Channel surfing tonight I landed on Speed Ch and caough bits of "On Any Sunday".
I was struck with how primitive the "Road Racers", hell every kind of motorcycle vintage 1971, looks now. But especially the road racers.
Also everyone in 1971 was a :squid: . Even Malcom Smith is out there tooling around in jeans and a t-shirt, poping wheelies.
Speaking of Speed Ch. you'd think they could get Honda atleast to sponsor some better content. Who besides me hates the bald dude who hosts the "wrapper" 2Wheeled Tuesdays? The bimbo spokes models project more intelllegence and I suspect would have wittier things to say if given the chance.

I can't stand that guy. He's as bad as Michelle Smith on American Thunder, but without the chest to make it tolerable.

Yeah I caught the second half of On Any Sunday. I hadn't seen it in probably 15 years. It's a pretty cool movie.
The bit where they talked about the guy breaking the land speed record on a motorcycle said something that really confused me. They said that from 0-100 mph he pushed right to go right, but from 101-200 he pushed left to go right, then when he went over 200 the steering went back to how it was at sub 100 mph speed. Were they just joking when they said this, or is this one of those strange things of physics?

Two-wheel tuesdays wrapper program is embarassing. Is this what they think we want? Some muscle-head jock and a silicone bimbo pushing products from their sponsors on us between the Harley programs.
And Bike Week is narrated by the most boring voice ever. Takes me back to those 60's documentary movies we had to watch in high-school. "Now this is the male lion....see it roar" Tonite they highlighted a charity ride in the arctic circle by a bunch of 60+ year old Canadians. What gives?
Cant we get some decent programs?
Speed has been dissapointing since its sale to Fox. They should change the name to the NASCAR and Harley Davidson only network.

I think speed channel is struggling to find its motorcycle target audience. Most of the programs are geared toward the "nostalgic" set of the populace, but their wrapper seems to be an attempt to capture a younger audience, hence the weekly voiceless bit of eye candy that plays sidekick.
BTW Anyone see the piece on Code's wheelie school? It just seems wrong to me to go to school to learn hooligan antics. 1 wheel antics=rebel.. but school=conformism. Who wants to say they learned how to wheelie in a school? You should have some cool story about learning how, which invariably will include tales of asphalt impact.

They have schools for terrorists....How conformist is that?
Personally I wouldnt spend the money on a whellie school but would appreciate if it were at least part of his regular curiculum. If learning how to control front end lft will save me crash repair $$ than I am all for it.
That movie took me back to when I was about 7, seeing it for the first time, with my friends, eating Cheetos, Corn Chips, and drinking Kool-Aid. I remember watching in awe of all the cool wheelies, slidies, skiddies, bendies, twisties, endos, footies, crash n burns, etc....Cool shit, man. Then we took off on our Schwinns and Huffys, and there was that one kid who had a Montgomery Ward GP Special bike, and took off down the neighborhood, all hopped up on Kool-Aid and Pixie Stix, trying to do all the tricks in the movie, except with disastrous results....Good times, good stuff.;)

Who's this rapper you guys keep talking about? Do you mean Greg White? He's a racer and could smoke any of us riding his bike backward.

"Wrapper" is a referance to the "fluff" programming they have between the normal shows on 2-wheel Tuesdays (speed channel) This is where they will do shameless sponsor promotion (Kaw last night) and have some silicone bimbo thats purely there for show.
I'm sure the host guy is some rider/racer, but hes not a good television personality so its extremely akward and boring to watch him.

Okay, yeah you're all talking about the bit Greg White does in "Greg's Garage". I actually like that. I'm not much for the unatractive bimbo's, but having Tommy Haden on there last night was cool.

Having Tommy on for an interview was pretty cool, but its a shame most of the racer celebs arent the most intellectual types for interviewing.
Course there is always Shaq, who is Ohh so educated in everything he says. :D

It seemed like Tommy said "ya know" every other word.

But you have to admire how well he did his RedBull product placements...the boy can fake-sip and get the packaging pointed at the camera and make it look nearly effortless.

That bald guy is a pro racer. He raced in 2-3 races in daytona. So I give him some respect.

Personally I like the unattractive bimbos. It's Greg and his racer buddies that sink like a lead balloon.
Though Dave Dispain's on-air pressence is z-z-z-z-z inducing as well.
You'd think some one could mount an informatve program that didn't pander to Geriatric Hardly riders, yet didn't scare off major sponsors with X-Game hoolaganism.
Things like bike comparos and features on roads (ala Pashnit would be nice). Riding tips, (though the lawyers would probably nix that pronto), maintance and modification, (with disclaimner that modifying emissions related equipment is for race track/off road only ;) )
Well I guess one can dream.

What a cool movie ! I can remember seeing it at the theater, but then, I'm an old fart. That was before the Japanese bikes began to dominate MX. Anyone seen a Maico lately ?
And how about the guys wearing football shoulder pads in the desert scenes ?

Dude that bald guy can never say 'Duhamel' correctly. He always says, 'Du-Ha-MEL' instead of 'Du-HA-mel'. Pisses me off. ;)
