So I guess we'll be doing GMR this weekend? Who wants to go and where do we meet?

Brad, you gonna go? You know the area so tell us where to meet......

Nate, you still want those bar end sliders? I will bring them with me if you do....

I'm going to see if I can get down to Newport tomorrow night (where the bike is), and maybe ride back up with Aaron to GMR... I think the best place to meet might just be the little turnout right before going up GMR (where we saw the rollerblader, right before the first 15 mph turn)... I can give people directions to this point if necessary...

On a (slightly) related note, I went up GMR today with the fiancee in the car, and we got stopped by a cop who was sitting about 2 miles up. He walks up to the window, says "First of all, you need to slow down :D , and we're filming a Dodge commercial up here, so it'll be a few minutes."

Me? Slow down? ;)

Well, we should be leaving around 8 am, meeting up with some people ether in newport or at deitrichs/sports challete in HB. Not sure yet. Should find out tonight.

Once you get to Glendora there is a gas station at grand and baseline thta we usualy fill up at. from there you just drive north to Sierra Madre and turn right.. go down that a ways and right before the end you turn left on Glendra Mountain road.

If you type Glendora Mountain Road, Glendora, Ca into mapquest, you will find it.

Hopefully going to go pick up my new jacket tonight, well new to me.

The people I am meeting are setting the place to meet, I will find out where it is tonight. Probably going to be around 22nd street off 55.

Sounds good... I'll be heading up Newport Blvd onto the 55 anyway, so that's right on my way...

Ok looks like we are going to be meeting at the Deitrichs Coffee at Beach and 405 in HB. It's right next to Sports Challette. Had to go with the more central spot since it looks like we will have 6-7 people now. Time was also moved to 7:30 since some people really wanted coffee.. that just means they will have to stop and pee. ;)

It's also a good idea to put some bottled water in your storage compartment. It gets hot out there!

AND GO AT YOUR OWN PACE! the mountain is not that big. Everyone will stop and wait at the fork.

Looks like the plan is to go up the backside first this time (The Azusa side). The back side seems to be much better on the way up than on the way down, the front side is fun both ways.

Okay,
Sounds like a plan... Aaron, I'll let you know later today whether I'll meet you guys at the coffee shop (so far, looking like a yes)... Anyone want to meet us at about 9 AM at the gas station on the corner of Grand and Base Line road in Glendora? Right across from the Denny's, for those who know the area...

I am going to be staying in San Diego tonight and riding GMR tomorrow would be too far to get there very early.
A friend is having a birthday party so I imagine I'll end up drinking tonight and I am never at 100% after a night of drinking. So I'll see everyone next time.

I found this business card in a public restroom the other day that said "come ride with us," so what the hey, I think I'll try and come out for this ride.

I've never ridden GMR before and never yet been out with the SoCalSV gang, so I'm looking forward to it for many reasons.

I'd like to try and meet up as Brad suggested in Glendora at that gas station, since for me the trip down to HB would be a long ways in the opposite direction from our final destination. Will 9AM still be the right time to catch up with the train as it comes through?

Well we are going up the azusa side this time so we won't be going by that gas station. Brad may want to peel off and go up the front side, dunno that is up to him, we could all meet at the Fork in the middle.

The mountain isn't all that big, so if you go up to the fork in the middle you will see everyone eventualy..

So far I now there will be a F4i, F2, R6, ZX7r, SV650 and a other people I don't know.

Sorry this is all so unaccomidating :( I'm just along for the ride.

Hope I get my Jacket today.. :)

Maybe is there a gas station on the Azusa side? I don't know the area, but perhaps there's a place I could meet up with your bunch at the bottom of the back side. I wouldn't want to put anyone out of their way, but if you're planning to top off and/or re-group after the freeway and before the mountain, let me know. If Brad is meeting you guys down in HB for coffee, it might turn into a solo ride for me if I don't hook up with anybody.

If anyone else is going to come out who's not planning on going via Huntington, please chime in. Thanks.

Aaron,
If we're coming up the 55->5->57->210, that gas station is still on our way, although we'll have a slightly longer ride on surface streets to make it... I can check with some people I know about gas stations right off the 39 (San Gabriel Cyn Rd as you go up the mountain), or we can meet at the corner of San Gabriel Cyn and Sierra Madre. There's not a whole lot there, but as long as we gas up, we should be alright... I like the back side of GMR, but I'd like to do whatever possible to try to find a place to meet idukes along the way... I'll make a few calls and see what I can find out.

Okay folks, I found a place to meet. Just north of the 210, on Azusa Ave (39, turns into San Gabriel Cyn Rd), there's a Chevron. 101 N Azusa Ave (in Azusa, CA) if you want a map...

I say Aaron, his buds, me, will probably be there around 9 AM. Anyone wants to join us, show up there instead of the previously listed meeting point (in Glendora)... We'll go up San Gabriel Cyn (snore) to East Fork/Back Side of GMR (woohoo, twisty as hell) to the fork, where we'll probably be at about 10 or so, I'd expect.

Aaron, I'll see you at the coffee shop tomorrow.

Alright folks, I'm leaving, and won't be online probably later tonight...

Anyone has questions/updates (Aaron), drop me a line at 408-813-9031. Otherwise I'll assume 7:30 AM tomorrow at the coffee shop, and 9 AM at the Chevron off the 210 at Azusa Ave...

Thanks a lot Brad. I appreciate you digging up a meeting place so I can catch up with you guys. I'll see you there in the morning. If it's 9 and I'm not there, don't wait for me, if I'm late I'll try to catch you all on the mountain.

Thanks again. See you tomorrow.

I'll see what I can do, though if we leave deitrichs at 8 like we plan then we should be getting to azusa by 8:45 at the latest I figure, ZOOoom. Of coarse the chances of us leaving on time..

Looks like 605 may be faster if we are going to Azusa.

Well damn it, I just found out we are already supposed to be meeting people at the Mobile station on Azusa. I think it is across the street. As a bonus it turns out we are NOW supposed to leave Deitrichs at 7:45 so that we can get to the Mobile station at 8:30.

Well here are the pictures from todays riding. It was a great day and I had a lot of fun. If we ingnore the misshap..

http://www.earlyapex.net/gmr720/index.html

All the damage is cosmentic and I think I'm fine.. gear worked awesome, wish I had had leather pants so i wouldn't have this road rash on my knee.

Sorry leigh I ruined your helmet, I'm fine though. Bike still runs good, just managed to high side my bike a bit while trying to avoid hitting brad. My new jacket worked great. Need new gloves. helmet and a few fairing parts.

Everyone make sure you wear your gear! You never know when you will have a problem, we were OFF the mountain when this happened.

-Aaron G.

I think I'll go riding tomarrow. :)

Theres the picture..

Um lets see..

we were on our way back up to GMR after lunch. Took the left onto GMR fast to get though before an oncoming van. Straightened up, then looked back in my mirror to see if Ward was still behind me. When I looked up Brad was coming to a stop in front of me.. I was probably 8 feet from him. I grabed the front brake, locked the front tire.. It slid a bit, then got traction again.. back end of the bike came up and I was flying threw the air and slamming into the ground.. ended up tearing up the skin on one of my knees (jeans), other than that I am good.

I may leave the tire mark on the wind screen..

800mg ibuprofins ROCK!!

I still REALLY want to go out to GMR tomarrow. I know I shouldn't, but I WANNA  . :D

...so was this the "stoppie from hell" or what? Do I understand this correctly...you have Brad's rear tire mark on your windscreen?? Yeah, you gotta leave that...;)

Brad, what happened to you? Anything?

Glad you two are ok...

Well as I understand it. Once my bike had removed me, it slid a bit.. ended up bumping into Brads back tire with the windscreen. He said he just felt a bump..

I heard the sound of plastic crashing against pavement, and the slide (pretty unmistakeable sounds). I could tell someone had crashed, but I was a little flabbergasted because the idea of how hadn't really entered my mind. I caught a silver/red thing out of the corner of my eye sliding on the right rear area of my bike, and I knew it wasn't good.

His bike actually barely even caused a bump. I looked at my tire, and I can see that the area that left the mark was pretty far over on the right of my tire (i.e. at the VERY edge). I think what must have happened was that the bike was sliding at about the same speed I was. My bike wasn't even upset by the "collision".

Brad, Aaron, Ward, James, it was great to meet you guys and be part of the ride yesterday. (The other guys were cool too, I just didn't retain everyone's name.)

Just wanted to say thanks for having me along. GMR is a really fun ride, and not too far from me here, I'm looking forward to riding it more.

Sorry I had to split early, but I guess I'm glad to have escaped before the crashing commenced. ;) Glad you're ok, Aaron.

Aaron,
I know a guy up in Norcal making shift lever extensions for the SV. Gregg and I are going to get them. $20 US for the piece that you and I are both missing. To get it, we would have to measure the size of the peg that sticks into there to the accuracy of a few thousandths of an inch, but they look really cool... (Knurled aluminum just like the brake side on an SV, don't know about CBR)...

Check it out:

Interested?
