There's nothing special here; just what I did on Sunday. I went out to a friend's property and rode on the dirtbike.

This weekend was the most serious dirt riding I've done so far. Usually I'd go out by myself and put around the desert and the hills of the west A.V., but as I'm by myself, I'm very cautious.

Saturday I went to Hungry Valley SVRA for the first time, and got a taste of what trail riding is like. Vics Cat trail was one hell of a fuckin' first taste. The switchbacks on the downhills scared the shit out of me, but I made it out of the black diamond trail (and other black diamonds) alive. Which means I can do it again! Unfortunately I don't have pictures from Saturday.

Back to Sunday... motocross...it's some goddamn fun! I guess having a private track makes it nice, too! So here are some pictures. Note that I did not take the jump, but I will the next time I go out there, for sure. And I will buy some dirt gear because street textiles sure do make you hot!

I took all the jumping pictures. The one directly above is badass!

Here's a video clip of the jump. (http://www.socalsvriders.org/modules.php?set_albumName=albvc04&id=MVI_1993&op=modload&name=Photo_Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php)

And this is the link to my album with the rest of the pictures!!! (http://www.socalsvriders.org/modules.php?set_albumName=albvc04&op=modload&name=Photo_Gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php)

Could be fun! I have tons of vehicle maintenance to do...truck (brakes, 75k service)...and each bike needs some, too. I have to race this weekend so I won't have time for any of it. But, I'm thinking I'd like to ride the dirtbike in two weeks, so I'm ordering new tires and a chain and sprockets a.s.a.p.

Who is "we"? You camping overnight out there (I might have to invest in camping gear soon)? You practicing for an upcoming race?

Rob

I haven't checked out the track here, yet. Guess I need to, eh? (The thought of driving to base on a non-workday is a bit hairy, though, hahah!)

Do you live on base? If so, that makes it sure easy for you!

Yeah, I live here on base. I haven't ridden the track, though. I really like the hundreds of miles of trails we have. It is literally a two block ride to the trail for me. I just started riding dirt at the beginning of the year, but have managed to get in about 200 miles. Lost 7lbs in the process!

Hot damn! Are these trials specifically for recreational activities, or do people just head out and ride around, avoiding restricted areas?

The trails nearest housing are for running, etc. and the ones farther out are for riding ATV's. There are some places out there we aren't supposed to go. That's all I'll say about that. The difficulty ranges from "very easy" to "holy shit, you want me to ride up THAT?" Some of my buds are pretty good and will tackle all hills.

Hey supaPhatty J, sorry you don't get the president's day off...

Looks like you guys were having lots of fun on the dirt! MX is good for your health... except for the injuries ;) which usually happens with jumping.

In the spirit of sharing, here are some pix of me from my favorite track Cahuilla
Cahuilla pix (http://www.cakymoto.com/tobybikes/cahuilla101306/index.htm)

There are some recreation areas around LA that has both trail and MX-like loops. But for motocross it'd still be better to hit the tracks, better dirt, more challenging course, and EMT on site. If interested, you can look up, west of LA: I5MX, Piru (all in Gorman area,) and east of LA: Competitive Edge, Race Town, Glen Helen, Cahuilla MX Park. These are the tracks I liked, more motocross style than supercross. Oh, and usually $20 to ride all day!!!

anyways, have fun!

tobychi, those are some great pictures. We have a motocross track up here in Lancaster, though I'm not sure how much they charge to run. It's right next to the freeway at the fairgrounds, so you can see kids jumping as you drive by. My bike isn't much of a jumping bike, so any jumping I do will be pretty modest. Not to mention I need to pick up some skill along the way.

Dunno where Sun Valley is. I'll look it up.

supaPhatty J, Lancaster is still closer to me than Hesperia or Elsinore. So I'll definitely check out the track near Lancaster... do you know what that track is called? Sun Valley is just a bit south from you. I've been watching the development process for the Sun Valley mx park... isn't it for kids tho? Since I'm in Culver City, any MX park within 1 hour drive I'm very interested to find out more :D

I forget what the track is called. I hear it on the radio occasionally though. They started out with a basic MX track. Then added a BMX track. Then they recently expanded the MX track and it's fairly comprehensive. But it's literally on the fairgrounds property, adjacent to the freeway (west side). Avenue H would be your exit.

The antelope Valley motorcross track is the name I think..Also sunvalley is suppose to be for all

Thanks racinteach and sPJ! Will check 'em out. Going to Gorman GP this weekend so I'll definitely swing by Lancaster.

Hey sPJ, I see you have a CMRRA number, how is it related to team Calamari? Could you give me some idea on how it is run and your impression of it? Thanks!

CMRRA is California Motorcycle Road Race Association. Everything you want to know will be right here: www.racecmrra.com

It's crap-ton of fun. Just search for username using "cmrra" or "trackday." There's also a message board on the CMRRA website. Check it out! This weekend is our first race weekend of the season.
