View Full Version : Wrist Fatigue??

Ok...I'm back on the bike after my accident and I am now noticing wrist fatigue after about 20 minutes.

Yesterday in particular my wrists were killing me because I went up some twisties riding two up and my girl kept pushing up on me going into the turns from braking.

Anything I can do to help alleviate this? My riding position seems to be the same after my last SV. I keep as upright as possible with as little pressure on the grips. But for most of the ride I feel good amount of pressure on my wrists. Not sure what to do and I'd sure hate to give up riding because of it.

I excersice my wrist at least 4 times a day...

Actually, though, I've heard the best thing to do is grip the tank with your knees as best as you can, and/or have your passenger rest her (or his... ) hands on the tank when decelerating.

Play with the position of your clip ons. Sometimes moving them back a little bit allows you to sit more upright which means less weight on your wrist. And get your girl her own bike. I hate two up on the SV. The rear seat pushes the passenger into you.

have your girl put her palms on the tank when you're riding twisties, and brace herself with her arms when you brake

as far as your bars, it may be as simple as making an effort to hold your weight with your core strength instead of resting on your hands. i am constantly adjusting my position just to keep a light hold on the bars, and it seems to help me.

Cool...thanks for all the feedback.

Yeah I know that my core strength (stomach) could use some more muscle, I'm a bit on the fatty fat side.

As far as my girl she does put her hands on the tank to brace herself but even then it isn't enough. Maybe I should tell her to work out her arms? HA...:)

Yes...riding two up really sucked through the twisties, we were on Mountain going up to Baldy and some of those turns were like  especially when I saw some brick dirt/dust in the middle of the turns. Made my butthole pucker up right quick. Probably not good since it was my first time in the twisties riding 2-up trying to evade that crap in the turns.

I'm going to try adjust the clip-ons first and see if that helps..oh yes and start exercising my stomach, more than just sitting up out of bed in the morning. :D

dont expend so much energy puckering up that butthole. Focus on relaxing those wrists.

tell her to use her own lower back to hold herself up, one of my friends is really good at it. I barely know she's there, except when i split lanes and she squeezes me with her legs.

i split lanes a lot with her on the back

wearing a back protector helps support my back. I barely put any weight on my wrists.

I wear a gurdle, seems to help me feel less like a man.

*Edit* Whoops, wrong thread.:o

Alot of people strighten out there arms when they have a passenger, make sure that you bend your arms a little and a lot of the pain will go away. I did this after I got back from a broken hand. It helped a lot.

Have her hold onto the grab rail if you have one and just be careful not to accelerate or brake too hard. Trust me, I know about flying off the back seat....

Some older bikes used to have a strap across the seat between the rider and the passenger which could be used for lifting the bike onto the center stand or for holding onto. Personally, I never liked holding onto the rider, I always felt more comfortable holding onto the grab rail. This does not work well however, if the rider unexpectedly pops a wheelie or slams on the brakes..... hmm, maybe that is why I ride my own bike....:-?

Yeah...she likes hanging onto me. I don't really do hard braking or unexpected throttling. However, one time I did accidentally pop a wheelie with her on the back. Yeah well...now she holds on.

Thanks for the continued pointers. :D I took some advice on posture and holding the tank more with my knees and it worked out better on the ride home. I'm just not used to having a slippery smooth tank. I'm used to my old primer tank so its a bit of a challenge.

Having your girl squeeze her knees against your body is a good suggestion. Under braking, if her arms aren't long enough to push against the tank without her body pushing into your torso, have her push her hands against your thighs or a low part on your back. The point is to have her pushing back on something other than your upper back, which puts massive weight on your wrists.

Another suggestion: slow it down on the straights so you don't have to do any strong braking before the corners. It'll make her ride much more enjoyable.

As much as I love my keg I suppose I should start cutting down to a 6-pack.
