Carb Party, Sunday, 8/4

Dave Franklin and I are planning on rejetting his bike for his new Renegade hi-mount. I was planning on upgrading to 49-state parts, but after rick77f's latest news, I may hold off. We are also thinking about doing some carb synching...then a Palos Verdes ride. If anyone wants to stop by...especially any South Bay peeps...let me know. We plan on meeting at 10:30AM...directions to follow...

I need to sync my carbs ...

Out of curiousity ... is anyone near the mileage to need to swap their coolant out or do their valves??

I need to do this ... and like the idea of doing it with someone else ...

Got about 12K miles, need to do valves at 15... I had figured I'd make a trek down to Gregg's place for this... We may be able to set it up for another little party (plus I may do forks the same time too ;) )

I already did my carb sync at ricks place a couple months ago, but I'd be interested on a ride around PV, what time do you think you'll head out?

I've got 2000 to go til the tappet clearance needs to be checked.
I wish I had the money for some cams, it would be very easy to just swap them while I have the covers off....... I can't swing $600 for cams tho. Too much $$$ needed elsewhere.

There was a cam discussion on one of the other boards and they noted that it exchanges low down torque for high end HP. One of the most endearing things about the SV is the low end. If it were all high end, it'd be like any other sport bike.

On the SVRider.com board, they were talking about swapping sprockets. That sounded better than cams because you get more HP and torque across the entire RPM range at the cost of max speed. I myself haven't needed to above 100mph yet, it might be worth swapping some of that unused top speed for more power...

Actually, someone had stated that, "the cams in combination with a full exhaust, never dropped the torque below stock anywhere in the power band."

I can't find the link to where I read that, nor can I say whether or not that person knew what they were talking about. But I think it is definitely something worth looking into. I have a really hard time believing that yosh would manufacture and sell a product the takes away one of the best qualities in this bike. And if they did, I am quite sure nobody would buy them. If nobody bought them, they would be discontinued.

The sprocket deal will probably be the next mod for me since it is getting close to being time for a new chain. Somehow I have managed to stretch individual portions of the chain. So, when I adjust it, I can turn the wheel and find it is way too tight in one spot and too loose in another. I figure I may as well order a sprocket with the chain........

actually I found it.....

I had Yosh send me a PDF file of their cams.There are 3 graphs.Stock,full system,
cams and full system.The cammed system never drops below stock or fullsystem .
At 7000 rpm it equals the stock output.New total 80 hp with stock jetting.Send me an

no can do..... I have to try and make some progress on the undertail molds and also maybe get started on a cowl/trunk mold this weekend. Too bad tho, I need to change the jets again and sync the carbs. My bike is not happy with the 140mains OR 17.5 pilots. I am gonna go back to the 137.5/15 combo with 3 turns and see how that does.

Anyone need some jets? I am gonna keep the mains, someone want the pilots?

Hey Todd - that'd be cool if you showed up! I've got a nice circuit around PV that I do, and I hardly ever encounter any traffic (maybe becuz I'm going too slow?). Since I've done my carbs already, and Dave just needs to rejet, hopefully we'd be done around noon-ish...

Paul - that sure is a loooong way for you to go to watch some guys work on carbs and then do a mellow ride around Palos Verdes! We'd love to have you, but are you sure it'll be worth it? I was hoping to shake out a bunch of the other local peeps: Jessv, motofrenzy, MBSV, sandie, solaris, robawsm, etc., etc...

I know a guy who put a pipe, airfilter on his SV ... no rejetting, and he was dyno'd TWICE @ 80hp ... no one else in his circle of SVS had such good luck with thier bike tho' ... (i should ask him what pipe he used, cuz' i can't remember)

I changed my front sprocket down one size ... and have lost a massive amount of top end. My top speed, basically @ red ... 115mph

As far as the carb party goes, I'll try and make it. If my bike isn't starting on it's own, might be pointless ... (i'm not really too into the idea of just sitting around ... when I could be riding) ...

Leigh, probably the easiest way to make money taking pictures would be to make a website with pictures of girls and get membership fees if it's really good. Sell pictures on ebay or other auction sites, I'm starting an adult auction site in a couple weeks. You can find girls on your own, give them a small % so you don't have to put out any cash. Make your website, take paypal payments so you don't have to get a credit card merchant account. And just promote it and get traffic. If you come down Sunday we can talk more, I've got plenty of ideas.

I was thinking it'd probably be easier for me to get into it, if I was taking pictures for someone rather than trying to create stuff on my own ... it's hard to be creative when the thing I'm supposed to create is something that doesn't affect me.

I'm not gonna be there tomorrow, gonna go up to GMR in the morning ... I wanna sync my carbs but ... wanna ride GMR with people I haven't seen in a long time even more.

How late is this stuff gonna be going on? If I get done early enough I could shoot over there to Mikes.

Well, I think we successfully rejetted Dave Franklin's bike today...he's sporting a new Renegade high mount...sounded sweet as he left. It definitely took awhile to get there though, as Paul (motofrenzy) and Mr. Todd Hata can attest...nothing can be as much fun as just hanging around watching other people work on motorcycles, huh? Anyway, 3 1/2 hours later we did get it running...seemed to be working fine, but David will have to provide the final verdict.

Dave split, but Todd, Paul and I did a PV run...I wonder why it is that when I'm by myself I almost never encounter cars...but today there were more cars than I've ever seen on this ride. Oh well, we had a good time. Then Todd and I went to visit his "warehouse"...sweet Mother of Jesus, I've never seen so much porn in one place before!!!
