View Full Version : Movie: Superman Returns
just returned from an advanced screening. i liked the movie a lot. i've heard a few movie critics bemoan the fact that the movie borrows a lot from the christopher reeve movies but i thought that it actually gave the new movie a connection to the old movies. and the action scenes are what you'd expect from bryan singer: awesome!
and the theatre showed a trailer for spider-man 3. you can check it out at apple's quicktime site here.

I just returned from Superman Returns also and it was AWESOME. It was a great story line with a lot of ups, downs, and surprises. Yes it did seem like a borrowed a couple of things from the previous Superman movies but it just adds a transition in the time line.
The effects were awesome, just leaves you at the edge of your seats with your mouth wide open.
Go see it, its a must see.

My dad saw an advanced screening and he didn't think much of it...hmm....
My son went too (6 y/o) and he hasn't talked much about it either, which surprised me since when he went to the screening, he wanted to wear a superman costume.
Eh...Batman could kick his ass anyways. :D
Superman is my hero! Saw it, loved it!

Isn't it supposed to take place after the second movie?

i saw an "HBO-Making-of" feature; the directers wanted to bring it bak to its roots, pay tribute to the Reeves versions and they even used Marlon Brando voice bits from the original movie that were scrapped), and the "ship" looks just like the one from the 1st move; it is its own story though...

I'm guessing that now would be a bad time to mention that Brandon Routh was shagging Bryan Singer ? :)

This movie was on just about every level, satisfying. It had action, a decent storyline, humor and a good number of 'awe inspiring' type scenes. The plane sequence was just plain (no pun intended) cool. As well, some critics criticized Routh for channeling Christopher Reeves turn in the movie. I thought this made the change of actors (as obviously was necessary) mostly transparent. There were quite a few good moments humor wise as well, for instance a part where everyone was in White's office dealing with who should cover the story on Superman returning. Overall I was pleased with how the movie turned out. It wasn't perfect, but it was still a mostly triumphant return to the screen.

When I was sitting in the theater when Superman saves the plane I felt like I was in the movie and I was glad that Superman was back to save us all.
Talk about a big intro to Superman being back in action

superman returns does take place five years after superman 2, i believe. according to my brother, bryan singer felt that superman 3 and 4 were not "true" superman movies. in other words, they were made to cash in on the franchise and not add to the mythology of superman.

This movie is good, not as good as Spiderman or X men, but better than The Craptastic 4. The action is good, the plot is weak. Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey do a great job (with the material that they have to work with). Louis Lane needs some more acting lessons and a hair transplant to move her hair line down onto her forehead (sorry, but it really distracted me during the whole movie). There is a good plot surprise, but a few characters are introduced with no real role in the film (the mother). The movie is 2 1/2 hours long, but didn't seem like it.
If you miss it at the theater, it is a good rental. I still don't know where the @ $230 million went that this movie cost. Good special effects, but nothing groundbreaking.

move over Ewan I am now in love w/ young B
does he like bikes?
Holy Crap that was totally bitching
Justice, Som (good to see you again) and I saw it last night after pigging out on Rubio's and gummy bears.
Yes I'm bias because Brandon is soo f'g hot but he was really good. As was Kate, Parker Posey as always and everyone else. I loved how it brought in classic aspects of the prior superman movies but was totally fresh at the same time. So many little things made it visually entertaining.
Loved it, loved it, loved it and will see it again.

Please go see this movie! If we make enough money I'll get an extra day off at Christmas and New Year...
And after Poseidon... we need the cash. That movie sank faster than the bloody ship.
Seriously, it's a great movie. I managed to meet some of the cast and they were really nice. Brandon's a pretty laid back kind of lad. I hope he's ready for the media storm.

I just watched the movie last night. It is by far the best comic to big screen movies I have seen. The first action scene has you on the edge of your seat. It does a great job of setting up Superman for a whole series of sequals.
If the stupid high school twats would have shut up for minute during the movie it would have been better. I can't wait until the studios start to release the DVD the same time they release to the theaters so you don't have to deal with the asshats in the theater.

well. WB makes a re-make of a flop back from 70's. The original was WB's biggest loss of money, what made them think that the re-make will be different. I worked for 6 months designing the stupid poster ( actually poster was cool, movie was stupid) and that was the best part of the Crapsaidon.

You did a great job with the poster... do you work for WB or are you guys hired in for this kind of work?

I get hired by design studio, who gets hired by the movie studio. so i guess I'm kinda like a mercenary of movie advertising industry.
LOL

I heard something about that too. The studio spent serious cash removing the guys package from shots because it was downright scary to some folks. Well, he is Superman and all...

Saw it last night. REALLY liked it. I loved how it kept the style and theme of the Reeve movies, instead of adopting the cookie cutter comic movies recently (spiderman, x-men, fantastic four, daredevil, etc etc)

just do what i do get up and yell at them to shut the fuck up or you will break there legs. i got a standing ovation in the middle of a movie for being the only one to say something to the punks messing it up for all of us.
It also helps im 6 foot 6 and 315 pounds it kinda shuts people up.

This move rocked!! yeah, im a nerd, but..... with a pure homage' to Christopher Reeves... anyone that has anything negative to say, should just sit back and enjoy the movie for its true entertainment value...and if u didnt like it, (im preachin again).. go see it in IMAX 3D... in-fuckin-credible
*the plane saving scene... almost brought a tear to my eye- when he appears in the publics eye for the first time,..er...again...

Only, if he was ____ in Superman 2 when they ____, how is it possible that _____?
(Also, logistics? (http://www.rawbw.com/~svw/superman.html) )

not quite as good but still cool
more of a drama then action movie, a chick flick of sorts
saw a show on the history channel about the comic books - Superman was the first superhero I guess, neato
and the movie held true to him

Hmmm, it was alright, some good action scenes, also some pretty boring scenes. If the theater had AC it would have been even better.
