Went to service one of my accounts out in the desert, I guess they used some of there towels I provide that were soaked with a mystery solvent, Well I ingested said solvent some how at 715am, by 10am I was vomiting uncontrollably(19 times) my eyes were on fire I was in an ambulance acting crazy or as a fireman put it"Acting Mentally Disturbed" more vomiting 2 fire trucks 1 paramedic 1 ambulance 2 hazmat crews teariing my work truck apart 1 trip to the emergency room 3 Dr's 7 new puncture wounds 1 36 hour stay at Chino Valley Hospitol and Im home.....

Well apparently Im much better,I feel better but I dont know, all above is true, my work buddies said it was classic me and they thought I was joking because I always told them if something bad happens get in the ambulance and pee all over yourself you will always win a wrk comp case with pee and poop. It was classic I was told...

VENTILATE!

Well then you obviously don't remember giving me your 675...

That sounds like a pretty painful way to get a couple days off...

Good to hear you're ok, we're still gonna see you if all goes well for Sunday right?

That sounds horrendous Steve, I can't imagine how awful you must feel after puking 19 times! I am glad to hear that you are home and recovering.

What is this hydrazine? I will be sure to avoid the stuff.

Safety
Hydrazine is highly toxic and dangerously unstable, especially in the anhydrous form. Symptoms of acute (short-term) exposure to high levels of hydrazine may include irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, dizziness, headache, nausea, pulmonary edema, seizures, and coma in humans. Acute exposure can also damage the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system in humans. The liquid is corrosive and may produce dermatitis from skin contact in humans and animals. Effects to the lungs, liver, spleen, and thyroid have been reported in animals chronically (long-term) exposed to hydrazine via inhalation. Increased incidences of lung, nasal cavity, and liver tumors have been observed in rodents exposed to hydrazine.

I was exposed to that stuff years ago while helping to clean up a F-16 crash site in Germany. Even though we were in open air,4 of us got sick. Not as bad as you did, but it earned us an overnight stay in the hospital. Thats some nasty stuff, glad to hear you're feeling better. Ask your doctor about long-term effects--seriously.

Burning of:Eyes, Throat
Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Passed Out, Didnt remember little things, I was checked out completely and held overnite for observation, I had a trainee with me for 2 months and I couldnt remember his NAME! It may not be Hydrazine in a large dose but its was in the coctail I inhaled....

But I know what an acid trip now is

Hydrazines are any compound based on N2H4. They're typically nasty but some are much nastier than others. Thankfully the normal stuff is just poison. I think I'd rather that, than lose my mind. Your stuff was probably some complicated molecule with a hydrazine backbone or something. Glad you're all right, though. Watch out for your liver.

Hydrazines are used in my business because they make good storable rocket fuels. They're stable at normal temperatures and have a low vapor pressure, so you can put the stuff in a stainless steel tank and leave it for years. Usually used with nitric acid derivatives like IRFNA or N2O4, which are also pretty deadly. The combination has way higher performance than a solid rocket, which is the other alternative for a storable rocket. Also works as a monopropellant. We gave up on it for big rockets about the time they developed Minuteman, but in small quantities for emergency systems it's still popular stuff. Like the F-16 example, where it's used for an emergency power generator.

Glad you're OK. I watched a friend get loopy after tinting 100 gallons of tolulene-based paint when I worked in a paint store; scared the crap outta me (although not literally, like you!)

THIS is why LRRS has just banned exotic race fuels from its motorcycle roadrace series. I'd be willing to bet that anything as potent as that stuff can make serious horsepower in a bike tuned for it. That's why race gas can go for $500 a gallon; and that's why a lot of high-level crew chiefs have had, at least in the past, written into their contracts that they don't have to come into contact with the fuel.

Oh yeah, when you were under, you also said I could ride your SV.

Definitely talk with an unbiased doctor or doctors about possible long term effects and the likelihood of an issue down the road. Then talk with an attorney.

Ah, the king of "Methyl-ethyl-death": hydrazine.

Nothing like inhaling Rocket Fuel to ruin (or make - ?) one's day.

Sorry to learn of your dramatic reaction (not unusual ...), and thank's again for signing over the title to your 675 for $1.

That was really generous of you.

Get well soon !

i can vouch for the rocket fuel comment. a certain, unnamed weapon system uses monomethyl-hydrazine and nitrogen-tetroxide as a propellant.

its nasty stuff. so much so, that we were required to have full-mask respirators open and at the ready, any time we were in a hole.

good job not dying :p

seriously though, thats stuff is nasty. glad you are ok.

you should have seen the shit storm that ensued when one of my guys sent a bag of rags off to the cleaners with a cracked bottle of sodium-cromate in it... man, i thought i was going to jail for that one lol.
