Well, after all the years of avoiding the Crest (some of you may remember a previous post) I went up there with 3 buddies yesterday. Thinking back I just remembered when I started riding all I heard about concerning the Crest was that there were crazy "sport bike" riders that tried to pass you around corners, etc. as well as all the accidents,etc,etc.. Now I started on "cruisers" so of course this worried me a bit.
Anyway, to make a long story shorter, We rode out on the 118 to the 210, off at Angeles Crest, popped into the Shell there, Guy comes in off the Crest and tells us that 2 Cruisers(CHP) and 3 motor officers just went up. Bummer! So, we didn't really move going up(55-ish) then took the Mt. Wilson turn off and went up there. Great view! Back down the way we came, a bit quicker(fun) and took Big Tujunga(which I love)toward Acton, out the 14 to the 138 to Lake Hughes. Lunch at the Rock Inn(warm) down Lake Hughes rd back to Castaic(lots of gravel, friend on Bandit 1200's rear tire cut loose around one corner...pucker factor 8.0), 5 South to the 126 to Torrey rd to Guiberson(great little backroad twisties(good speed through there) over Grimes Cyn and back to Camarillo. A bit over 200 miles all together.
So, now I have been on the Crest and it as you all said, a great road. May go back up next weekend.
Will have to see if I can show you some of the roads up this way. Ya gotta love So. Ca.!

I've had people warn me away from several roads ... and I've decided that everyone has their opinions ... and that I'd rather figure it out for myself than never know ... When I first started out I was more apt to listen just because I didn't feel confident in my ability to feel out new roads ... etc.

I definately want to explore angeles crest more ... gotta get Nat to be the tour guide ...! :)

I've only been through the crest once on my bike. I liked it. To me it seemed like a longer version of Ortega. Lots of high speed. Lately i've stayed away because i've heard the cops have been real dickheadso=>

once the snow melts at the top of the mountain, crest will be a great ride. it's fun now but the road after newcombs to mt wilson is dirty. once that opens, it's riding heaven.

I've been up the Crest once... Loved it :)

But from what everyone says, I highly recommend weekdays if you can swing it... Damn cops...

Since Leigh mentioned I should be a tour guide for the Crest, it got me thinking...........

....when was the last time I actually rode the Crest? At least 2 weeks. A lot can change in 2 weeks.

Anyone up for a ride on some of the best roads in SoCal followed by a really kick-ass mexican restaurant for a late lunch?
