View Full Version : GMR - Sunday 7/28

Wed 7/24/02, 2:17PM
I think I'm gonna go up to GMR this Sunday ... anyone interested in going, lemme know and we'll work something out.

I'm probably going to meet up w/some of the peeps I used to ride with as well ... not sure yet, but might just plan for the people in this area to meet up at Diedrich's and head out from there ...

I've been riding w/the SV group pretty exclusively (it's not my fault Jeff joined in their group ... as I've said before, I WILL NOT RIDE WITH HIM ... if he shows up and starts riding with the group, I will leave ...)... so I thought it'd be nice to maybe get everyone interested together ...

Let me know where we can meet near GMR. It is WAY WAY out of the way for me to head towards the beach then back to GMR.

When & where do we meet?
:D

Wed 7/24/02, 2:56PM
Meeting place should be the gas station I'm used to meet at. It makes the most amount of sense as far as placement w/the freeway.

Off the 210 take the grand ave exit ...

There's a gas station there, right across the street from Denny's, I can't remember what kind it is. I might be riding there this friday, if I do, I'll find out ... otherwise, just look for the Denny's ...

I'm not sure about time ... I was thinking 11am ... nothing too early ...

I might be up for it. There are a couple gas stations there (76 and Ultramar)...

Yup...

Ya'll smart ...

Don't need me ... ;)

Oh yeah if ya'll want pix taken, better do it soon ... I'm going to be selling my camera and will probably be without for quite awhile (sad look) ...

I'm going to be selling my camera

Leigh, tell me it's not so! I would think that the camera would be one of the last things to go...sorry to hear that. Isn't there someway that you could turn the camera into some type of moneymaker for you? Just a thought...I really like your pics...you have a good eye for composition...

Burst
Wed 7/24/02, 5:01PM
You are one of very few people I have seen that actually can take GOOD pictures..... It would be a shame if you didn't keep at it.

ersigh
Thu 7/25/02, 1:24AM
I won't stop taking pictures ... sheesh. It's my goal in life!!

It makes me sad, but I need the money and after going to the races, I have reached the point of FED UP with the limitations of non SLR cameras ... I spent an entire day getting burnt, to get a bunch of pictures that would be fucking AWESOME if it wasn't for the fact the lens simply couldn't capture 200mph+ motorcycles being super sexy ...

(hurumph)

It will motivate me to find a way to get the one that I want ...

I need to be able to pay for my bike. The camera being sold will cover what I'm going to owe by mid august.

I mean ... weigh it out ... lose the bike or lose the camera ...

Oh yeah, I don't know if I can make it Sunday. It looks like I'll be heading to Arizona for the weekend ...

That'd be great! Please do come :) Just take it at your own pace, ride your own ride. I'll be behind you.

How far is it from San Diego??? I wouldn't mind going but would rather ride up there with someone from SD. If linp or anybody else from SD is going and wouldn't mind a riding partner, I will go.

And yes, I will bring a map along. ;)

and if I end up going, The SD peeps could meet up w/me at he Shell Station here in Murrieta. Paul knows where it is.
The 15 will be your best bet for getting there. I think going up the 5 is considerably longer. I could be wrong.....

take the 15n to 91w to 71n to 210w. Should be less than 2 hours from SD. Takes me an hour or less(depending on how much of a hooligan I am feeling like)

Never worry about slowing people down. Riding is about staying within your limits ... which means when people go out, if they are good riders, everyone rides their own pace ...

On occasion, there will be someone who will be into helping out newbies ...

Be sure to keep your mind on the road, don't focus on your mirrors or worry about people behind you. When people faster than you come up behind you, move to the right, and motion people to pass you ...

I've seen a few people fall from worrying too much about others ...

I'm pretty green, but if you all don't mind newbies I think I'll come out too. It'll be nice to meet some fellow SV riders and maybe I can pick up a thing or two from some of you folks.

Leigh are you still going to AZ this weekend?

Everyone else, if you are going to meet up at Deidrichs you guys figure out what time.

Myself and other peeps from further south will plan on being at the gas station off the Grand exit at 10am. Everyone ok with that?

Brad, are you joining us this weekend? If so do you want to meet us at the gas station, just in case we don't end up meeting up with the other group? Not sure if anyone from down this way really knows the area or how to get to GMR from there.... (No, I don't remember.....I know I should but I don't ;) )

Anyone who think deidrichs is out of the way meet at the gas station. I am not sure where deidrichs is...... All I know is, it is not on the way for me since I would have to head west then turn around and go east again, when I could just go north. I am thinking we should meet at 10am and leave by 10:30

Unfortunately, I'm not going to make it... I'm down in Newport this weekend, and my bike is in Glendora... I don't have a way to get up there tomorrow morning. Plus, since I'm going to be riding next week early, and starting a job next Thursday, I'm pretty sure my lady friend wants to spend time with me :)

Well 9am is the usual time that I've gone there. I do'nt usually go there because that's mostly the group with the big bikes who all ride insanely fast and stuff ... I get tired of the egos.

The people that meet up there are from a variety of groups and they all sort of decide there where they are gonna go ... I go there to find specific people ...

Diedrichs' is on Beach Blvd right before (1 block in a half) the 405 on ramps, next to SportsMart or whatever it's called ... on the south side i believe.

Do you think it would be wise to take a person and bike that are not past the 500 mile break in to GMR tomorrow? I was thinking about going with a friend of mine who just got his SVS recently, but it only has about 350 miles on it so he technically isn't supposed to be running it above 5k RPMs. What would you do?

SVSinFV
Sat 7/27/02, 5:34PM
I say bring them along, besides I think it’s not the 5k, the engine is concerned about as much as it is a constant RPM. So if they are on the Freeway vary the speed and as long as they arent redlining it every chance they get your friend will be fine.

I think the important thing to consider is the guy only has 350 miles under his belt.
If you do bring him, stick with him and tell him not to let the other riders' pace force him to ride outside his comfort zone.

I think I will be there. Mark with the XX may come too... I will try and take it easy and do no damage to my motorcycle/self this time. :monkey: why is the monkey so angry.

Time to go work on my car, need to get it running if I am going to be able to move.

This will be my first foray into the mountains and I've only got about 1500 miles under my belt. I'm sure I'll be pulling up the rear. You all will stop for a break and by the time I catch up you'll be ready to go again. =)

My total lifetime riding experience (besides MSF) only includes about 300 miles of off-road and about 150 miles on road - all of it since April.

I think there seems to be a number of novices hitting the mountain tomorrow. We'll probably naturally migrate into two packs as we get into our "groove".

What you been doing!? :D I bought my bike in.. May? toward the end and I have 4100+ miles on my bike.. Yay!

Update:
I just found out that GMR is really dirty as of today. Some blind corner exits have gravel on them. :monkey:

i was in glendora this morning with my cousin. we both hit gravel, or sand on the middle of a blind turn. both of us low sided our bikes and hit the pavement. we're both ok except for a bad gash on my cousin's knees.

as for our bikes, both are pretty scratched up. my SVS' front brake lever has to be replaced 'coz of a crack.

anyway, i'll be passing up on tomorrow to recover from today and i don't want to take the risk of riding a bike with less than 100% braking power.

tip: always dress for the crash!
