your precious Transformers... you're going to pee your pants over how much of an idiot you were to pass up this movie in the theaters!
Sold, sold, and sold... this movie made me feel like a dorky kid again!

+1. probably my only gripe with the movie. in the heat of battle it was hard for me to tell who was who because the robots looked too much like each other up close. bumblebee and optimus prime were the easiest to spot because the had bright colors that stood out.
i thought the visuals were most effective when they weren't trying to shove a camera lens up the robots' asses. in particular, the scene with optimus prime getting cross-checked by bonecrusher off the freeway. that was an awesome scene!
Was anybody else expecting that motorcycle to transform?
I thought it got hit by the all-spark and was going to wake up as... like... Wheelie or something.

Rob, you should go watch it first. You'll want to see it again. And you can decide if it meets your standards.

I just hope Michael Bay doesn't direct the next one . . .
There were some parts where I was like "holy crap, this is so freakin' cool!!!" but those were only the parts with the Transformers. Too often I was like "god damn, why does this matter? Who is that? Why are they in the story? Where are the Transformers?" There were a ton of human characters in this movie, yet the only ones that mattered were Spike, his dad (sort of), his girlfriend, the Secretary of Defense, and those couple special forces guys (not Sector 7). Everyone else was unnecessary. I would have liked more screen time of robots transforming, rolling out, blowing stuff up or even just shooting the breeze. That's what I went to see the movie for.
The Transformers were a little busy looking, but they were pretty damn cool. The Decepticons are pretty ruthless. And all the Transformers kind of laid waste to downtown LA. Oops.
I'll be anxious for all the extras on the DVD and for the sequel in a few summers.

I think I have a bladder infection from holding it so long. I dind't want to miss one second of the nonstop action.
I agree the analyst stuff was retarded. They had to throw in the fat black funny man for no reason...I mean seriously.
lowsiding and sliding on your back is not a controlled event as the movie would suggest.
It would have been cool to see more of Cybertron.
It was too busy with the camera zoomed in. The dopest shots were zoomed out or the slow-mo moments.
It would have been a little better if they could have given it an R rating and gotten dark with it.....I think I counted 3 people actually dying (or I had to assume they were dead) ...but I understand they want to bring in that kid parent money...
Anyways...Rob...even though it was PG-13...there were a lot of adult humor scenes that you might not want your kid to see.
Sam's happy hour anyone? hahaha
Anyways...everybody GO SEE THIS FLICK! (and fandango your tickets...we had to wait in a line for an hour or so......

There's an uncomfortable moment where the mom asks the kid if he was masturbating (while he's hiding the robots). If that will bother your 7yo, or his mom, then no. But the violence is all Tom and Jerry stuff.

i like that at the kids movie they played the gay wedding trailer... sweet. that one slut was hot, and the stupid ass teeny girl beside me kept text messaging her friends until i had to say something - then she looked at me like there was no brain behind her eyes and kept texting - her fatass dad stared on and her little sister played Gameboy thru the whole movie - that ruined it for me kinda..
but the robots were okay i guess....

Dude, that was the funniest line of the god damn movie. Are you still uncomfortable with people talking about masturbation?
And that little dumb girl's fat fuck for a dad wasn't going to be beating anyone up. We would have sicked Brad's girlfriend's sister on him. Abasnail would have taken his ass out.

Well, we just saw it yesterday at the Cinedome in Hollywood. It was awesome. They wasted no time getting to the action! I don't think I really have anything new to add here since you guys already covered everything. A few lame lines, lots of action, blah blah blah... :D

Leave it to Michael Bay to F-up a great action movie with ill placed tender moments. Other than that a good movie.
I'm an old Transformers fan from when I was a kid. I was real excited to go see the movie. But, I have to say, though the special effects were off the chain, I did think alot of the dialogue was a bit corny. In fact, some of the scenes were a bit corny altogether. However, I don't think I wasted my money. Is was good I just think the plot could have been much better. If anything Michale Bay pulled off a live action mecha movie. For those of us who used to play the Mechwarrior video games on the PC and Xbox, this movie shows they could come out with a slammin flick about that which would probably be a more story rich sci-fi movie if you get the right writers to come up with a decent plot. In fact, did the scene where the Decepticon attacks the army base in the beginning of the movie remind anyone else of Mechwarrior?

Definitely. I am a big Mech' fan. (Dont tell anyone) I think Mech II was the best one. My computer wont run the newer games. AMD Athalon 64 laptop, apparently with a crappy video card.

The action and CGI work was fairly incredible. For the bad, the dialog ranged from okay to horrible cringe worthy. The storyline/plot points were about the same as well.
I was okay with Prime's corny dialogue because... well... it's Prime. All his dialogue in the cartoon was corny.
Agreed on the rest of it.
