As promised, all the 2002 season WSB race videos and all the 2003 season race videos (so far) are available for you ungrateful bastards to download. If you want a CD with a couple races, PM/email/leave a message on the chatter box (http://www.socalsvriders.com/) for me. You can either mail me blank CDRs with return postage, pick them up from me, or donate (http://www.socalsvriders.com/shop/) whatever you think is appropriate. Even though the download will be slow (<8kBps), it's better than nothing.

All races in XviD (http://www.xvid.org/) (Download codec (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html)) format. FTP "resume" is supported in case of disconnection during the download.

Hey, just wanted to drop by here and say "hi". This is going to be a mighty busy weekend, got 5 races to record. Already got race 1 of Fontana encoded. If i get bored on Monday i might even dig through my old tapes and figure out what races from 2002 we are missing and get them uploaded. Right now I am on track for my bandwidth for hosting so by the end of the month i should have gobs of bandwidth left over.

I can't handle too many incoming connections. There's always someone on my ftp 24/7. I think it's faster just to snail mail the races on CDs.

mine is always up (and lately its under used). i have it set to 3 concurrent logins capped at about 40K/s each. only normally have 1-2 ppl on there at any time. keep an eye out on that thread i posted above, ill put the movies up there when i first put them out. i have a dedicated server where i put the videos too, however i had to break the links because i was using 5x what my avg should be.

and yes...ill be capturing 250GP and MotoGP from noon - 2pm EST. but will likely put off capturing WSBK until 9-11pm and put those up on Monday so that i can get the MotoGP and 250GP up for consumption.

I got it off rseffco's site and made it available through Kazaa, hopefully that'll ease some of the load.

Oh, btw, I saw a question in the cycleforums thread about why people were having issues getting into your old "2003 Races" folder, and the issue was the space in the directory name... Clients tried to change to "2003" instead of "2003 Races". It isn't an issue now that you've changed the directory names, but I figured I'd answer that one for you, if you didn't know.

I kept the file names the same, and something similar for the kazaa description... If you look for superbike and/or motogp, I don't see any reason you wouldn't find them.

Which site is faster? I noticed the socalsvriders ftp took overnight to download a 330 MB file, on my cable modem (so I know it's not my side slowing it down)...

videos.socalsvriders.com is my own home PC off of a dsl. I have to cap the transfer rate, otherwise I can't use it.

rseffco's ftp is his own cable, and I think it's much faster than my dsl upload. Still, not even close to the speeds from his squidville.com/rackshack.net server.

I've gotta say thanks again to rseffco for providing this. He's truly one of a kind in the sportbike world.

i move my cap around as i see fit...i have limit of 3 sends, i vary the rate per send anywhere from 6k to no limit. I'll set it to 6k per send if im going to play a game, or ill move it up to no limit if there is only one person on. Probably have the best success for speed from mine since i have the largest amount of available bandwidth.

For some reason, I can never seem to d/l a full video from your site... I use the command prompt version of ftp, which doesn't work too well, especially since for some reason the internet explorer version doesn't work (for either FTP site)...

Anyone have ideas here for WinXP?

try something like FlashFXP...good proggie and it allows resumes.

It's in XVID format, not DIVX. Are you sure you have the right set of codecs? And besides, you live around the corner from me. Isn't it faster just to ask me to burn you a CD without tying up resources for other people who are far from me?

Login info hasn't changed. Once the maximum allowed users are downloading, you won't be able to log on. Try some of those other ftp's (and maybe use an ftp client, like MacFetch, CuteFTP, FlashFXP, other than your web browser, so you can see error messages better).

Jgy, I take it you're using a web browser and double-clicking on the file? It won't work that way...

You'll either have to get a free program, like WS_FTP (from www.download.com) or have someone burn the discs for ya.

Don't waste your time downloading the vids, they're too large, and there's no guarantee that the connection will remain open throughout the download process.

If you are using a web browser, on a PC, try "right click" on the file/video, then either "save target as..." or "copy to folder".

Afterwards (like 12 hours, a lot faster if I just burn you a copy), use your favorite media player that has the xvid codec installed to watch it.

How much bandwidth ya got?

As far as FTP server, I think the easiest one to install and configure is WAR FTPD...a free ftp server for Windows (XP included).

Is it fairly secure? I had set up my PC a while back for a web site, and I don't know if it was something I did, or some sort of attack from outside, but I lost everything on my drive...

BulletProof is where its at...for me at least. I would suggest just doing the same thing that our current mirrors do, that is use username/password of mc/mc and disable anonymous logins.

Many of the good CD burning programs (Nero, Easy CD, etc) have backup software already included. If you're on Windows NT, 2000, or XP, there's a backup program already in the operating system. Click on PROGRAMS -> ACCESSORIES -> SYSTEM TOOLS -> BACKUP

You can select whatever files/folders to back up and it will create a compressed file that you can burn to disc or back up to tape.

I don't believe it has the capability to do so. It's really a light version of Veritas NetBackup.

You'll have to create backup sets that don't exceed 700MB (or 650MB for regular CD's). Don't forget that the backup program compresses the data, so you can actually go beyond 700MB but still have the finalized file fit on a CD. I know, pain in the butt...especially if you have lots of stuff to back up. But, it's a pretty good program.

I have to feel sorry for Chris Peris and his dad. They've got to be feeling pretty damn bad after oiling the track like that. He used to race at Willow Springs in the winter months pretty regularly.

i am encoding now...thanks for all the hard work ya put in. but is it me or is the audio horribly out of sync? seems like it was cut halfway and spliced into the beginning of the vid. it's the same w/ WSS i d/led. i guess ya encoded off a tape eh?

I couldn't watch either of the GP races because they were so out of sync... MotoGP was the worst... It starts off with audio from lap two, which you don't see for like five minutes or so.

BTW my mirror is currently down... I'm not sure why, but even without the FTP being served, my bandwidth at my apartment really sucks...

Ok guys, I am going to try something new this month. I am going to put links to all the movies up. The only catch is that they will need to be downloaded through a java plugin. there will be pop ups but you can just close those few pop ups out and download the movies.

These new links will allow me to control the number of downloads per race and such which should allow me to control my bandwidth more efficiently. Additionally it will allow me to block linking from non-approved sites. there are a total of 3 sites that can be linked from, coming from another site and you wont be able to access. Wow, the MotoGP Race at Phillips Island was one of the most tense of the season... Troy's crash was scarey, anyone know what caused it? Word is that he was cleared at the hospital and back out at the track that evening to celebrate with the rest of the guys...
