Hey guys, when does the action die down on Sundays? 11am? Sooner?

I'll be bringing a video camera to Ortega next Sunday, Nov. 16th. The last time I went, there were just too many wheelies to not capture on video.

Also, if anyone can think of a reason NOT to bring a camera, please state your reason. Do the cops hate that shit? etc...

Sry to say, Oretega NEVER dies down on sundays. The serious sport bikers will be out there from 6a.m. till say 9.a.m. or so, then you get the cruisers, who like to take it nice.............and...............slow........... ....Then, you'll get the cager traffic returing from Lake Elsinore after that. Saturday is the best day to ride it. But, I cant think of a reason NOT to bring a camera, other than the double fine zone impsed while your still in Orange County:)

.....until about noon............you have the sport bikers.......

.....from about noon on...............it's pretty much all cruisers.......

.....

.....if the cops show up....it's usually about 9 am............

....and 10 am or 11 am is usually when traffic gets ridiculous.....

....so your best bet for good sporty action.........is between 7 and 9 am.............................but if there are no cops.....it'll last until about 11 am.....

Who knows these days, people might get mad at me for bringing a camera because it instigates showing off, which makes crashing more probable. In todays society, everything is so politically correct, I'd hate to have words with someone for telling me I made some sportbiker crash because of my camera. It doesn't make sense these days, so I ask just in case I'm not thinking of every aspect.

If Saturday is better, I'll go Saturday then. Gonna look retaded with a sportbike on a turnout with a camera in hand. :cool:

.....it will be closed.............but additional vague info from the signs hinted towards only the Orange County side will be closed...

...not sure though.....

...so the "Look Out".....and "Hells Kitchen".....may still be open for bussiness.............but you west siders will probably have to take the long way around to the east side.....

i just read a news release that ortega is closed 3 miles east of 5. cal trans actually closed it at antonio for everyone but local traffic. however, access east of the work zone is available from riverside county.

Well, I just got back, and it was great! My first on some real twisties. It wasn't too crowded. I took it easy; just starting to get the hang of it. We went up and back about 3 times.

Definitely another step for me. I enjoyed it very much.

I went down to Ortega today, A whole crap load of people, one CHP Officer, and it started to get misty at the top. Not too much fun. I think I'll head back up to Malibu next ride.

Work to start Wednesday on Ortega Highway improvements

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – Construction crews will take to the Ortega (74)
Highway beginning as early as Wednesday to add $3.8 million in safety
features to the windy and sometimes-deadly road.

The work, on an eight-mile section of Ortega on San Juan Capistrano's
eastern edge will mean closures to all but residents who live and work on
the to-be-improved stretch, from Christianitos Road to the San Juan Creek
Bridge.

Starting Monday, the road will be closed when construction is under way.

Ortega will close at 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and open at 5 a.m. on
those days, said Yvonne Washington, a spokeswoman for the California
Department of Transportation. It will close at 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays
and open at 8 a.m. those days.

Caltrans will add shoulders as room allows, improve striping, add "rumble
strips'' that make noise when tires run over them to warn drivers they are
straying out of their lanes, and improve signs. Also, Caltrans will improve
Ortega's drainage and replace damaged metal guards.

There will be crews working all seven weekdays. Work is scheduled to take
65 days.

Message boards will be placed on Ortega before motorists get to the work
area to remind them they must take detours during the work hours. In Orange
County, a message board will be on Ortega at Antonio Parkway/La Pata Avenue.

There was another article in the Register saying that the city counsel did not want to approve the construction as the cost was too high for the benefit.

Anyone who travels this road on a regular basis know what is really going on? Setter?

I rode this on Sunday and did see all of the Cal Trans signs and notices stating that they are closing the road for Maintenance as stated in the press release.

Unless something changed from then to now, looks like the work is a go.

I live 30 secs. from bottom of Ortega. I ride about three nights a week after 8:00pm. It closes to thru traffic!!!! Meaning little or no traffic!!!
