View Full Version : Can't quit the SV....
newbie

So after getting tagged on the highway and totaling out my last SV (2k naked) I decided I cannot quit the SV.
I ended up getting a 2005 SV650S. This time a nice bright yellow. I got it at Mountain Motorsports and the damn thing is spotless. It's pretty much all stock except for the Yoshimara can.
It was kind of nervewracking getting on the bike at first after my accident, but after about a 1/4 mile I knew I had missed riding so much. I'm glad to be back on an SV and will be out commuting once again next week once I get all the proper ride gear and parts for the bike I need.
I'll post up pics tonight when I get home. Damn...the yellow on black fame, swingarm, and wheels looks tight to me.
:groove:
Well here is what it looks like as I'm sure most of you know...(pulled this off the Suzuki web site).

BTW...anything I should know about this year? What is the best way to remove the warning sticker decals?

nice. good job getting back on the horse.
looking forward to the pics. it's funny, we all know what these damn things look like, but seeing pics of them never gets old.

Yes...well I'm far too lazy to take pictures tonight, upload them, link them on the thread...bah. I just stole one from Suzuki.
I just ordered about $350 in parts and accessories...I have a feeling this will turn into another money pit. It backfires so I figure I'll need to get a power commander at some point and dyno it to smooth our the air/fuel mixture.
I don't know why, but I had this feeling if you got those 600s you were looking at, you wouldn't be happy with them and end up wanting another sv. That's a beautiful bike, and don't forget to find out if the recall tank has been swapped out already. ;)

How do I do that? I bought it used at the dealer. Would the dealer know?
Go to any dealer and try and order a tank. I'm pretty sure they will have a database to track who got a new tank already, so if they okay your VIN number, then you're probably on an old tank. Or you can just ask whoever you bought the bike from, but I don't trust those guys at mtn.
the backfiring is the pair valve, look it up

Nice color. Alot better than the 04 yellow. Looks hella cool with the black frame. Everyone knows yellow is the fastest SV. Just ask zoran :D
Enjoy!

Just take a hair dryer to them for a few minutes to warm them up and they peel right off. A hair dryer, used with care, shouldn't be hot enough to hurt the paint. Although for the one on the tank I did use Goo Gone sparingly and it eventually came off (with a lot more swearing than the hair dryer method).
Yellow on black IS sweet (I've got the exact same bike, only naked). As someone already stated, just make sure the tank recall is done and you should be good to go. Take it easy at first, but welcome back to the ranks!

Sweet...just found out today that the tank recall was performed already. :D
One less thing I have to worry about...now just waiting to get my frame sliders and tank protectors before I hit the streets full-time.

I went to the dealer over six months ago and they looked my VIN up on a list and said it didn't need a new tank WTF???? Called Suzuki and never heard anything back from them... Maybe it's time for another phone call...

Yes call Suzuki, that is what I did. I just stayed on hold until I got a hold of a customer rep who checked my VIN.
I called the number on the thread Tom started about this recall. It's a 714-572-1490 number.
Check this thread if you haven't already....

Is it my imagination or are the clipons on this model higher than on previous models. I remember the older SV's being really uncomfortable.

Maybe...I have to ride it around more to compare. But my previous SV was naked with SVS clip-ons so I'm not sure how that would fall into the comparison. It didn't seem that uncomfortable to me at the time I had it.

Sitting on people's 2nd gens, yes, they're a lot more relaxed. I think everything's wider too. It feels like a bigger bike.
