Here's what I learned this weekend, you need to practice in between races. I practiced on Friday for the first time in probably 6 months or more and instead of racing hard, protecting my line, and trying to score points, I just went out and worked on body position, turn in points, and throttle control. It paid off with a 1:35.5 in practice on old tires that had 8+ races on them.

On race day, I tried out the Bridgestone DOT's on the EX500 and they just didn't work for me. The bike was sliding around a lot (somewhat) controllably though, but it was a bit disconcerting so I didn't have much fun in the 1st two races. The highlight was in BOTT LW racing for 3rd with Ed on his older Duc 650. It wasn't easy to pass him but, I could get by him in turn 8 or out of 9 mostly at will so I figured I would just chill out and set up a last lap pass for 3rd.

Well, he got by two lappers a lot cleaner than I did on the last lap and I wasn't able to drive past him out of 9 so I had to settle for 4th. I think I can beat him more often than not, so maybe next time.

On the SV I had two awesome races. I felt good on fresh Dunlop slicks and Andy from West Coast GP Cycles had helped adjust my suspension a bit on Friday and I was able to race with the front half of the pack in 550 SBK. I followed Kurt hom in 4th, ran laps in the 33's and one in the 32's and beat JC so I was pretty stoked.

Kurt skipped Formula Twin LW and I was able to take 3rd running solid 33's and feeling pretty good out there. I got a contingency check from West coast GP Cycles so I gotta thank Andy again for him helping adjust my bike so that I could win his money. I also got into the money for the Dunlop contingency so all in all it was a good race weekend.

It was actually my 1st trophy on the SV so I was pretty stoked. Now Kurt was spectating, Chris Rogers had crashed out of 550 SBK, the 07 SV650 superbike from up North didn't run, and Cody's bike stopped shifting so I kinda lucked into the podium this month, but I feel like I was running respectable times so I'm still pretty darn satisfied....

Here's some awesome photos my buddy Gary took of the 550 SBK race. I've got the full res versions if anyone wants (we'll discuss fair compensation depending on how good they are ;) )

Stopped shifting huh? Thats one way to put it :o

Congrats one the finish Dood Woo Hoo!
It looks like you'll be running up front in no time at all.
All you gotta do is be consistant don't crash and you'll be a contender for the championship.

Awesome lap times, 'dood. I had the exact same experience on the Bridgestone DOTs (BT-090s?). That's one of the reasons I'm just a bit leery about trying their slicks; I know they pay more, but I'm not interested in learing to slide more ...

p.s. What are you doing with your takeoffs from the EX? Interested in a trade?

Their slicks didn't slide on me doing 31's yesterday. Doubt they'll slide doing 29's either. Definitely won't slide doing 34's. ;)

Nice riding yesterday Chris, and congrats on the podium.

I'd like the full res version of this picture. :)

Well, if they have slicks in a 150 width, I might try those, otherwise I've got to say those DOTs don't get along with my EX500. The suspension on it is not all that great, but I was able to drag hard parts in the past (dunlp DOT's, slicks, and Michelin DOT's) before sliding the tires and now I definitely can't.

Not sure how much more I will keep riding the EX though because I don't think it has much more in it than 36's and it is so different from the SV I think it might be hurting me to race it at this point... And chasing SV500's and RS250's is quickly becoming no fun..... :(
