I had a question. My bike is running like crap, kinda sluggish. The header pipe where it bolts up to the first cylinder is purplish in color. bike is all stock with 3000 miles on it. does anyone know what would cause this?
thanks
Cory
Bring it to a mechanic. It's really hard to tell since I'm no mechanic. Or before you do that, check to see if it's:
1. bad gas
2. gas tank foam sucked into airbox
3. spark plug not firing/fouled
4. carb jets dirty or out of sync
5. stuck choke

I'd suggest an oil change & tune-up.
If you really want to be anal, have 'em check the valves.

Just got new svs 650 and when i throttle all the way back the bike loses all power. Stumped? 1st bike time to sync carbs? maybe plugs i dunno. possibly some sort of govern?
not sure I fully understand; throttle back would normally mean closing the throttle and I would expect power to drop off. :)
Do you mean it doesn't come back when you open the throttle again? Does the engine die/stall? Engine hot or cold? How many miles? The SV carbs are set very lean and can give many flat spots/poor running..shimming the needles helps and a jet kit helps still further.
If it's a new bike, sounds like a warranty question.

I would suggest getting a rejet kit right away (if nothing else is wrong.)
Until I rejetted my bike (and I added a exhaust) I did not really enjoy my bike much...the throttle response was so jerky it spooked me some times mid-corner.

I'd say you should lift the tank and inspect all your air/vacuum hoses. If something is getting pinched/etc, that could be causing this problem. I doubt it's carb sync, but it would be good to check it, and I'd really doubt it was jetting, if you're losing that much power...
Did you say you just got it, brand new, from the dealer? If so, take it back and yell at them for not setting it up right...

If you have a NEW SV, then you should take it back to the dealer and not mess with it at this time. Our long distance troubleshooting is not always known for accuracy. If the bike isn't on warranty, then a better description of the problem might help us with our analysis.

To racerx:
heat coloration on the pipes is normal pus it looks cool
thing i noticed from the factory was the use really cheap spark plugs
easy fix replace w/ hi/po plugs also have you had your first maintinence?
