Sounds good to me, I've been riding a lot lately and would like to continue the streak. Count me in for now. Hopefully I can get my bud NateDawg to come out on his brand new SV1k.
Having started our ride this AM at 7:00 it was nice to get back before it got HOT, but I suspect the coast will be nice and cool even later on in the day.
I wouldn't mind starting earlier though... when I lived in Tucson and was riding a lot, we would start before dawn, around 5:30, and be at the canyons just as the sun rose above the mountains. It was beautiful, and the only way to survive when the high temps were in the 110's.
8:15 it is, at the PCH/Sunset.

Hmmmmmmmm......... (sound of an arm being gently twisted), I suppose if Evan's going................ and I guess if he already suggested I should go too................... and I suppose I do need to get this brand-new, squeeky clean, purty black SV1000S broken in good and proper like.
:-?
...........................and it is summer in Socal and all that.
Weeeeeeellllllllll, I guess I'll be there. But 8 is pretty early. Most folks don't begin their ride at 7:30. Are you sure you want to start at 7? I mean, 6:30 is kinda early.
OKAYFINE. I'll be there at 8.

Though Marcia I will be joining rides probably in late July when I get back and get my new front rubber on. My rubber is so worn that I'm getting nervous on long rides where I think it might actually blow! so I'm sticking to just commuting 6miles to school until the new rubber is on.

Well that depends on you really, the roads we are taking will be be very twisty and some will be downhill so I don't want to say that it is newbie 'friendly'.... You are welcome to join us and of course you should ride at a comfortable pace that is safe, no matter what. How long have you been riding and how much canyon riding have you done?

If you're comfortable on your bike in the canyons, and can ride your own pace, I'd say come on out and join us. If you're unfamiliar with some portions of the route, you could always check them out before Sunday. Should be a pleasant morning! ;)

I cage that route almost everyday for work. I think that I've seen you around. Don't worry, I'm not a stalker!!
Anyway, I know those roads and as Bristolbird says, they are very twisty. They are some suprise turns, gravel, downhill, etc. But that isn't that what we live for?
At some point, you ought to be able to handle the twisty bits. Why not start now. The only thing...... RIDE YOUR OWN PACE!!! You should ride at a maximum of 8/10. I usually ride at 7/10.
Don't try to keep up...... well... unless that is within your limits.
Go on out! I have met these people and they are all very nice and are going to be concerned for your safety.

There's no better way to get better than by following better riders. That sometimes means you only see them for one or two corners, at which point they're out pacing you and you need to just concentrate on the road... but it still helps. Like everyone else said, just ride your own pace and you won't have a problem. And some of us have been riding for far too long and are happy to coach newbies or give advice and answer any questions you might have. For the advice alone, it's probably worth coming out.
Just don't try to keep up.
We don't say that to be cocky or to show off, it just means, that if you are TRYING to go as fast as a faster rider, you don't have any more left when something **bad** happens or if you make a mistake. Ride your own ride. You know when you're uncomfortable, listen to that inner voice.
Hope to see you there, should be a great bunch of riders.

Thu 7/6/06, 12:48PM
If you feel uncomfortable, you are riding too fast for your abilities. Don't worry about keeping up, we wait for everyone at intersections, stop signs, and at the top.
Nobody gets left behind. That also serves if there's an accident because we'll know something's up when 15 minutes goes buy and someone hasn't shown up.
i should be there, i say go even if you are new, I am still not all that confident on downhill turns so i will be in the back on piuma. i almost ate it on stunt road last time, too much preload and not enough rebound on my rear shock.
You are much better off going with a group that will wait for you, if you crash, someone will notice you're missing.
damn, you guys are cool as hell, ill be setting my alarm for saturday...ill ride up and check the roads out before too...so i at least know what it looks like.
I had just seen other rides where there was a fast group and slow going at the same time...if you guys are normally the fast group, i didnt wanna be holding everyone up too badly...

I wear a black jacket and gloves, and a kbc assassin helmet...my daily route is from work between 5&6pm (Sunset&Vine) down sunset to PCH up topanga all the way til i get to chatsworth (or whatever town it is where the fun part ends) and then all the way back the same way...

If you set your alarm for Saturday, you'll be a bit early for the scheduled ride (sunday), but if you want to go check out the roads beforehand that might be a good time. Don't see the point, though, since it's SO much safer to be out there with the group (even one other rider) and we'll be there on Sunday... just wait a day and ride with us.
As for the "fast group" and "slow group" deliniations, sometimes we do that when it's a BIG group and we know who is definitely faster than the others (usually those who know the roads best) so they can stay out in front and not get held up or freak out the noobs. There is a natural selection on twisty roads that you'll see happen on this ride... By the second stop people have a pretty good idea of where in the pack they belong. You'll pretty much end up in the correct order because the faster riders will either start towards the front anyway, or pass their way up.
No worries. You're not slowing anyone down.
See you Sunday,
-Evan

Well this is starting to look like a large group so I wanted to say a couple of things....
I don't want ANY squids on this ride, period. If you are planning on bringing a friend whose riding might be questionable, please reconsider.
If the group is too large it will get broken up and I may ask someone to lead a second group. If you know the area and might be interested in leading a second group, please let me know.
Part of the ride will be around Westlake Lake which is residential, please be considerate as I don't want to annoy the residents and have them call the popo.
Videoing is fine by me as long as you aren't bothering anyone by riding on their arse or trying to get around people for the sake of your video.... If you cause someone to crash because you are trying to get some good footage, lets just say that, you won't be very popular.... and you may want to ask them if you plan to specifically film someone.
Gear Up
Show up on time
Gas Up
Ride Safely and be considerate
Have fun
Thanks :D

Yep.
Or, you could take the 101 S to the 27 to the 1. When you hit PCH, turn left (east) and go about 3 miles.
Or, you could just make your way directly to the 1 from Camarillo on your choice of roads (Las Posas? 23?, N9?) and spend more time on the 1.
I'll be heading down from Santa Barbara myself - either taking the 101 to Las Posas to the 1, or if running late, taking the 101 to the 27 which might be the faster route.

Seriously though, I totally second that. It's no fucking fun having to hold someone's hand while we wait for a chopper to fly in and pick them up, and even worse having to have your hand held.
Have fun, ride smart, and stay within your limits. Save the race for the track.
And if you're new, do not worry about "holding someone up". They'll get around when it's safe. You don't have to worry about them.

It kills me to say it, but I'm gonna have to take back my RSVP for the ride. I had a week full of ridiculous work hours and my sleep schedule is WAY outta whack (you'll have to excuse me if I don't make any sense). I did a 27 hour shift, slept for 5 hours during the day, did a 12 hour shift, and been awake ever since (going on 27 hours now). I think this ride would be hazardous to my health and my bike. This is the second time I've had to back out of a Malibu ride. Maybe one day I'll get to do one! Anyway, I hope everyone has a great time and be safe.

Yeah, if you're riding on sleep deprivation, in twisty canyons, in the heat, you're setting youself up for a "blow it." It's good sense to take a pass. Catch up on you're sleep and join the group another day. ;)

Thanks to everyone who came out today, I think we had about 18 or so riders to begin with. It started heating up quite a bit when we were out in Agoura/Westlake but cooled off nicely as we came back over the hills - that little patch of fog was a nice way to cool down a bit. Gladly, there is nothing bad to report.

I only did Los Flores and Piuma before I took off to go to Buttonwillow, but it was fun. Makes me wish I could borrow a street bike every weekend for a group ride. :)

Yes, thanks for sweeping, it would've been really hard keeping the group together otherwise, and thanks to Evan et al for helping out. Sorry to those who took a little detour on PCH, (I thought I had stopped long enough for everyone to catch up).
And what is up with all the car clubs? Have they always been around because I don't remember seeing them so often before.
Glad that you all had a great ride. Yes, that is the problem with the Malibu area. Over the past two years, there have been more and more car clubs. A lot of them have money for fast cars but lack the skill to keep their car in their lane.

I guess they haven't all been checking out the 'Biker Hunks' thread lately... :p

And you are Kurrrrrt...WHO?
J/K! :p Actually, I'm just now back, only a shower-ago, from my first track day at Buttonwillow.
HOT!
But you knew that already. It was set up by ProItalia. Lotza ducs, but only ONE BUELL!
Anyway, before I digress further, I'll save this for another thread.
BBird, again, THX for the ride org. :)

2rideordie, this public airing of rather personal events - someone else's personal events - is inappropriate.

Wow. No kidding. That is WAY weird and immature. Can't some moderator delete that entry? What the hell is up with that? This isn't highschool.

Your Right. It is immature but how would I have been treated if I did go and everyone treated me bad since I knew her ex. I sent this message to the wrong person and they asked me if there was a forum on this subject. Whatever happened two years ago happened two years ago it should stay there. To bring up someone from the past was her question. Next time I am to ride on the ride I will not say who I am for the fact that I will be treated in a manor that will not be tolerated. We're her to ride and we should be able to ride without anyone pointing fingers on who we knew in the past. Delete this stuff so noone has to read the crap that really goes on here? Sure!

This isn't a cult. People don't tell us who to like and not like (wow, am I in junior high all of sudden?) I have no idea who you are, but if you show up on a bike, ride responsibly and respectfully, then you're good. End of story.
You've have brought yourself into focus via your initial post (now removed) and this most recent post to which I am replying. If anything, it appears that your assertion that someone needs to "get past something" is a bit of the pot calling the kettle black.
My experience with this outstanding group of people associated with this forum has been excellent. Perhaps removing the last of your posts on the topic of somebody else's relationship would keep you in good standing...

I thought I recognized you. Tom introduced my wife and I to you at the wings place. Sorry about not saying hi.
