Yeah, it's late, so I'll make it short.
I wake up Sunday morning at 6AM to quickly fix my front brake lever, load up and leave by 7. So I finally leave Long Beach at 8AM, get the track at 9AM, miss both practices, and barely get teched and ready before race #1, 550 SBK.
A quick warm-up lap and I've got the holeshopt on the start. Jump gets by me right away but I hang with him a little as I do my fastest lap of the weekend on my first flying lap with no practice and old tires. A 1:30.6 is a good way to start the weekend but there was no where to go but down for me.
Stuart the Stuman Smith put a close inside pass on me going into 9 on the 3rd lap to take over 2nd, but I was able to stay on the gas and draft him down the front straight. I pulled out of the draft on the inside and went a little deeper on the brakes and retook 2nd. That was the fastest person I have ever put a pass on before and in fact he is the current class record holder so that was my big accomplishment for the weekend. My next biggest was holding him off until turn 2 where he came right on by... at least he didn't pass through turn 1 or immediately on the exit...
My old rear tire (8 or 9 races on it) was starting to slide in a couple of places and I probably backed off more than I needed to, but i have a thing against crashing. I knew Rogers was back there some where and knew he would be coming.
I ended up getting slowed by a lapper a little and didn't want to force a pass and then blew turn 5 a little and Chris got right on by on lap 7 or so. He had more speed than me easily and I was just able to hang close to finish just under 3 seconds behind him. Som a 4th place with some bonafide fast dudes in front of me and I beat Cody again... good race.
In BOTT MW, I got another good start and was in 2nd place until the 3rd lap when Chaconas came by on a Buell I think. I ran a best of 1:32.8 on a slightly less used rear tire but was mostly cruising since there was no one right behind me.
In the last race, F-Twin LW, I had a pretty uneventful race. In higher winds, I had slowed to a 1:33.4 and was mostly in the 34's and Cody was only 5 seconds behind me at the finish, but I'm sure I would have had something for him if he had caught me..... maybe next time if he stops getting crappy starts....
So a decent weekend, pretty much matched my personal best on the same tires I did a 1:30.5 last month on, had some good racing, put a pass on Stuman and got a little Dunlop money.
