View Full Version : Crazy CHP presence at the Rock Store.

Today on the way to The Rock Store, there were probably a total of ten CHP cruisers, a motorcycle cop, a Mobile Command unit, and I think a CHP helicopter as well.
They were all over the Rock Store, and they had a little check point or something right before Kannan Dune Rd.
I saw a guy standing on the side of the road with all his gear and no bike. I think the cops impounded it. It was insane. One of the houses on the side had a sign that said, "Thank You CHP."
It's no joke up there. Be cautious. At the Rock Store, I even saw a cruiser that was parked on the side of the road maybe a foot past a "No Stopping" sign, and he got a ticket.
Maybe this thing started:

I'll take Southern California landmarks for $500, please, Alex.
A bar and grill on Mulholland Highway east of Malibu, also a popular destination for car and motorcycle enthusiasts.

This is why I stay away from the canyons in that area. Too many patrols and too many people congesting them.

From what I understand, it looks its the current hot topic and I would say the popular runs around LA are going to be stalked for the rest of the year, but come next year expect the hype to have blown over and and people riding again.

They can't keep me from riding my favorite roads... this is why we tap our helmets for eachother. No tap = all clear. This just means more week-day rides and leaving the bike parked on the weekends.
Do watch for the planes, though, they were stalking the grapevine last week and they might do the same up in the hills.
Two can play this game.

Yeah, Laura said you gave her misleading information! We were there in the afternoon and saw CHP RVs and countless cruisers everywhere. I did not see the chopper. Maybe he was already gone by the time we got there. The roads were pretty quite! ;)
Note to self, do not ride in Malibu on Sunday again!

Give it just a few more months, IMHO...once the "summer" riders begin garaging their bikes, things will go back to normal...

Don't want to sound like a party popper, but hey they can't stop you from doing the speed limit and the speed limit there is pretty high for a canyon road..you should be able to have fun at the limit..
We all know who theyare trying to get the real speeder and jackals that give us a bad name. You wanna go fast go to the track or go racing...we all know that. We need to enjoy the canyons, not be working on our cornering technique...
I am writing to that reporter about the one sided view of the article. I think that person needs some more insight...
They're probably doing us all a favor anyway. I would imagine that the bikes getting impounded are the ones being ridden by unlicensed/uninsured riders. You can have a lot of fun in that area without breaking the speed limit. No reason to be taking the fast turns at 100 mph -- have fun in the tight ones at 35 mph. My 0.02 but I don't even ride on the street anymore.

Every time I go up there there are usually a couple of jackwads in expensive cars playing Gran Tourismo opn both sides of the double yellow. I'm avoiding that area before I get taken out. I'm not surprised at all the police presence, or the attitudes of the local residents.
Its crazy.
