Punkbrad: A Noun of unknown origin (http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=10966#10966) (Posted by Punkbrad on 10/22)

Lets see here, we could easily get to the root of my Screen Name with a simple trip in the Wayback Machine, so if you would be so kind Mr. Peabody, set the machine to 1596.

The first use of the word being so archaic, is to define in modern terms a prostitute. Since I, in fact, have and would again gain profit for sexual exchanges, there insofar is derived the first portion of my compound worded internet moniker. Here is a reference to Mr. Daniel Websters acclaimed dictionary to define:

Main Entry: 1punk
Pronunciation: 'p&[ng]k
Function: noun
Etymology: origin unknown
Date:
1 archaic : PROSTITUTE

Having cleared that up, lets progress to the second portion of the word. The "brad" portion, as some of you may know is defined as a nail or spike. Defined again by Webster as such:

Main Entry: 1brad
Pronunciation: 'brad
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old Norse broddr spike; perhaps akin to Old English byrst bristle -- more at BRISTLE
Date: 13th century
1 : a spike or nail with a barrel-shaped head

I believe this speaks for itself. Its clearly a reference to my penis, which I would freely "punk" upon given chance.

So there you have it, Punkbrad is just another term for a man-whore. Its all really quite simple. I still don't know why people call me Bradley. My birthgiven name is Xavier. I guess its easier to pronounce. Anyway, have a nice day.

Xavier.

How many "non-SV" riding members? (http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=11047#post11047) (Posted by Kurt'sSV on 10/23)

Well pretty much everyone is on my "shit list" already, with you being at the top.

Gregg's on there for F'ing up his first undertail.
Paul's on there for mumbling too much when he talks.
PunkBrad is on there for being PunkBrad.
Ward's on there for not taking off his god damn grab bar when I told him to.
Ersigh's on there 'cause she moved up to San Fran.
Aaron's on there 'cause he crashes all the damn time.
Rod's on there 'cause he won't ride anywhere else besides Ortega ("because everything else is too far" Well boo-fucking-hoo).
Crashgirl's on there 'cause she won't ride anywhere besides her boyfriends house ("My M1's have a big worn stirp down the middle" Well no shit, sally, that's cause you just ride down the highway to Jeff's place)
DanMan's on there 'cause he didn't have insurance until after he hit a car (duh!).

And lets see, who else is on there . . .

Oh, Britt is even though we've never met 'cause she has tireflys on her wheels.
WildBill's on there for having an avatar he pulled off an Atari 2600 game.
Damon is 'cause he can't stop getting tickets (that guy has great stories, but everyone is about him being chased by the cops. Fuck it man, slow down)
And everyone who came down from LA for the Gathering and turned into the wrong gas station even though I gave specific directions to the Chevron station which was accross the street from the Shell you all pulled into (oh my god you guys stopped traffic on Ortega because you weren't sure where to go. I couldn't believe one of you didn't see the pack of SV's at the Chevron and think, hey maybe we should pull in there instead of this other gas station which has no bikes parked at it)

So down't worry about avoiding my shit list, it's too late for that.

Servers do suck, when dealing with the server, or any computer issue, what i try to remember is if a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port, and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort, and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort, then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!

And if your cusor finds a menu item followed by a dash, and the double-clicking icons put your window in the trash, and you data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash, then your situation's hopeless, and your system's gonna crash! And when the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk, and the microcode instructions cause unecessary RISC, then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM, quickly turn off your computer and be sure to tell your mom!

Just remember that, you'll come out okay...

if you F up your tank (http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1212) (Posted by ward on 11/2)
Hey all,
as some of you know my tank recently became cosmetically altered due to an argument with my handle bars. The handlebars won the argument.
but after some research and talking with body shops this is what I've found
1. no one will pull a dent from a tank, some pansy excuse about exploding or something
2. no one seems to be able to easily match the paint on the bughumparific yellow, but I have seen the color rite site to get the code.
3. paint is friggin expensive
4. the chick that works at brea auto body has a pretty hot body herself
5. pretty much if your tank gets F'ed up it's gonna cost as much to fix it as it is to repair it.
6. the cheapest place I found for a new tank is ronayers.com, new tank will be $398 and no sales tax since they're out of state, the bastards at hahm motorsports quoted me 540 for the same stupid part.
7. People on ebay don't seem to want tanks with dents in em,
anyone know a good use for a dented tank??
8. I should stop making this list

just wanted to report my findings, maybe save someone else the time of running around all day

peace

Boy, I tell ya. Pappy could shore whittle up a storm. 'Fore you could say "billet aluminum" he'd turn out a fork brace or a pair of rearset brackets. I can still see him in his rockin' chair, his old knife just a blur in his hands, with Chester the pussycat pawin' at the metal shavins when they hit the floor.

Folks used to come from three counties to see the scrimshaw work on Pappy's old GSXR 750. Nowadays people would call it "folk art," but Pappy just called it passin' time.

I LOVE my SV so much it hurts, dammit. (http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=14753#post14753) (Posted by nandooch on 12/9)

Life is now measured in gaps between times I get to ride.
I have now sworn off all people, especially humans.
I am neglecting my friends while I surf online for parts which I'll never even use, much less be able to afford, for my SV.
I get misty eyed when I read posts about people riding on weekends, and especially those chance meetings of SV's out there like 2 passing ships in the night.
When I'm in bed, I dream of curling up alongside my warm, vibrating Twin on a chilly winter morning.
I'm looking for a new, bigger apartment where the SV can have a room of her own.
Somebody please....
anybody....
help me....

Masturbating bird (http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=23667#post23667) (Posted by Setter32 on 2/25)

.....so I opened the door to go into their room this morning..........and I saw the bird house.....and the pole it's sitting on.....rocking back and forth.........violently.....

....so I move my eyes up to the roof of the bird house.........and I see one of my cockatiels.....humping the towel on the roof....

....then I thought about it..........

....that bird is hardcore.........

......a bird weighing approximately "1 lb".....if even that much.........is masturbating with such intensity........that he's rockin the bird house and the pole...which weighs atleast 60 lbs........

.....his crest was folded back........head forward........looking streamline...........his claws were sunk deep into the towel.....and probably penetrated the roof underneath...........rubbing his genitalia vigorously against the towel......

....I stood there chuckling............and in awe.....

....but he doensn't care.............he had a focus look on his face............periodically expelling little grunts....and squawks.....

....so I started dancing in front of him.......to see if I can distract him......and ruin his task at hand............but to no avail.........cause that bird was on a mission...........the bird house rocked on without missing a beat........

.....when he was done.......this relax look came over his face.......and he noticed me once again........

....sorta like coming out of a trance.....

....amazing.....

.....

.....wonder where he learned such behavior?........

So I told my buddy that I was going for the Held Akira Glove and here is his very funny reply:

"Never heard of them. No bragging rights on "no name" kit. At least with the Teknic gloves, you know that they are made in some sweat shop in Asia. At least $.05 of the $59 will be going to help the 12 year old that had to work 18 hours straight to hand sew the gloves.

I think Held is a German company, financed by Russians, who use the French labor to produce their products. Leave it to the Germans to use kangaroos for gloves... why can't they use something that is already killed for food, like cows, lambs or goats! With the Russian connection, I am surprised they did not throw in a free pair of night vision goggles and a stinger missile for that price. And the French, as long as they can sell some kind of service (glove fabrication, chemical and biological warfare recipes, doesn't much matter) they are happy as snails in butter and garlic....

By the way, did you know that owning anything made of Kangaroo leather is illegal in California. Probably why they had to be special ordered..... had to get Rolf to smuggle them across the international border and have Mustaf Arod Yupyuerpooper deliver them to Rocket Motorcycle on his way to his Al Quada meeting....

Nevertheless, I am sure they are a very good pair of gloves. You may want to get some special lotion in case you get a skin rash right around the area where your American made Vansons Cow leather jacket interact with the German designed, Russian financed and French made Kangaroo Leather gloves...."

I was on a Vespa in 7th grade. No windshield. No Helmet. No Sunglasses. A budding desperado looking for crime.

In Alaska they have an insect called a Dragon Fly that REALLY AND TRULY is the size of a hummingbird. One hit me in the forehead when I was doing about 50.

I thought someone hit me with a baseball thrown from the side of the road. It hurts so bad that I literally saw blue stars. I pulled off the road wobbling like crazy.

Now I ALWAYS wear a face shield ever since. To bed. Parties. Work. Everywhere.

I never take the thing off.

In my will it specifically states that I am to be BURIED with it. That and something secret...

You'd think they'd just turn the numbers 5 mph to the right to correct this. Must be some kind of conspiracy.

TRADE: my exotic GF for your reliable YZF-R6
Date: 2003-06-27, 12:09PM

I have a slightly used girlfriend, 1982 model, white with black top, 5’6”, 110 lbs with 36C cups and excellent tail. Features one of a kind exterior, wild styling, and razor sharp handling. Quite a looker, turns a lot of heads when parked somewhere. She sometimes runs a little rough but is extremely fun and performs quite well once you get her going. Has good after-marked add-ons (tattoos, piercings, college degree) and comes with lots of accessories and some hard luggage. Can be cranky and a bit of trouble to start, especially on cold mornings. I don’t advise using the choke. Seems to idle okay most of the time, and fuel consumption is good, though response is best with premium beer. Sometimes she’s a little fussy, stops cooperating without any explanation, and wants to be in control most of the time. However, most of my friend’s wives are like that, so it seems like people don’t mind this sort of thing. I've invested a lot in her, and in some ways I'd hate to part with her. However, I realized I’m not looking for a project that requires this much attention, and the long term cost of maintenance on an exotic model like this is just killing me. Will trade for any year YZF-R6. Prefer a straight bike with no issues, minimal modifications. Ex-race bike is okay if it comes with clean papers and is ready for normal street duty. I can fix minor mechanical problems, and cosmetic damage is fine. However, I’m tired of trying to work miracles just to have a dependable source of fun.

Serious offers only – no test drives.

All of Southern California's SVers should buy the green jackets and start a mass migration up to Anderson's Pea Soup for a huge group ride every year...

Or wear yellow jackets, and all of us go go to West LA looking for understanding in a nice quite leather bar or something...

There may be a down side to being so bright. Today, every dick-head in a racy mood and with a small penis has been VERY aggressive when I'm around.

Like a red flag to a bull.

Blood in front of a shark.

You get the picture...

But the assholes SEE me.

My job is to let them go by me and go chase someone else.

Ol Man Sutherlund is out again!! (http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=52371#post52371) (Posted by Rudeboy on 7/30)

Some old timer tried to hit me with his old busted buick yesterday. It was ol man sutherlund again by golly!!

I was taking a little secret shortcut on the way home and coincidentally his little private drive connects my subdivision to another to avoid a good 5-10 minutes of bumper to bumber to be used only in case of emergency of course.

Anyway we've gotten into it before and when I was coming through his drive I saw someone getting out of a car!!! I was like ohhhhhh shit here we go... gassed it a little, although it is a dirt road and I had to come up another 50 feet or so before I turn out into my sub.

It was his wife that was getting out so I thought I'd be alright. Little did I know the Ol Geezer was in the f'ing car too and when he saw me he was so pissed that he almost ran his wife over trying to get me with his buick!!!!

I saw him start down towards me right as I was turning out so when I did, I gassed it and ripped down the street.. and then I checked my mirrors...... and the bastard was right there!!! so then I REALLY let it rip because I didn't want to get caught. And I did get away but I was going too fast.

I felt like a kid again - it was great. It was like kicking the ball into your d'head neighbors yard with the pristine grass that he waters 15 hours a day and trying to get it.

y'all be careful now !!!

Protection is king.
Curves are what it’s all about.
Getting the latest and greatest model may leave you broke, disillusioned and on your arse.
A ‘get-off’ is never a good thing.
Riding different types is the only way to know what you like best. Never make assumptions.
Maintenance.
A trick may get you some attention, but it’s nothing unless you have the skills to back it up.
Riding solo isn’t as much fun.

tar snakes are real snakes indigenous to the california region, predominantly in the southern desert region - ie crest, palomar, and now it seems they've migrated to mesa grande. contrary to popular beliefs, these snakes aren't poisonous but can be dangerous if there are many of them. they usually target bikers - mostly sport bikes rather than cruisers - although you hear from time to time of stories where these snakes would go for a cruiser. they're black and can vary in length.

... Last night I was out riding a brisk pace in the mountains. Quickly and smoothly carving corner after corner when the sun started to set. A bright crimson red glimmering through the redwood trees, bathing the entire scene in red, as if someone had put a colored filter on my faceshield. The trees, the brush, even the street itself, all took on a soft red glow. Never seen anything like it. I wish I had a camera. But then again, if I had a camera I would've had to stop, and there were plenty of corners left to go.

Yup, I love my sv. And I'm sooo glad I didn't get a more expensive bike.

Ride safe!

Harley-Davidson vs. the Woman (http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5131) (Posted by Kurt'sSV on 9/16)

An engineer, of the Harley Davidson Motorcycle Corporation, died and went to heaven. At the gates, St. Peter told him, "Since you've been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world; your reward is you can hang out with anyone you want in Heaven." The Engineer thought about it for a minute and then said, "I want to hang out with God." St. Peter took him to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God. The engineer then asked God, "Hey, aren't you the inventor of Woman?" God said, "Ah, yes. "Well," said the engineer, "professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention."
> 1. There's too much inconsistency in the front-end protrusion.
> 2. It chatters constantly at high speeds.
> 3. Most of the rear ends are too soft and wobble too much.
> 4. The intake is placed way to close to the exhaust.
> 5. And finally, the maintenance costs are outrageous."

"Hmmmm, you may have some good points there," replied God, "hold on." God went to his Celestial super computer, typed in a few words and waited for the results. The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read it. "Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed," God said to the engineer "but according to these numbers, more men are riding my invention than yours."

Grey Davis is the Ryan Leaf of politics.

He needs to take his signing bonus and move on. And California needs to find another quarterback sooner than the next draft.

Hate to drop the sports angle on ya, but we can't essentially give these guys a contract and say you're free to go. They have to be accountable-- right now, and the entire time they are employed by you and me.

This transcends bullshit party lines and moves. The people shouldnt be stuck because we(you) made a poor decision in the first place and not be able to change sooner than planned or hoped for.

I think this will force more people to vote in the future in all elections. Politicians will have to have more support than ever before. The system will work much better in the end, due to this type of action.

Squidboy: for choosing to pay the rent over racing (dude, you have a truck, can’t you sleep in it?)

You think about other bikes with no intention of ever selling the SV to obtain one.

You can envision a time in the future where you will have a milk crate strapped on your SV which has 120k miles and you will still be schooling squids on gixxers in the canyons.

You spend more time on this board than any other website....damn the news, current events, and anything else....I want to know the newest mod, damnit

They could sell sushi. Hard to think of paying more bucks for less calories and fewer grams of protein - yet there seems to be no end to folks willing to eat the stuff.

Hafta admit that when Jesse James put together that cafe concept bike that I saw at the International Show in Long Beach - I got my first woodie ever for a totally custom motorcycle. Would I have paid him $100Grand to build one for me??? - NO - but gotta admire the look of the thing.

We got a guy here at work who just plopped $40G into some sort of chopper/custom (looked like a bolt-together with a ton of custom paint) - he's scared shitless to ride the thing for fear of small scratches in the parking lot. Doesn' t make sense. If I wanna buy something just to look at, I'll go for a photograph or painting. Even an aquarium. Not a chopper/custom.

Pick a good place with lots of parking and get people to show up every week. Get the businesses in on it too so they encourage your patronage....if you're consistent people will probably just start showing up, then it will get out of control, the cops will show up, people will get beat down, riots will occur, property values will go down and the whole area will turn to crap. It will all be on your head and you'll end up having to leave town, forever relegated to a small hotel room under the witness protection program where riding anywhere is forbidden...and you'll have plenty of time to mull the consequences of your actions as you amble in your bare feet down to the corner Kwik-Mart in Billings, Montana, fishing around for change so you can purchase yet another pack of Camel lights, a 40 of anything and Cheetos.

When you get back and angle the hangar just right, you'll be able to take in the end of a NASCAR race as the naked overhead bulb flickers....reminscient of your tepid squalor.

Go ahead...ruin your life.

I prefer to wear something sexy that flatters my figure. A nice teddy with fuzzy pink slippers is always good for a run up GMR.

For the Mulholland Drive and the Rock Store, I like to get butch with a leather miniskirt and some heels.

When I ride in Malibu, I dress up like - you guessed it! - Malibu Barbie.

For a day on the Streets of Willow Springs, I wear my favorite umbrella girls outfit.

And when I attend one of the many bike nights here in the LA area, I like to go as myself and wear nothing but a smile.

I love being a biker guy. No other sport offers such diverse individuality and opportunity for self-expression.

Re: The Wave, Some do & some do not (http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=101046#post101046) (Posted by Freedom on 3/5)

I wave (often just a finger-lift with my throttle hand) at pretty much all two-wheelers, unless doing so would cause me to experience unwanted intimacy with the road surface. I may one day re-evaluate this propensity in the context of the nouveau Harley types' tendency toward misguided and unfounded airs of superiority, but for now I'm an equal opportunity waver. I also wave at some cars, trucks, etc (considering adopting a different default hand signal for Hummers), and little kids riding backseat across the vastness of places like west Texas tend to get excited when a motorsicklist gives them a wave (as he or she screams past the dozing parent driver, providing a valuable service by waking them the heck up).

I once waved heartily at a group of three riders who were pulled off the road, as I zoomed by. Upon closer inspection I determined that one of them was a policeman, giving the other two tickets, but I escaped the scene without incident because the peace officer had his hands full. Still, when I'm near or at the speed limit I'll often wave to motorcycle policepersons, as sort of a combination of "I appreciate you doing your job," "solidarity to bikers, dude, and long live the glorious struggle," and "you can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man."

Re: Motorcycle Roads Rated (http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=104458#post104458) (Posted by cyclox on 3/18)

no no no. everything must have an objective rating!

We can get accurate GPS data on every road. Then calculate a measure of three dimensional tortuosity. This will reflect the overall elevation gain and the twistiness of the road.

We will also measure the curvature and inclination of each turn to get a rating of the amount of decreasing radius turns per mile as well as the amount of off-camber pavement.

Factor in average atmospheric conditions, deer population, pollen count (for those with allergies), amount of oil left on the road and proximity to medical facilities and we should be done.

or we could just ride, like that old curmudgeon kurt sez.

...
I know all of you think about how expensive it is to do track days, and racing must be an astronomical cost, but I'm telling you it's not. I don't know if you guys think I've got some high paying job or something, but honestly I make dick. Because I want it bad enough, I make ends meet anyway because it is so worth it. A lot of you would have to sacrifice even less than I do to afford racing.

I have chosen the racing route over simply doing track days every month because racing gives me a sense of accomplishment. Track days are fun, but when the day is over, it doesn't matter how well you rode and it doesn't matter if you improved throughout the day or from the last time you were on the track, except maybe to yourself. But people with competitive attitudes need more than that. People with competitive attitudes are the ones who ride hard in the canyons and are a threat to themselves and others on the roads. So if you are a competitive person and like to ride like that, there's no greater reward than racing.
...
But most importantly, and the reason I have started typing this long-ass post, is because of safety. There's no place safer than the track. Yeah we're doing very high speeds out there, but there are very few fatalities for the number of miles raced on any track. You all know the safety advantages of a track, but I'll spell it out anyway:
...
These are the facts about racing. If you like riding hard on the street you should check this out so you can give that up. It's more fun and more rewarding. You'll also meet a lot of great people in the racing community. Plus . . . . . chicks dig it. :D

I just talked to the surgeon. We were all starting to wonder why we hadn't heard anything and in walks the surgeon.

They had planned 3 bypasses, but he got 5. Vitals are perfect. No special drugs to start him back up. He's safe and sound in ICU. We should be able to see him in about half hour. They are going to ween him off the ventilator as he wakes up.

I'm so relieved right now. All that lies ahead is recovery and the doctor is sure it will be trouble free.

Dad v2.0 also comes prewired for a pacemaker in case one is needed in the future. In ICU and recovering fine.

Thank you guys so much.

Memorial Day, What it means... (http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8982) (Posted by pcperks on 5/29)

Monday we celebrate Memorial Day, which for the large portion of the country means that they have an extra day off to go to the beach, the lake, the pool, or just have a backyard BBQ. They will enjoy it, spending time with family and friends, drinking beer and having a good time. And there are quite a few of us who will hit the twisties for a great ride.

In all of that, there will only be a small handful of people who take what they are doing and look at the true meaning of Memorial Day. It's a day to remember those peope who have put their lives on the line for the freedoms everyone else can enjoy. They are the ones that are visited in thousands of cemeteries around the country by family who remember with grim reality that the person they love has given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Be it a grandparent that died in World War II to a son or daughter that gave their life in Afghanistan or Iraq, the meaning is precisely the same. Regardless of your belief in the conflict that these people died in, they died fighting for their country, and they deserve your respect and your rememberance.

I am active duty military and I serve proudly. I don't ask for your thoughts or your prayers. I ask for your thoughts and prayers to those that are deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq and elsewhere around the world. For their families, and for the families of those who have lost their loved ones while serving this country. They are always in my thoughts and prayers daily, and all I ask is that you put them in yours for at least one day out of the year. Take a break on your ride, or when you finish your BBQ, and say a quick prayer, or for those not religiously inclined, say a quiet "Thank You" for what those people have done.

Cars will not be allowed to drive on back roads on Sundays and every county will have at least one race track designed specifically for bikes. To be a voting citizen you must own a motorcycle and to run for public office you must have a racing license as well. Yes everyone, it is that time of year
A time when we honor, the machines we hold dear
But "The Gathering" is for everyone, it is not about me
It is because you people, just love your SV!

Yes they come Naked, and some fully dressed
Mods of all sorts, lets see who's impressed
From right down the street, or from far away
Lets all get together and have a great day!

Think of all the people, you may want to see
Like Mojo Mofo and the man that goes by just plain G_E
Kurt will be there, oh wow we can't wait
And a Showered up Evil, now that will be great!

GMAN will be there, with his camera in hand
But we can't play loud music, cancel the band
Juicifer with new name, and Sandie's CB fame
Monte won't be riding, but thats all the same!

Setter the confused, with all of his dots
Even Chic will be there...so who called the cops
SheRides'em will show, some hope in a Wet T
Just so someone named Sui, can start some controversy!

You know Burst is in the House, On his GSZXV
Who the hells knows what parts next we will see
There is a Kat coming, from all the way East
And Knightshade will be there, with his 3 banging Beast!

BioTek with his accent, Nuke's excessive information
Lets not forget Pete's Broke-Ass Situation
Dominator's obsession, thinking someone is gay
And maybe that guy, that says he is a Stunta All Day!

To those in attendance, who's names you do not see
I'm sure you'll be there at The Gathering 3...

If in the distance there is something bad that you heard
KevBigTwin is there...and F**KERS® the word!

So the Gathering III, has come and gone
All I can hear is the “It’s Closing Time” song.
Burst got lots of prizes, yes the tickets were mixed
But it wasn’t what it looked like, it really wasn’t fixed.

Evil’s bike lost, for heaven’s sake
Give it to the guy, his headlight was held on, with yellow duck-tape
Mojo took home, a nice new lid
He’ll explain the scratches soon, when he tells how he slid!

Tie-Pilot showed up, with his fancy head rig
But the food went so fast, we all looked like pigs
There was no music, so no one could dance
But Kat ran around, in her all leather pants

The lot was packed full, with bikes of all kinds
The Brutale and R7, now those are rare finds
MrPython showed up, so late it was funny
Did anyone see, what Linp did with the money?

We met all the new, and saw the same old faces
Thanks to those who came, from far away places
So many great people, a really great group
But it ended real early, we all flew the coup

I thought it was great, everyone asked about me
Too bad it was because, I ran into CHP
So now we move on, and wonder what is in store
When the shit hits the fan…at THE GATHERING IV

Stevan's July Race Report (http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=141523#post141523) (Posted by huevos on 8/1/04)

I was out here to tap into something that only racing a motorcycle could offer. To delve into the whole topic would require more than just a few paragraphs so i won't do it now.

Suffice to say, racing only adds to my life and my view of who and what I am...in a huge way.

Inner strength, courage, determination, skill, judgement, insight, discipline, planning, commitment, decisiveness, confidence,...and even...restraint. These are only some of the qualities that racing allows me to bring out and explore every time I'm out on the track.

The other day a good friend of mine (who also races) and I were contemplating the fortunate position we found ourselves in, every third Sunday of the month, when we were able to put so many apsects of who we were into working motion, in a totally visceral enviroment. As primitive as it sounds it is the stuff of life. An affirmation of sorts.

To ride a motorcycle is an experience that you cannot read or write about. You have to live it. Secondly, motorcycling has change who i am: from within, organic growth to a degree i would never think feasible, leaving me with a disport EVERY time i turn the key. It's changed my friend base, and my outlook on life.

For a long time i lived my life with fear -- fear of rejection, fear of dying, fear in general. Taking my life into my hands everyday from cars inches from ending me puts things in perspective & leaves no room for fear.

Like that dude Gandhi said: "Study as if you'll live forever, but live like you'll die tomorrow."

(Perhaps the fact that I had not planned on being the most experienced rider present, influenced my behavior, if so, I guess I really fuckin blew it.)
Honestly, yes that's what you should have said. I have a friend who just got his first bike. I am trying my best to keep him from going down in these first few months. If he wanted to meet on my group ride I would flat out tell him no, he doesn't have enough experience to go on a group ride. Not mine at least, cause I don't want to see it when he eats shit.

I have taken him out to Julian though once, just us two, and I led him so I could control his speed. Don't worry about steppin on these guys ego's man. You have to take control because they do not know the dangers. I talk to guys who want to get r1's for their first bike..."Yea I know, but I will be careful". Doesn't matter. Careful does not matter, you will make mistakes. Everyone does, I still do, a new person makes them constantly. Some of them you can get away with, but some not so, throw in a bike with 150 hp and you are not going to get away with mistakes.

If you have a problem saying that then leave it on me, or any of us regulars. I will tell them they cannot ride on this ride. Not brand new, not without gear. Do the msf, get a jacket and gloves at the least! Sorry man but you gotta be hard on those guys or they will not be around to ride with down the road.

Smooth is EVERYTHING. To go fast you must first go slow -- meaning you must first learn proper lines and learn how to be smooth. When people tell you that it looks like you're not even trying, and you make it look so easy, then you are smooth! Roadracing and even street riding is an art, a fine art.

Power abusing cop thread (http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=192523#post192523) (Originally posted by 920m)

It's because my job is so difficult...

In California we average one cop for every 2000 people. About 60% of those cops are on patrol, where we do most of the harassing. One-fifth of that 60% are on duty at any moment and available for harassing people. So, one cop is responsible for harassing about 10,000 residents. When you toss in the commercial, business, and tourist locations that attract people from other areas, sometimes you have a situation where a single cop is responsible for harassing 20,000 or more people a day. A ten-hour shift runs 36,000 seconds. This gives a cop one second to harass a person, and three-fourths of a second to eat a donut AND then find a new person to harass. This is not an easy task. Most cops are not up to it day in and day out. It is just too tiring. What we do is utilize some tools to help us narrow down those, which we harass. They are as follows:

Lane Splitting Etiquette (http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=205476#post205476) (Originally posted by Sinaz)
The other day, I was riding up PCH, and I keep forgetting about that enormous bulge in the road near Pepperdine. So I suddnely see it ahead of me, and I swerve to the right to miss it coming dangerously close to an Escalade taking up all 100% of its lane.

I know I'm at fault here, and it was a snap decision to avoid hitting this parking block looking thing at a good clip.

So anyway, the Escalade swerves gently and slowly, almost casually into the shoulder as if to say "I wasn't really afraid of your puny bike, but I wanted to ceremoniously let you know that I was a bit miffed."

Then the one woman in there (hopefully she was driving alone because she was about to pick up 32 soccer kids to take home) gives me the look of death.

So I lower my head a little in embarrassment and start frantacly trying to explain what happened in Motorcycle Sign-Language.

I'm gesturing my hand in "bless me father for I have sinned" manner to say I'm sorry, then pointing at the road, and motioning my hand as if stroking the contour of a bump, then kind of doing a fishy movement to indicate I swerved to avoid it.

Well, I think there was some miscommunication... because she looked mighty offended... as though I had just told her I wanted to rub her ass and spank it or something. So I just made a final gesture with my finger (my INDEX finger) as if to say "Aha!! I know how to fix this!" Then kicked the bike down a gear and sped away as fast as I could putting the whole debacle as faaaarrr behind me as I could.

whew.

It ain't easy cohabitating with the cagers.

Actually I was wondering why it was in the website title & the Suzuki meaning.
It's in the website title so people have a clue that this site is geared around the folks who have an interest in the SV. As far as the Suzuki meaning, Sport V-twin (engine).

It's actually a Typo. It was supposed to read Vs. The website was orriginally created to portray the daily trials and tribulations of the Southern Californian Motorcyclist. SoCal Vs. Riders! Now on payperview! Only $39.95 for the main event:"Bad Weather and a lack of Roads." It never caught on due to the typo and instead a mini collective formed in support of this Particular motorcyle: the humble Suzuki Sv650(also available in 1000cc).

MotoGP - How was it? (http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=213261#post213261) (Originally posted by Moremyk - 7/11/05)

Getting in was stupid. I was only there for the Sunday race and spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to get in. I made the mistake of trying the transit bus that they recommended when they sent the tickets. God damn traffic about ruined the entire weekend for me.

The bikes were loud and that almost made up for the jam in/out. That was freaking awsome.

Wife was really impressed and now loves my motorcycle and the fact that I ride. I am working for some sex by association. I think I might come through with that. Wish me luck.

In the spirit of this thread, I made a comment to one of the gentler sex who was waiting at a red light (came up next to her in my truck as I was turning right). She had jeans, jacket, boots, helmet - but no gloves. So I said, "really ought to wear the gloves". I smiled as she apparently mulled over my sage advise, but the smile was wiped quickly away as I was stung by her retort - "F... you, CAGER!
