For those of us without a front stand...
I've used a car jack under the header (with a block of wood in between). This makes things easier over having using a front stand because you can adjust the height.

Once you get to the point where the front axle is ready to come out, jack up until the front wheel is barely off the ground. Yanking the axle at this point leaves the tire on the ground so you don't have to worry about it falling. If you get the jack handle facing towards the front of the bike you can raise the front while holding onto the wheel. Go up until the tire clears the fender and roll the wheel out. -Ikazuchi

There are other options, too. If you have frame sliders you can rest them on long jack stands, or you can suspend the bike from a ceiling beam in your garage with a block and tackle or ratchet tie downs.

I once set the jack stands on edge in front of the sliders and rode the bike up onto them. It worked but it marred the plastic.

Any of these methods leave the triple tree unloaded so you can take the front end apart, which you could not do with a front stand of either type. If you're doing more than just swapping the tire after you take off the wheel, this helps. - Darth Lefty

Basically, anything that will duplicate this will do. :) -Tom

To duplicate that Pitbull you can position a ladder over the front end and loop tie-downs over the top of it and then just ratchet the bike up. -nefarious-az

Ghetto works too. :D -Tom
