So I took another ride up on the crest this saturday. After meeting up with Leigh, Gregg, and Brad weekend before last, I figured that I ought to find my way around so that I could be a better local guide next time since I live 5 miles from the La Canada end of the crest. :)
I rode up around 9:30 and went straight through to Wrightwood (right name?) with only a few stops. Then I went back around by Big Pine road to Pearblossom Hwy to Angeles Forest Hwy. Before I headed up Angeles forest, I checked out the little mexican place on the way into Acton.
Anyhow, it was a beautiful day on the crest. I saw a Honda S2000 rally with more than 20 cars. They were zipping through the curves in groups by color (yellow together, red together, etc.). Somewhere past Newcomb's I came upon a red one spun out. They said he caught some gravel and lost control. It wasn't flipped or anything, but it looked like it had sever rim and tire damage and a broken axel (or suspension component).
It was a great 100+ mile ride and, while I'm no expert, I know the roads behind my house a little better now.
