since the '08 season is at the halfway point, it is update time...
with the cost of gas and everything else going thru the roof, it has been a challenge to race 2 clubs this year. where i decided to cut corners is skipping track days and just running the practice day before a race and then racing.
this is a double edged sword, because it makes the learning curve really steep, and other people that have more seat time than you at a track can be a lot more brave...however-if you're willing to toss it out there...
the next round was buttonwillow may 10-11 for WERA, i ran the lwt solo endurance with the SV & mini endurance with the crf 80 on saturday, hvywt sbk, lwt sbk, D sbk, Clubman, mini 50, on sunday. that many races in that short of a time frame is exhausting...
i ran a personal best of 2:07 for almost 10 consectutive laps in the lwt solo race on saturday. On sunday, i was exhausted, but still ran really well. overall finshes saturday: Lwt solo endurance-6th, mini endurance-2nd
sunday: Heavywt sbk- 5th, Lwt sbk-6th, D-superbike -3rd, clubman- 3rd, mini 50- 3rd.
next up was infineon, may 25-26, AFM. the only thing i wanted to do this weekend was hold onto to 5th place overall in 250 prod and finish in the top 40 for 650 twins. after 1 round of practice on saturday, it got rained out, so i didnt put wheels on the track again until sunday morning. everybody was ansy, since there was literally no good practice time before we gridded up to race, so there was a lot of crashing.
in 250 prod, my clutch starting letting go on the start, so i got the hyosung up into the top gear & just pinned it-i couldnt downshift because i knew the plates would probably lock up or something & i'd dump the bike. this was the more important race because of the class standing, so i just did the best i could with one gear. i was bummed because i ran really well in the one practice session i had on saturday, but because i couldnt drive off the corners, i just did the best i could to hang onto to the bikes in front of me...i finished 9th, but it was good enough to keep me in 5th overall :D.
650 twins was a disaster...2 red flags on the first lap of the race after each start- the incident that caused the 2nd one happened right in front of me & i knew the guy that faceplanted on the track after being plowed into by another bike as we we going thru t9...so on the 3rd time starting, i was having serious doubts about going through with this...so i didnt feel super fiesty when the flag dropped. i was a lot more conservative than i planned on being, but i ran ok-dropped 2 sec and finished 42nd. my friend that went down in t9 ended up having to go to the hospital, but he was ok.
next up: Miller then Las Vegas for the WERA nationals and a 4 & 6 hour endurance race :D
