for a 2007 Kawaski Mean Streak. Seems like a great deal, why shouldn't I do it? Any horror stories about Progressive?
P.S. its probably lower than what you'd pay because I'm in Pa.

I have so many fucking horror stories from Progressive it's not funny. I"m actually currently in the middle of fighting them because I setup my car for automatic EFT back in October, and they didn't actually do it. So They cancelled my insurance without telling me for non payment. I went 20 days with out insurance because I didn't KNOW i didn't have insurance. Tried to get full coverage on my truck and car and they watned to charge me twice as much as they used to because I had "Not had insurance for at least 6 months prior".

They also jacked my bike rates almost 30% after the first year citing, "New reports on motorcycle blah blah"

I've had friends who have gotten completely fucked by progressive when it comes to Payouts for damage, as well as taking their damn time for theft payouts.

I had the same problem with them in regards to the non coverage thing. I paid them and thought I was covered and wasn't aware that my insurance had "lapsed". They told me there was a problem but I was not notified. I then could not get insurance because I had no coverage for a month. Unless I wanted to pay the extra few hundred for the next 6 months. Never had to file a claim so I can't speak on that.

I first went with Progressive when living in Florida because of their competitive prices.

Within 2 years, 1 bike was stolen and 1 was totaled in a slow speed crash (both SV650s). I received payment within 2 weeks on both accounts. The service was friendly and courteous. I was actually quite pleased with the company (the branch I was dealing with anyway).

Somehow their rates got outrageous once I moved to SoCal. I’m now with USAA at $208/y.

From past experience (mine and others) I’d go with reliable customer service over rock bottom price.
Ask people in your community. The local branch personnel are usually what makes or breaks a company.

I have Progressive ins. About $600 per year with raised limits of liability plus my senior discount. But that covers 4 bikes, my 06 SV1000s, 03 SV650S, 02 GL1800 , and my wife's 95 Sportster.

If you qualify for USAA it is cheaper. I have 2 bikes and 2 trucks fully covered and it is pretty darned cheap.

I have progressive. 600ish a year for full coverage and lowest deductibles. Geico was $1800/yr!! Just so you know, I'm a 24 y/o w/1 ticket on my record, and I am in MS.

I use the automatic EFT. It works nicely, and I get an email every month a few days before they withdraw the funds. Just make sure you mail in the signed forms authorizing the EFT initially. I think that's where a lot of people run into problems. There is no reminder, they just send it to you, and hope you send it back. I also signed up for the EFT online just to cover all of my bases.

No claims yet, so I can't really contribute there.

They beat State Farm on my Car ins, too, by 40%.

Damn....I'm paying $750 a year on my 05 SVS for liability and uninsured motorist. Looks like I need to start comparing with other insurance companies. My rates actually went down this year after my accident. Two years ago and last year I was paying $750 for the 2000 SV-N with liability only.

DON'T DO Progressive....
Still fighting them for refusing my payments, and then saying I didn't pay. Weird shit, pay using one of their acceptable methods of payment...then they'd send it to a collection agency. It sucks to argue with collection agencys for stuff you've paid.
After that they jacked my rates from 400 to 900.....
Now I have mcgraw(sp?), I pay $176 a year for a zx6r.

USAA DOES NOT GIVE MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE ANYMORE

As of 2004ish they will simply send you to progressive or (Can't remeber the other company). In any case even with a car or truck or wahtever with Progressive, unless you were grandfathered in you cannot get USAA motorcycle insurance anymore.

Hmm, I had no problem getting it about 5 months ago. I switched my 2 trucks and 2 bikes over to USAA after being with 21st Centurey for a couple of years. They did not have motorcycle insurance a while ago but then they told me they started again so I switched to them and it is a lot cheaper than anyone else. The more vehicles I put on the policy the cheaper it gets, go figure.

Went to my regular Insurance co. (State Farm) and got a quote of $349 a year for full coverage. I guess I'm gonna just stay with them, I've got both cars, the house, and the SV with them now, might as well just have one place to call if things ever get ugly.

I renewed my insurance yesterday. I also got some new quotes to see if I could do better. I couldn't.

In California, it comes down to whether or not you have over 9 or 14 years of driving experience (you are considered experiened until you have 14, but you get a break after 9), and if you are married.

You want cheap insurance? Keep your record clean, drive for 14 years and get married!

AAA won for me over St Farm, USAA, and everybody else.

Hmm that must have been very recent then, I called and looked into switching back in September after someone had told me that if you put a car on they will give insurance and they once again told me they do not directly handle motorcycle insurance.

Might just be for California residents.

I had progressive and dropped them (like my bike  ) after the first year. When they came out to survey the damage from the 15mph low-side (off camber corner+wet "stop" strip+two up riding+too much lean at slow speed=wrecked Kawasaki), it seemed like I was going to get the hook up. Ends up though, they deemed the price of repair to be more than the worth of the bike and had it totaled. After trying many times to keep them from totaling the bike out, I ended up buying it back on a salvaged title. It cost me $600 dollars to get it running again. Pretty damn sad... my bike lost half it's value for $600 in damage. When they do have to give you money for repairs, it either goes to a dealership that is going to do the repairs, or to the bank if you still owe on it. This sucked because I did the repairs myself and the money needed had to come out of my pocket, instead of the insurance (which is why I have it in the first place... ) Now I'm with foremost (Foremost.com), which specializes in motorcycles, RV's and classic cars. The rates are 1/3 what I had at progressive. Being in California, it's not as cheap as they could be... but it's better than what it was. Good luck with it...
