View Full Version : Should votes show as a new post?

Paul,
Why is it that every morning when I log in, this thread (http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3147) shows up as having new responses, even though there haven't been any new posts?

Everytime a vote is casted, it bumps the thread. A vote counts as a response, no? And how are you "logging in", I hope you use

http://www.socalsvriders.com/

Oh, I see... That would explain it then... Any way to turn off the feature that bumps when a vote is casted? I don't see that new votes would warrant a new view... I could be wrong though...

And I log into http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums directly and the cookie logs me in :)

Most (9 out of 10) people use http://www.socalsvriders.com instead of the forums as their index page (even I do, and it's a lot simpler to navigate and see what's new, plus there's some neat information that gets posted there that may not be accessible in the forums). Less clicks to get to things.

Thus, some older polls, even while active, aren't being seen in the latest discussion list, and eventually forgotten. If people still vote on it, it should still count as a response, and be brought up for attention. Saves people from replying to it in order to bump it.

maybe we should vote to see if the vote should count:D

Each vote does change the percent split.

May all your niggles be as worrisome as this one. :o

I think it'd be nice if the board didn't consider a vote a new post... that's just annoying.

*GE, since you have admin. access please move your post to this thread regarding votes: http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3370

Thanks,

Hello Moderator,

I'm not sure how long ago you posted this, but I am just finding it now, thanks to the "Sistas" thread, and then only because someone actually replied to me, rather than editing my post and adding a comment.

I'll agree that my post does belong in that thread, but if you really want to move my post, then you should do it yourself. And if you want me to see your reply, then you should respond yourself, rather than editing my post; I know what I said, I have no reason to reread my own post for changes that I didn't make. And since this is a poll thread, if the last post is by me, then I'm going to grumble and not look.

I log in to the home page, then after a once over of the PotW and chatterbox, I hit the forums link up top...

I generally prefer to do it that way, even if it is a bit slower, because I can see if a thread has changed but cookie issues marked it read for me, and I can avoid forums I don't want to read.

I don't mind the thread getting bumped, but I usually just click anything with the new post link, and it gets real old seeing that one post by gizmo, or the post by setter over and over and over and over again.

Yeah, there is a response to the thread, but there isn't a new post, and that's what the icon is for.

Should votes in a thread show as a new post, complete with the "go to first new post" icon (which actually points to the old last post you have probably already read a couple dozen times)?

Two options. Don't care? Don't vote.

Dude, only administrators can move posts as far as I can tell. I only have "super moderator" status so I can just edit stuff.:D

If I can move one post at a time, I don't have any idea how to do it... last I tried, I deleted an entire thread (sorry tiller)... luckilly there was only one real response in it...

Well then I guess that wizardry should be left to Paul. :D

The irony of this is that I voted no to votes bumping threads, but it moved this thread to the front page anyway. #-o

that's not ironic you dumbass!

everyone knows ironic is when it rains on your wedding day

or when there's a traffic jam when you're already late
or a no smoking sign on your cigarette break

They say it's good luck if it rains on your wedding day...

Of course, I have a buddy... We all HATE his wife... It rained the three days before his wedding, and the two days afterwards... But not the day of...

Is that a bad omen, then? :D

That stuff isn't irony, that's misfortune. Don't take grammar lessons from a Canadian.

Good one Kurt... you are right... Morrisett is wrong... but is she??

She say, " Isn't it ironic?? "

The answer is NO

In any case, this thread gives me a case of the giggles everytime it comes up.....

I continue to be amazed that anyone gives a damn.
