View Full Version : Gathering of the Masses, Saturday Sept 28
Mark your calendar/dayplanner/palm pilots! Saturday, September 28 will be our first "Gathering of the Masses". If you ride an SV, you MUST come out and meet other SV riders in Southern California! Kick back and enjoy a BBQ, work on your bike, and plan for a leisurely cruise. We are meeting at Gregg's place at Murrieta, midway between LA and SD. Please click here (http://www.socalsvriders.com/gathering.php) to register. Don't miss it!
*The Gathering of the Masses* will be held at Gregg's home in Murrieta, CA. It will be a fun day of food, people and possibly a group ride. Whether or not we ride depends on how big the group ends up being. We are hoping to get a very large turnout so we can meet all of our fellow SVers and put a face to these names we see every day on the forums. Basically it is an excuse for all of us to get together and socialize. So, bring a friend, even if they don't ride an SV, but even better if they do! I'll see you there!

...is anyone leaving from the Santa Clarita/San Fernando/Conejo Valley area? I thought it might be a good/fun idea to travel down in a group ride as that might be more fun than droning along the 210/15 for 3 hours solo. If anyone is interested, just post here and we can tighten things up as we get closer.

...which is 1/2 way between L.A. and San Diego on the 15 freeway. From the San Fernando Valley it's about 2-21/2 hours. Are you in Tracy? THAT would quite the hike....

Well I just moved to Tracy about a year ago. Grew up in the San fernando valley and in Valencia. I even bought my bike in Saugus. I think I will come down. So I would be interested in tagging along with you, if thats ok. Just went to Norcalsvriders gathering last sunday and it was a good turn out. about 45 bikes, 85 good people, learned some new stuff. I want to see how big this one is going to be.

..I live in Castaic, grew up in the San Fernando Valley, and bought my bike ( Which appears to be the same one you bought ) at the same dealership. You are more than welcome to join. The only knot in the plans might be if I am traveling on business at that time, but things look good so far.

Gregg,
I was wondering if anyone will be there that is able to sync carbs? I believe I am running rich due to the purple colorization of my header #1 cylinder and the smell of gas when it starts up.
thanks

Yes there will be a number of us here that can help you wiht the carb sync and tuning. Have you jetted the bike?
The purple colorization is more likely to be from running lean....
The gas smell... does it go away when you turn of the choke?
Lean bikes run hot. (hence the change in color on the pipe)
Bikes that are tuned a bit on the rich side tend to run much cooler. Less likely to cause the header to discolor. That is unless you are running really rich and are getting excessive backfires and such. THe unspent gasses burning in the exhaust could cause it. But not likely.

September 28th - Can I come too..? Please?
I would be coming from H.B., so anyone who would let me tag along I appreciate it, Im not the most experienced on the freeway ( I guess I will try to get on it before then). Let me know...
BTW, to get to the 15 I take 405-55-91 or the 261 to 91-15, can anyone tell me the best way to get to Murrietta?

Assuming you don't piss me off between now and the 28th of September, you can go down there with me:D . There are several ways to get to the 15. The most direct is through Ortega (74), but unless you go early in the morning you'll get stuck behind cars. Probably the fastest way to get to Murrietta is to take the 91 out to the 15, but that was is real boring. So you can pick your poison.

I'm going to be heading over the Ortega... And I'm sure I'll convince Kurt and Leigh to do the same... You're welcome to join us...

This might be a dumb question, but is this an SV only thing?
My usual riding buddy has a Ducati 750SS, would he be welcome?
what about my inline squid friends?
Gmoney
Wed 8/28/02, 11:04PM
He's welcome but its a $20 cover charge to all inline squids. you can just paypal me the money.
The more bikes the better! i dont think anyone will mind.

I object!!! No inline's unless they are riding a 929 and will let me take the bike for a ride.. :D
Seriously tho... We have a few *SoCalSVRiders* who don't ride SV's so I don't see why it would be a problem for your buddies to come.
UPDATE: As much as I would love to be able to feed everyone, I cannot afford to cover the cost of the BBQ, and since we will all be on bikes a potluck type of deal is not likely. So, here is the deal.....
Everyone plan on $10 per person for food and drink. I will cover the cost up front and get everything ready, I just want to make sure I am not left with the bill.

Ironically, my only friend with a 929 lives in Murrietta.....not that he'd let anyone ride his sweetheart.
So, how many people are expected?

10 bux is cool...

hehe his name wouldn't happen to be Bill Fate would it? Bill is my neighbor. Rides a 929, let me ride it once, but I have not had a chance to ride one(929) in the canyons. I think the 929 could very well be the next bike I get once the SV is all used up.
Not sure on how many are expected tho, I do know of at least two that are coming from up north and one from Arizona. I would imagine all of the regulars from this board will be there. Afterall we have given more than enough advanced notice so everyone can clear their schedules for that day.

"Clear their schedules" is that how this board relays "begging the wife for permission"...? Uh oh, here comes the misses....
Burst

Beg for permission? hahaha! If you have to ask the wife for permission maybe you should just go sell the bike now and buy a minivan. Just get it over with, it will happen sooner or later. :D

MINIVAN??? oh man, thats the kiss of death... I'm not married (yet) but when I am, my wife will either ride (hoepfully), or accept the fact that I may disappear from time to time on the bike!
~OR~
She will only allow me to ride after the grass is mowed, the dishes are done, and the theres nothing else at the moment that she woudl liek for me to do... (most likely)...

That is married life my friend. :D Tho, it really isn't a matter of asking permission to ride before those *honeydo's* are finished. It is a matter of whether or not you want to listen to the hours of nagging that will take place when you get back from your ride, because you *only do the things that YOU want to do*. hehehe

Well, yes and no. It only got worse when I got a bike. :D Now I hear it all the time..... I wonder why that is.
Maybe it is because my wife sees the bike as *the other woman*.

See, you are gonna get it even worse than I did. I bought the diamond AND a house first.... Next time the wife starts nagging I'll have to remember to bring up those two points. Afterall they are valid. aren't they? ;)

Getting the SV was the last blow to the little wifey. She finally said I need to get rid of one. The oldest one will have to go. I've been buying a selling bikes for some time now, and I make out pretty good. She doesn't do the honey-do thing before I can go ride, because I come home happy and smiling.
We got the home equity LC and I got two bikes. Now I don't have much defense when she says she wants something. I get a lot of ribbing, but she want's me to have whatever I want. Second marriages are always better. :D
Marriage is a great instituion. As long as you don't mind living in an institution.
BTW, we're off-topic for the "gathering".
Do I need an invitation or will I be out of place if I just show up for it??
No invitation necessary. Every registered member of the forum will be getting an email in the next couple of days. I will need everyone to <a href=/gathering.php>confirm their attendance</a> so I can plan the food situation.
