I think the scale was kilometers not miles ~140 mph (look in the inner scale).

The inner circle is kph. He touched down at 140mph.

40 on the outer circle matches up with 70 on the inner.
70 on the outer circle matches up with 110 inner.

Its so wrong and so right that your average person can spend less than $20k to go 230mph.

Totally. That shit is just reckless and irresponsible. No one should own a Hayabusa. It is the devil's bike, made for wrecking shop and other evil shit.

I had a chance to ride one of these beasts at speeds close to what is on that video. And although I didn't attain said speeds with such ferocity, it was still totally mindblowing. The damn thing actualy became more comfortable at well over 150 MPH.

I wouldn't say that... I just think he should upshift.

I rode my friends completely stock 2002 'Busa just for a few miles... I can't imagine myself ever having so much skill that I would need that bike. Overpowered is an understatement. These things will go just as fast as you can pull that throttle back. I was scared out of my mind when I got on it, so I was riding pretty tame, and the thing still scared the crap outta me... cruising at 30 barely at 4-5K, snap the throttle a bit and I'm instantly doing warp speed with tail lights coming up fast... just way too much

I'm not sure if it was the power, or the weight, or the size... but out of any bike I have ever ridden, I felt the most insecure about leaning that bike over. It feels like it's life goal is to terminate it's rider.

I've been riding for around 6 years now on the street... the busa makes me feel like I need training wheels again.

I'll take a nice little happy SV... the SV is everyone's friend! :D

What do yo think his top speed was? 230-235 mph?

The speedo stopped at 220 @ 10k RPMs and he continued on to reach 11k RPMs.

Well, I think there was some heavy speedometer error going on, I seriously doubt he was going over 200, mabey around 190........then again, he could have some badass turbo giving him 400 horsepowere making it all a possibility:confused:

SVelocity
Tue 7/22/03, 9:49AM
Why do you think there was some heavy speedometer error going on?

Lets say his speedometer was off by +/- 10% (and thats a lot) then he would be anywhere between 200 and 240mph.

I know these bikes (Haba & ZX12) eventually had a governor put on to limit there speed to 180mph but I also heard that's pretty easy to remove. With simple rejetting and pipe work I think you can make these bikes REALLY scream and there is no need for a turbo.

Because the top speed of a Hayabusa is 186, the ungoverned ones top out at around 194.

Thats why I mentioned the turbo, which would make a 200+ run alot more likely.

Tue 7/22/03, 11:50AM
Hate to say it, but at 200 + MPH, don't you think the scenery would be going bye a lot faster than it appears to be in the video.

I've run at 140 before and the dotted white line isn't dotted anymore...kinda becomes solid.

I've never ridden a Busa...but I sure would like to see someone pull 2nd, 3rd AND 4th gear on the back tire alone at over 100 MPH!

SVelocity
Tue 7/22/03, 12:23PM
So are we saying this is a fake?

We all have seen that crazy :squid: pull a wheelie going 80mph on the I5 and then blow past you still on one wheel. So the wheelie thing isn't unbelievable (just insane).

Regarding the scenery and dotted white line...you raise a good point. Except the camera was pointing pretty far ahead and did not give us the view of the pavement directly below the front tire nor what was on either side. I think this allows the viewer to anticipate what was coming up and not give the feeling that things were whizzing past us at an increasing rate. Hence, the dotted not becoming solid.

Lets say it is a forgery, how does one pull this off? I certainly don't have the technical know how even to begin imagining how you would create this seemly real video.

I guess you would only have to fake the gages...

Any ideas?

Lots of ways you could look at it.

One, Ever see an onboard camera shot from a superbike race...lots of camera shake...at nearly 200 MPH. I'm sure that the video camera supposedly on that tank was far less hi-tech than what they use in the pros. So hands down, that is the steadiest camera shot I have ever seen...ESPECIALLY at over 200 MPH!

Two, one could only dream of an interstate that smooth with what appears to be NO traffic on their side of the road.

Also, at about the 50 second mark on the video, watch how long the cop spot (U Turn area) stays in the picture. At 200 MPH that thing would be GONE in the blink of an eye.

MOST Noticable is that at what appears to be 150 MPH he raises up from behind the screen nice and easy. Look at the reflection in the Speedo! Know anyone that is good enough to ride, getting wind blasted at 150 MPH without the slightest shake?

Finally, watch how long the skid marks are in front of the camera and what looks to be 100 MPH...

Something just ain't right...

Kurt'sSV
Tue 7/22/03, 1:02PM
That's the slowest 220 mph I've ever seen. Though things look like they're going slower through the perspective of a video camera. Just look at the video's Jeff has shot of us on Palomar. It looks like we're going 15 mph the whole time, but we're really going much faster.

Tillers_Rule
Tue 7/22/03, 2:30PM
Hey, I got some backing, all right, your a pretty cool guy Kurt;)

SVelocity
Tue 7/22/03, 2:36PM
Good point about the skid mark, but... He was slowing down at the time and the bike could have slowed faster than his speedo was capable of registering.

The streets on the left do seem to appear to move past slowly...

I disagree with your point about him sitting up at 150mph. I think he was still recovering from the wheelie. His front wheel landed at 140mph and so he was still in the upright position from the wheelie. At 150mph he goes into a tuck which he held until the end.

All in all I would have to agree things are fishy but can anyone tell me how you would fake this...

Chris

That would be VERY easy to fake with an analog spedometer, just change the driven gear to a much lower one.

I'm sure someone who know enough about electric speedometers could rig something to trick the speedometer and make it climg at a rate it shouldnt.

Thats how the TRE mods work, fool the bike into thinking it's in a different gear than it actually is, so like I said, the speedometer can be fooled as well.

after reading this thread i'm honestly exhausted.
150, 200, or 220 mph....who cares, i'm willing to bet $3...no, make that $6, that you'd end up just as dead (give or take 10 percent) in the event of a get off.

Well, I've seen Mat Mladin control a blowout at 170+ mph, and i'd be willing to bet that he couldn't have done that at 220:confused:

probably wasn't matt mladin in the video. i saw the blow out too. his get off was at about 20 mph at the very end of what has got to be on of the most incredible saves of all time. I seriously doubt that you, I, or pretty much about 99% of the people out there would be able to pull that off so once again i would venture a guess that in the event of a get off at 150, it probably would not feel much better than one at 200, but that's a whole another thread and probably not all that interesting to begin with and yet would be just as exhausting.

... fake or not that was great. It took me about 20 min to download it, 26.4 download speed, and for that 1.09min, it was great. I have never wanted a 'BUSA more.

Points from others: looking at the reflection of "him" sitting up at what everspeed: When its in the air you can see the sky in the reflection too, plus you can hear the air "change" when he sits up...

Tinkering with the speedo gears to make it register faster, what about the RPM's that you hear, and I counted 6 gears...

Police turn out: I dont think they are a uniform length, - especially if you look at the first turn out at about 200 MPH, it goes by pretty slow - could be a bit longer - but then the next 2 @ 220 MPH displayed go by real quick, maybe the extra speed - 20 MPH - and maybe they are a little smaller, too bad we didnt know how far apart they were? distance/time/speed...

I did see the MPH stop while the RPM's kept going, hey if its a fonny I gotta a mesg to the editor: GET in touch with me I gotta job for you!

Regardless if I think it is fake or not...which I do...I sure as hell don't see myself buying a Busa. I've seen stock ones, I've seen custom paint jobs, hell, I've seen one at the shop broken in all kinds of pieces...NONE OF THEM LOOKED GOOD!

Besides, there sure as hell aren't any back-road red-neck freeways in Southern California that would allow such a display of speed...

What would have proven this video authentic would have been a camera on the Busa he obviously left behind with similar readouts on the gauges!

NukleoN
Tue 7/22/03, 7:58PM
It doesn't seem real to me....the scenery looks like it's going by too slowly, video or no video. I'd like to compare a WMV of 130 MPH with 220 MPH...I know the scenery tends to go by way faster than that at 130 MPH. Either way, it's a cool vid...exciting.

I have a video of a turbo 'busa that was 'only' getting up to 170 or 180 mph and that was with a turbo. That vid has got to be fake.

NukleoN
Tue 7/22/03, 8:11PM
Yeah I would bet it's fake..even Rossi's bike barely does 200 MPH....and I certainly have a hard time believing someone would wheelie through several gears at a 100+, aside from the ridiculous top speed and how quick the Busa got there.
