The movie `Faster´, a documentary about the MotoGP World Championship, had its international launch in Cannes during the famous festival last week. The 100 minute film was recorded during the 2002 season, featuring a unique behind-the-scenes look at the championship with a heavy focus on World Champion Valentino Rossi and American rookie John Hopkins.

`Faster´ was narrated by Ewan McGregor, star of hit movies such as Star Wars and Moulin Rouge, and the bike-mad Scottish actor rode into the premiere along the La Croisette boulevard alongside some of his MotoGP idols, including Rossi and Hopkins. Hello,

First of all, my apologies for the delay in sending out news. I will try to
give you an update every month from now on.

There's a massive amount of interest in FASTER and everybody wants to know
when they can see it or buy the DVD. We are planning to show it in cinemas
in the US in the fall and will release it on DVD soon afterwards. It will be
in cinemas in some other countries and on DVD everywhere, but we cannot give
you exact dates yet. We are working on it and I will give you news as soon
as I have it. We have a lot of offers but we're a small, independent
production company not a Hollywood studio, and global distribution is a
complicated business

I went to the British grand prix and I know that everyone inside MotoGP
wants to see FASTER out there because bike racing is a great sport and it
deserves to reach a much bigger audience, and this movie could help make
that happen. Most of all, though, it is a sport that is already followed by
millions of fans around the world like you - fans who have waited long
enough for this film. We will get it to you as soon as we possibly can.

looks like this will actually be a good movie. i know people have made comparisons to biker boys and the fast and the furious, but i think this will be different.

sure it will hype up bike racing a little bit, and throw around some technical term that sound impressing to a noob. but from the tone of that email and everything else i have seen about it, it looks like its going to stress the responsible side of the sport. and that has to be a good thing.

FASTER will be screening alongside the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show in 13 US cities over the coming months. The Cycle World Shows attract hundreds of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts and we're delighted to be bringing some extra entertainment to the event with the help of the show organizers Advanstar.

FASTER will have a stand at the show and the movie will play at a venue nearby. Tickets will be available at the FASTER stand and at the venue.

These comments about dloading the movie really irked me. I felt like I was supporting something that I would hope to see others of it's type in the future by paying to see it ...

I share the sentiment. I would much rather pay to support the movie and see it in on a good screen instead of a grainy download. Likewise I want to pay (a reasonable amount) to buy it on DVD when it's available.

No, they said that they will have them eventually.

I don't even watch racing and i enjoyed the movie ... which says a lot.

Unfortunately, the place they played it was just one of the various rooms where the bike show was and the acoustics were horrid so i couldn't understand much of what was said ... :(

But I'm planning to buy the DVD for my BF, so I can watch it again ... :)

Saw the movie, it was very informative, which I guess is the whole point of the ducumentary. I actually learned somethings about the evolution of bikes and the riding styles of racers, and how the two are related.

Like the rear tire sliding being directly associated to the knee draging, pretty neat stuff.


There was some parts I could care less for, but I'll still be getting it when the DVD comes out in March:)

Oh, and Kenny Roberts Sr was a very good(and smart) rider. He sure had alot to do with the evolution of the sport.

I second that. Watching it at home, by yourself is dull compared to seeing it with a packed crowed of other race/motorcycle fans. Can't wait to see it Friday. Me, Shandra and Illistr8ted Man will bet here for the 7:30 showing as well.

The question and answer session with the director, Kevin Shwantz and Eric Bostrom was interesting, but ran too long. The director said that probably around the fall they will be re-releasing the DVD with a bonus disc containing updated stuff (probably from the 03 season). I think I'll skip the initial DVD release in June and wait for that one.

Kurt, I was there too last nite, down in the front. I ended up leaving during the question and answer session. I didn't see you. Would have been good to see you as haven't seen you in months and months. Of course, I was at the 10:25pm show...is that the one you guys went to?

That movie is absolutely awesome! Incredible stuff. Those guys are obscenely skilled.

The movie served to just reaffirm for me everything about why I ride in the first place.

I'm also going to wait until the Fall/Holiday season re-release to buy the DVD. All the bonus footage and coverage of other riders sounds awesome. This thing is going to live in my DVD player...

went and saw a private screening of faster last night with ewan mcgregor and mark neale (the filmmaker)!
apparently right after they finished making the documentary, he continued to make a sequel. he says they will be releasing the final version of FASTER along with the one hour sequel and about 2.5 hours of additional special features on a 2-DVD set in november.

mr mcgregor recently completed a round-the-world moto trek and filmed the whole thing...he then helped produce a 7 episode documentary of the trip that will be airing on BRAVO on october 28th! everyone set your tivos!


OH, and i got two copies of the yet-to-be-released soundtrack! one i will give to someone who is willing to burn copies for anyone interested...lemme know who you are

The Mira Mesa Best Buy had about 10 copies for $23.99.

The double disc set came out on Tuesday (11/30) and should be available at most stores like that in the documentary section.

It quotes the double disc set price as the normal retail price ($26.95), it has the "Special Collector's Edition" wording on the screenshot, and it lists the "Interactive Race Footage" feature that is only available on the double disc set. Based on those three things I'm going to say yes, but I didn't get my copy from there. I actually called them to see and they couldn't tell me anything additional. It says runtime "103 minutes", but that's just for the main feature, and the back of my 2-disc set says that too.

The site is very reputable and they have something like a 30 day return policy on unopened stuff. I'm thinking it's the 2-disc set, and the shipping's free, so it's probably worth the risk, right?

I picked one up a cycle gear and the extra stuff is pretty cool. You can toggle between different race footage on different bikes (mostly Rossi and Biaggi). Some new stuff on the 2004 season and more stuff on the 4-stroke bikes.
