Meet Time: 10 ish
Meet Place: Angeles Shooting Ranges

12651 Little Tujunga Canyon
Lake View Terrace, CA 91342

It looks like it's $14, but tehre is cupon you can print that will save you $2.

It might feel expensive, but it safer than open range, and also think the $$ you'll save on gas, since most of open ranges are 20-30 miles from civilization.

Lets meet up for good redneck fun and shoot some targets. I think any location in the valley would do. something outdoor is preferable.

Outdoor ranges in the valley? I had no idea there were any!

Firing Line is agreat chain of ranges - in Northridge, and Burbank.

Unlike other ranges, if you get a membership, you get free lane fees and unlimited weapon rental for you and a guest (sharing the lane and weapon.) You pay only for ammunition... and they have bulk pre-pay cards for ammo as well that will give you a good deal. (Other ranges will usually charge reduced lane fees for a guest, and often charge rental fees per handgun.)

Thier selection of handguns is really good, and I believe they have some shotguns at every location. With a membership, you can swap your rental whenever you want during a given session. It was not uncommon for my friend and I to try three or four different handguns and callibers within a session paying only about 70 dollars total for roughly 300+ rounds of ammunition.

They sell man-shaped targets, deer-shaped targets, and marksman targets and last I was there, they sold stuffed animals and let your bring your own to shoot at. It is great fun shooting the polyester stuffing out of little pink animals... especially with a .357 magnum.

Considering the benefits, I figured out it would take like, six visits with a friend before you earned back your price of membership for the year in savings for lane and firearm rental alone. And the service there is mature, knowledgable, and friendly (and exercise great discression in allowing questionable people to enter the lanes.) I always felt safe... except for when my friend Steve was firing, who probably couldn't hit the broadside of a barn even if he were standing inside of it.

The only downside is that for safety reasons, they do not allow rapid fire on the range.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can afford the money to hit the range by the 22. Have fun though!

Renting guns, that's funny. As to rapid fire, no range I have ever been to allows rapid fire. Only been able to do that on private property.

Out of curiosity, how much is the membership? I would not go, just wondering.

Fri 7/14/06, 9:27AM
Actually I have the membership at Firing-Lane ($125.00, but i think it's lil higher now.. I've been member for 5 years) , but at outside rang you can socialize more and don't have to wear these earphones.
Thudds mentioned of a place by I-5, can't remember the name, but been there twice, really swell place.

The only outdoor range that I know of now is the San Gabriel Valley Gun Club..............

I remember the old Long Beach pistol Range on Carson St. is that place still open?

I have a couple hand guns I would be willing to bring if some one helps me feed them. If we go to an out door I will bring a long gun or two also. Would be a good oportunity for some one who's never fired a firearm to get some well supervised and SAFE experience. Keep us posted on the location.:D

Holy crap, yeah, Cody has an arsenal of weapons. I'll go if Cody goes. I want to fire his bazooka. Er, and that's not a sexual reference.

Ummm I prefer to call it a collection, it depends on where we go as to what I can bring.

Fri 7/14/06, 10:51AM
All ranges in SoCal that I have been to allow controlled "rapid" fire. Its one category of competetive pistol shooting.

Full automaic fire (which is different), is not legal in California by civilians anytime, anywhere. In states where it is legal, it requires a Class III Federal Firearms License (FFL).

As for not wearing hearing protection - most publicly accessible outdoor ranges require it while the firing line is "hot". If you want to "socialize" while shooting, I suggest you get yourself some active-noise-cancelling muffs like Peltor Tacticals.

Stuffed-animal killing - NOW that sounds like fun ! You should see what .45 ACP or .44 mag semi-wadcutter does to a stuffed animal.

That's the one I'm talking about. Lets go there. One warning though. I've been handling guns since i was 15 (Volunteered at war in my native Armenia) and haven't had an "accident" yet, and I'm not planning to. I treat firearms with great respect and cautiousness. Any hot head that plans to come to have "fun times with weapons" is not welcome, No alcohol nor "loco weed" allowed (for that we can go somewhere else later).
Don't mean to sound harsh, but It's for everybody's safety.

Don't mess with me.. I'm a bounty hunter - the baddest mob of all!

this sounds fun. Lemme know if you find an outdoor range we can meet at. I'd be willing to drive. I want to work with my .45 a little more. Also, if theres a stnd I can lock the gun to for sight adjustments, that's be nice. It seems to fire high. Or course, it's rather lite for a .45, but I need to get it sighted for me, none-the-less.

Just back from a trip home, where I got to shoot the AR-15, and now I'm all nastalgic.

Fri 7/14/06, 12:15PM
AR's are fun :D
The range I'm a member at (ASC) does not allow you to rapid fire, but they do allow you to draw from a holster.

The range up in Oceanside (Iron Sights) does allow rapid fire, but does not allow you draw from a holster

Last time I was up at Iron Sights, I went through about 500 rnds of .223 with my AR :D :D

And rifles. I'm not sure if we need to pay various fees or it's one fee, but we could find out. I can do either but really preferred the handgun range, it seems there are more people wit handguns than rifles.

BTW> I'll strongly object to anyone who will Shoot -draw from holster... unless you are law enforcement.

I agree, that cowboy shyte is trouble if you're not reeelly careful.
I'm good with the HG range, I've got a 9mm rifle that is normaly permited on the HG range so I'll bring it. Its gobs of fun to fire but eats ammo like theres no tomorrow 30 round mags=$$$$$$, it tends to draw a lot of attention from the range masters but it is totaly leagal (in CA) as well as the mags. Its also very unintimidating to novices. I plan to bring my wife for her first time so no shenanagans please we'll have a blast though! (pun intended:D ) I can bring eye protection and ear plugs for anyone who needs them also.

are there any backwoods ranges round here that we could go to? bring some soda cans and some jugs of water to fill them with, them watch me miss!! over and over!!

backlash- you clearly have more money than me. I've not gone through that kinda ammo since I was a ground pounder!! But I wish I could! Although, truth be told, I prefer to take my time. So that kinda ammo would take me all day.

The Angles range has nice benches and steel targets for both pistol and rifle. They also have clays for shotgun. They don't how ever rent guns so we will have to bring our own.

Will there are no open shooting areas in LA county anymore. However if you feel like driving to Frasier Park there is a range there.

Gambit I draw from a holster only when threatened!

I like to go to a spot off Hwy-18 on the Lucerne Valley side of Big Bear. It's right across the highway from the Mitsubishi Cement Plant. Not a real range, just a backwoods spot to go shooting. It's a little far for most of you, but maybe a ride through Big Bear could be included to make it worth your while.

Are noobs welcome?

I'm assuming eye and ear protection are required. Are there rentals for this at this place?

BTW, Little T is a shortish (11 mi), sweet road to ride...

Noobs are welcome. They do rent handguns (I think, you might want to-confirm that) All noobs need to hear me for a minute or so on basic safety and what-to-do. The place will provide eye and ear protection. and I'm sure they'll have ammo as well.

You will love it, unless you shoot 3 1/2" shells out of a Benelli Nova. Now that's pain.

Just gave them a call.

No firearm rentals.

Ammo sales.

They do sell eye protection for $5. Spongie type earplugs that you can get at the drug store are $1. Over the ear muffs are more.

Heh heh...

FACTS TO PONDER:

(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000

(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are
120,000

(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Now think about this:

Guns:

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.

(Yes, that's 80 million..)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age
groups, is
1,500.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

(C) The number of acc idental deaths per gun owner is

.000188

Statistics courtesy of the FBI

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So, statistically, doctors are approximately

9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN,

BUT

ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must
ban doctors
before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

I was there but I don't know what you guys look like:confused: so we didn't meet anyone:o My wife and I where at the blue benches. I was the guy with the 9mm riffle incase anyone stopped to look. It was good fun though, next time I'll bring some bigger riffles;)

probably better that you weren't with us, as we were in trouble every few minutes!! It was fun, nonetheless. Next time, we should plan a meet point and time. I brought out a P90 .45ACP, and a Steven-Savage .22 long rifle, that never made it outta the case. Gambit can list the fire sticks he brought. Savage, Myself, and occasionally Gambit, and Matt blew 150+ rounds through the .45 whilst Julia made my .45 shot groups look like the work of a one armed blind guy with two of Gambit's .22 pistols. I fell in love with a .40 S&W, and with the help of Gambit's foux rounds, I brought my groups down to sizes that implied I had fired the .45 I own at least once before. Meanwhile, Savage, who purportedly had never fired a gun in his life was easily matching Julia's groups with my .45, proving that it was "not" in fact off center. I'm now fairly certain Savage is actually an assasin, and was quietly laughing at me all day..... My only consolation was that Savage had to cram himself in the back "seat" of the Jaguar XK, and that aint cool... I'd better get out and get some practice before people see me(an old soldier) doing shooting that badly again.

I had great time, Haven't shot for last 6-7 months and it took me about 50 rounds to get the feel.
Had a glock 32 with 22LR conversion. ( Matt is the first person with the same gun)
Bersa -walther frame 22 lR (with that gun Lisa showed smokescreen who's wearing pants in their family)
Ruger P90 9MM
Beretta 92 9MM
and my personal favorite (so smokescreen's) H&K expert 40 S&M.

we went trough 450 rounds for my guns alone.
Great time, weather too hot, but not too bad, the staff were pricks though, next time,w e either hitting Fraiser park or some other range.

Savage
Sat 7/22/06, 7:01PM
The only thing making the back seat in the jaguar worth it was having you crammed back there on the way home.

cheers to almost getting kicked off the gun range.

I've now officially decided Remy is a badass after hearing some of his stories.
