Yeah I'm finally going to do this, well almost, I won't be on my bike but in my 68 Mustang. By the summer I'll be on a bike.
Come race (ideally on a bike but car is great too) or just come by to spectate.
RoadRacers - Work on your starts.
SpeedJunkies - haul ass legally.
It's a fun, not overly intense environment.
Only bummer is I can't procrastinate any more on getting a new helmet, mine was made 9yrs ago :-(

heehee - that was so much fun
only a few bikes this time and they only ran one track but I got 7 runs in
as expected my car was slow, but not the slowest
as expected I lost but I did win one time at least
My best reaction time was .536 (what you want is a .50 so sweeeet) but mostly I did .7x-.8x
I didn't do the burnout thing before pre-staging but did unintentionally spin the tires on a couple of races which isn't good for your time, but was kinda cool
Anyways I'll be going back on the 6th in the car again then probably switch to the harder to do bike dragging after that or one more time in the car

Did you win anything like a 12-pack of beer ?
Guzzigirl2000
Sun 4/1/07, 8:59PM
LOL right.....not
They do give out trophies, the only thing I have a prayer at winning would be for best reaction time.
I'm dragging again on Friday.
pics from last race. I'm the first picture in the second set of pics.

You know, I just might make it down there this Friday night to see you race. I've never been to a drag-racing event.

Sun 4/1/07, 11:30PM
sweet but you know it's probably not worth the 1-1.5hr drive unless you are going to race

These are pretty fun to just go and watch. Might have to roll down, maybe run the bike:D

actually, I won't be able to go this Friday. Some folks will be doing work this Friday night and as the department manager, I will need to be on call and ready to take the blame....
GO kick some a55

Tue 4/3/07, 10:49AM
I went to one of these a few months ago, at Qualcomm there, it was a blast! I didn't race, I just rode down and watched, I'm not really a drag race type, plus watching people have a hell of a time keeping the wheels on the ground is a little nervewracking when I don't do the whole wheelie thing...
Its a blast though, I think its like 15 to watch and 25 to race, I don't really remember, but it was around there. If you want to race you need the full saftey gear too (boots, jacket gloves and helmet) so don't show up with a tank top and flip flops and expect to race!
Guzzigirl2000
Wed 4/4/07, 6:55AM
cool Frenzy, hope to cya Friday
it's $8 to watch, $30 to race
if you're military it's $5 to watch (pass admits 2) and race for just $15

 $30 to run????
Guess who's probably just gonna watch:D
Guzzigirl2000
Wed 4/4/07, 10:52PM
I know... it ends up costing like $4 a run
I like to think of it as making a non-deductible chartible contribution for 5hrs of entertainment
Afterall I would hate for them to stop having this due to lack of funding which does always threaten them each year, so I'm doing my part to help the community :-)

Sat 4/7/07, 12:23AM
Man that was fun
I got like 16 runs in
1 red light, 1 win
my slow car only can manage to go 61-62mph in the 1/8th mile so I am sooo not a contender
1 horrible race that I totally should have one but I misunderstood the lights
got a .558 and a few .65 lights but mostly .71-.73 RT
a decent number of bikes
I'm pooped

CBRMANIMAL
Sat 4/7/07, 7:28AM
Is it 1/8 or 1/4 mile track? I went to irwindale on thurs and the track was full, I was pissed and its only a lame 1/8 mile track anyway. I'm willing to drive further for a 1/4 mile track. Hmm mustang, camaro or RR, I need a big trailer so I can bring all 3 =D Is it every friday?
Guzzigirl2000
Sat 4/7/07, 1:25PM
1/8mile
I thought that's some weak sh*t, must do 1/4
put really 1/8 is fine
when they are running 2 lanes it's bitchin' - you get so many more runs in
Guzzigirl2000
Tue 5/8/07, 7:08AM

I'm finally going to do it, ie race a bike.
Taking the SV out on the 20th and probably a couple dates after that before drag racing the TLS.
Bring your ride out too so I don't have to race against the Hayabusas

Question...I'm hearing different info on bike setup. Of course I don't plan on being too competitive, since this will be my first time, but what minor changes can I make to front suspension to help with the take offs?
I figured I'd bring the SV. That way even if I'm losing races I can make some noise off the start!

The common trick is to strap the front. Use a strap to compress the front end to lower it. Putting in a lowering link and dropping your gearing helps too.
Thought about taking the YSR out there. Go for a 30 second 1/8 mile run

Cool, thanks for the info. Honestly, I'm a little nervous but I know it will be a good learning experience.
Notice how I'm becoming more and more humble. :D
On a side note there is an RC51 sitting in my garage right now :p , but I'm way more comfortable riding the SV.

great comments Sidewalk
I'm super nervous but looking forward to going
there are a few serious drag racers there but the beauty of the Q is that it's just going down there with what ya got and having fun with it...we'll be toast against the hayabusas but we'll have some nice competition amongst ourselves and the other bikes
cya there..................sweeeeeeeeeeeeet

Ahh, backin out again. Got a night out with my lady and no kids, so I don't know, maybe we'll roll down, but probably not.

Sat 7/21/07, 8:03AM
Yeah - finally did it.
Got 11 runs in. Won 1 race. The first race is the most nerve racking, after it's like no biggy. My best runs were early in the evening before it got dark. Had one where I couldn't get traction and was sliding all over the place but 'er done.
Best RT: .596 / Top Speed: 81.22 / ET: 8.857
Avg RT: .7 / Top Speed: 80 / ET: 9.35 so room for improvement
They were some 10 bikes of all sorts running last night. Very huge spectator presence as well.
Thanks Velcro for coming out. Hopefully you'll be able to get more than just a couple runs in before having to go.
Next race, Aug 3rd!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, That was pretty embarassing. First run I lined up wrong and my light never went off I was left sitting there and had to go by myself then the crowd booed. Second run I got a late start after I stalled then the crowd booed some more. :o After that my confidence was non existant. I don't know if racing my friend on his Iron Horse Drag Chopper made it any easier either. All and all I had fun and it was a good learning experience. Don't be surprised if you see a practice drag racing post in the ride out and events forrum. :D
Guzzi, thanks for letting me put my backpack in Lee's truck...always a pleasure.

If anyone wants basic (not advanced) pointers for your first day out, just ask. Lot easier to ask and learn about the tree before you go out then after.
As for stalling, practice launches a freeway onramps with timers. Makes for fun times getting on the freeway. Just give it lots of gas, and feed out the clutch as quick but safely as possible. Lots of fun trying to do on a 1000RR

+1
Trying to launch an SVk is almost as hard but at least it has a linear curve. on the eighth straping the front got me half a second and rear links almost got me another half second off ET's. the whole point is to experiment and remember you get to go as fast as you can without a ticket... have fun all!

My friend is having a huge party at her house, so that is where I will be. I will try to gather the bunch and see if they will all go do to watch some races.
If I see any SV's I will try to ask if they are from the forums.
