Socket/Wrench sizes for oil change:
14mm socket/wrench
17mm socket/wrench if using a K&N oil filter
Oil filter strap if using an OEM type oil filter

1. With 14mm socket/wrench unscrew oil drain bolt from the underside of the engine. (In picture it’s the big, blurry bolt)

This is one of the most likely bolts on the whole bike to have a worn out head, because it gets torqued hard and often. If the bolt head is messed up from previous work, use a box end wrench or a hex socket to get the most purchase on it. If neither of those work, use a very tight vise-grips and order a new bolt for next time. - Darth Lefty

2. If using a K&N oil filter, use 17mm socket to unscrew old oil filter.

If using an OEM type oil filter, use strap to unscrew filter.

Oil will stop draining out from where the oil filter was first, but will continue to drain from drain plug.

4. Lube the o-ring on new oil filter so keep it from binding/bunching-up when it is screwed back on. The simplest way to do this is to dab your finger in some of the old oil that has come out and wipe it on the o-ring.

4a. make sure the old oil filter o-ring isn't stuck on the bike. - Stingray

5. Screw oil filter back on to hand tight, then turn it another ¼ turn clockwise with 17mm socket or strap.

6. Take off old crush washer from oil drain plug and put on new crush washer.

7. Screw in oil drain plug and torque 15lb-ft (foot pounds). Torquing drain plug tighter is okay.

8. Unscrew cap from oil galley on right side of motorcycle and add in 2300ml of new oil.

- Specifically on 2nd Gens with a oil filter change, it's 2700ml. -Slowpoke

9. Screw cap back on to oil galley.

When bike is upright, you will see oil behind the view port window and it should be near the full line. When bike is on kick stand, no oil will appear behind view port.

- Racers: Per Zoran, when bike is on rear stand, oil should be showing all the way to the top of the view port window.

- It is a good idea to now run the bike for a minute, then let it sit and recheck the oil level. Often times you may need to add a little more oil. - pAint

10. Ride bike.

Don't forget to depose of the oil correctly. Most AutoZone's take the oil for free... so don't dump! - pAint
