June WSMC Race Report

God I’m glad that’s over! I had fun but it was a very trying weekend.

Saturday practice I had some fun running with Trey and a couple others tooling around and probably helping him too much with his lines. I wasn’t feeling really excited this month, for some reason I just wanted to get my points and go home, could have been the heat or the wind.

Solo GT Lights

After seeing Stuart Smith had signed up I figured on getting second and Armantrout had a crash earlier and wouldn’t be racing. I assumed I would be by myself for the entire race. At the start Stuart pulled a few second gap on me then just stayed at a steady pace. I slowly reeled him in and by lap 14 I think I was right on his tail. I followed him for a few laps and realized he didn’t know I was there. He even slowed down a lot to where I had to make sure no to show him a wheel. I though I’ll just sit back here and try a last lap pass for the win.

BUT, my impatience got the better of me. I had no idea it was so hard to follow some one you know you can pass at any time. Well I tried on what I thought was second to last lap to take the lead, turned out to be more like lap 16 or 17. I figured I’d make a race of it and see if I could put a little gap on him. (Yeah what was I thinking, I mean this is the Stuman right) We had a good battle for the last couple of laps but on the last one he just put his head down and pulled a gap on me, no surprise there.

Sunday I was on the same tires as Saturday and after the sliding I was doing to stay up with Stu I didn’t have much confidence left. I got an Ok start and tried to hang onto Sp8s and Rogers but they pulled away. When we would go around T2 I didn’t like the feeling I was getting from the rear so I couldn’t keep up the pace and settled for 5th.

After sitting around ALLL DAYYY we finally gridded up for FTLW and by this time I just wanted the day to be over. I got one of my typical crappy starts and was behind Armantrout and Dixon for a couple laps. I worked my way passed them and could just see Sp8s about 5 to 10 seconds ahead. I tried to chase him down and gained a little on him but I was just too tired to make it all the way up to him. I started to slack off thinking I had a little gap on 6th place when all of a sudden going into T8 Dixon comes by on the inside. I followed him until the last lap learning from Sat and passed him going in to T1 I think. I just took defensive lines for the rest of the lap and ended up taking 5th.

Overall it was a good weekend I did some quick laps got to dice a little and work on some lines, but I’m still not comfortable in T2 and its costing me. Oh yeah I almost forgot when I got home and unloaded my bike I noticed a little oil on the faring and it looks like my oil cooler is leaking. Glad it didn’t get all the way to my rear tire!

Thanks to all the sponsors this weekend: West Coast GP Cycles, Golden Cantina, Bridgestone and most of all once again my beautiful wife for coming out to the miserable hot and windy desert to watch me and help me with all my pit needs. THANK YOU SWEETIE!!!!
:D

Man, I didn't miss being out there this weekend, though I would have liked watching you stalk Stu. Man, what a shock that could have been if you snuck past him on the last lap for the win. He would have been so mad at himself for that!

Wanna tinker with my bike this weekend?

Cody...you did a great job on Saturday. We were watching you track him down and it was a great sight to see.

And thanks again for all your help this weekend. Your pulling me around the track really was an integral part in my tremendous progress.

See you next month...and in the Solo series as well.

I think I found the line through turn 2 again. You'll have to follow me through there next time to see how it works for you. You only though, Trey will have to pay $20 to see the line or else I will show him one of my crazy, someone is following me and I don't want them to learn my line, lines :D

We'll have to work on your starts too because if you can keep up for those first two laps, I'm sure you'd be right there.
