What's the basic storyline? The commercials just give vague images of post-apocalyptic messianic exodus.

I've only heard the radio advertisements and it sounds stupid.

infertility has stricken the earth - the youngest person on earth is 18. the government's immigration policy is reminiscent of the holocaust - there is uprising and sects fighting for certain freedoms - its intense....

my description will barely scratch the surface.

^ I agree completely, from the first minute in you start to get tense and really feel this movie. Just before the end I realized I'd been that tense for so long. Great movie, everything is done very well.

It is a good movie, but not the "best of a decade" as some critics are billing it. My complaint is..... don't pay attention to the nose ring that Julian Moore has. It changes sides during the movie. I have no idea why I noticed it.

They might have flipped the image to make the scene work. Sounds like a good movie. And Julienne Moore...Yes. I will see it. She is nice.

Hmmmm,

Might have to give this one a chance. Like I said, the radio ads sound stupid, they say no-one has been born for 5 years, but you guys are saying 18, that's a big difference.

I'll stay tuned.

Saw this last night. It's pretty good. The setting of England is pretty Orwellian. Makes me glad I don't live there.

The us against them/self division we've labeled ourselves with is possibly the greatest obstacle human society has created for itself. When the chips are down, we're all just people, though most don't want to see it that way.

must see. look for subtle details pairing the "child" to christ. a.e., the mother claiming to be a virgin as a joke, etc...
"tomorrow" the human project ship like a Noah's ark.
Great movie!
also must see BABEL and Pan's Labyrinth. All tree directors are friends and they all collaborated on all tree movies.

Saw it last night.

I give it two thumbs up. As a filmmaker, I am often unable to stop watching the *craft* of a movie beacuse I am always studying new styles and techniques. This film is built with such adroit attention to detail on all levels (camera, acting, story, edit) that I was carried away. A riveting view of one possible future for mankind. My hands were clenched the whole time, and there were many scenes that I didn't blink once.

And the biblical metaphor isn't oversaturated, nor is ones understanding of those storys necessary to see into the depths of this movie.

Don't worry what it's about before you see it. Just see it.

I agree. Even the people being shot in the background were falling down in a believable way. I thought it was an amazing movie.

I just read this review on the movie, and if it in the least bit 'in track' with what the movie is about, I'll stay home. What do you guys think?

I just returned from seeing this movie. I made my decision to see it based upon B+ average reviews from both the critics and Yahoo members.

After viewing the movie, I'd have to say that:

1) This is NOT an action movie. There are only 2-3 brief scenes with action in them and the action is WEAK...If you're looking for an action movie, this is not your movie.

2) The script is probably in the top 3 worst movie scripts I've ever encountered...and I've seen alot of movies in my life. NO STORY LINE, NO PLOT, NO BACKGROUND....Just alot of pictures of refugees, decayed society, poverty, cruelty, etc. If you want to walk away from a movie feeling like you just wasted $8-9, this is your movie.

2) This was one of those, "It's got to get better any minute now...the trailers looked so good and it got such good reviews...it's got to get better any minute now..." The movie never gets any better. It just plods along with no apparent direction, no anticipation building for some kind of climax at the end...you almost start to guess that the ending is going to be lame...and guess what? You guessed correctly!

3) The acting was decent. The cinematography was on par with most average films. If that's all you're into, then you probably won't mind sitting through the movie. If you like a plot or a story line in the movies you see, I'd stay home or go see something else.

4) You never find out why there are no children. You never find out why one woman would somehow become pregnant when no one else in the world can. You never find out what the real point of the movie is regarding the infertility issue. All you're left with is a sense that the Director has a political agenda against immigration control.

5) The ONLY thing I took away from the movie is that someone was trying to hype up a complete piece of theatrical garbage to bring suckers like me to the theater to promote their political views on immigration. This was a movie focused on the issue of illegal immigration. They were trying to paint a horrific picture of immigration control and were trying to build sympathy for illegal immigrants based on a completely fictional and utterly unbelievable near-futuristic setting.

Save your money. I wouldn't even waste the time renting this movie.

Not even close. For one thing, the entire end of the movie is pretty much non-stop action. That said, I don't really think it's an action movie. But it does have some pretty intense scenes.

Don't base your opinion of a movie off an amateur critic's review who can't even count. Though what he says in his second #2 I was kind of thinking as well.

That is not "on track" at all.

just pony up the 9 bux and see it Jeff, you will like it... if for no other reason than there are lots of shooting and bombing of people. and there is a mini motorcycle chase scene in it!

I've got to say that I loved it. There are some great "one shot" scenes that make you feel like you're there.

The only Scot in it is schizophrenic. Just like both of me, so at least that's authentic.

I agree with the reviewer's #4 and #5. The movie sucked big sweaty balls.

Excellent movie. I was a bit dubious about it at first but I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed. I didn't really care that there was no explanation for the infertility or the 'miraculous' pregnancy, you can use your imagination there and probably come up with a dozen reasonable explanations. I can appreciate a movie that takes a major crisis situation and then focuses directly on the actions of a few individuals within that story. To me that is a far more realistic approach than many other apocolyptical movies which try to cover way too much and rely on unrealistic heroism to make the audience feel good. I liked the way that the characters collaborated in this story, just doing what they felt was right at that moment and often not really knowing what they should do.

The characters and the environment they find themselves in are believable, the action scenes (which were plentiful IMO) were very well done and the film had the power to evoke many different emotions which, to me, means that the story is well thought out and executed. Michael Caine's character was terrific, he plays a great cooky old intellectual. I would definitely recommend this film, I was riveted.
