View Full Version : SD Ride, Saturday 8/17
We will be riding Hwy 94 East and up Sunrise Highway to Julian. Palomar will be optional for those who just can't enough.
This will be a ride suitable for riders of all levels, though you should be comfortable on freeways. As usual, ride your own ride. Don't let other people push your comfort level (let them pass).
Meet 9AM at the Edwards Theater off 94:

Palomar! Palomar! Palomar!
Nah, wherever is cool with me. I just ordered my fork springs so hopefully I'll have them installed by the weekend and I'll be able to try them out.
How bout including Banner Grade somehow? That was a nice road.
Ya, Renegades are usually slip-ons.
Julian might be kinda busy. Let's plan for an EARLY ride. We could even do the Julian Fire fundraiser... hmm...
Julian Fire Fundraiser
Motorcycle ride to benefit those affected by the Julian fire.
San Diego motorcyclists are some of the most frequent visitors to Julian and the surrounding area. We all enjoy the beautiful riding up to and around Julian. The residents and merchants have always welcomed us with open arms. Now it is time for us to step up and give something back to their community.
There will be an all brands motorcycle rally, Saturday August 17, 2002.
All riders, all clubs and groups are invited to meet at their usual
gathering places around the county. We will all meet in downtown Ramona. We will leave as a group at 12 noon, on August 17th and ride to Julian together. Representatives of the Pines Fire Relief Fund will be on hand to accept monetary donations and welcome the riders to Julian.
For motorcyclists unable to make the ride but wishing to make a donation please contact Valley Independent Bank, PO Box 1897, Julian, CA 92036. Please write Pine Fire Relief Fund on your check.
Join us to help support our East county friends and neighbors.

I might be able to go. I don't know about Palamar but i could ride around Otay lakes for a little. I'm leaving for 3 weeks to Fallon on sunday and would like to get a little time in. By the way, Paul, i need to talk to you sometime this week about getting those parts from you. The bike rides fine but the right peg is at a little slant and i feel like my foot is going to slide off during a HARD Right. Anyway, what time are you guys talk'n about???????????
Let's do 94 east, and up Sunrise Hwy or 79 to Julian - Banner Grade (fire is out yay!). Meet 9AM at the Edwards on 94:

merge on Hwy 79 and continue on to Julian, Hwy 78,
ride Banner Grade (6 miles, east of Julian),
stop in Julian or Santa Ysabel for a snack or brunch,
split group into two,
1. Group Return to SD:
follow 79-78-67 into Ramona,
take Highland Valley Rd to I-15.
2. Group Continue to Palomar:
at Santa Ysabel, go north on 79, left on 76 towards Palomar Mt,
go up East Grade Rd (fast side), down South Grade Rd (tight side), stopping at Mother's Kitchen in between,

Is the Edwards Theater the one by TGIF when 94 turns into old 94??? I would love to go so count me in I just don't want to be waiting in the wrong spot.

It's about 3 stoplights east from where 94 changes from a Freeway to surface street and where it makes a right turn. The theater is on your left after you make the right. There's a map in the first post to illustrate the location. It's hard to miss. Not sure if there's a TGIF there...

That's a long ride. I have to get my KTM from NCY in Escondido ( 600 mile service ), I might meet you guys at Mother's.
Tom are you riding Saturday, did the goodies you order come in?
I put a Superbike bend on my bike ( 3 " wider, lower, less pullback ) and some new grips. I like it.

Jeff yeah i'm going. You should too!! After the ride splits off, I'll meet you at Palomar if your going.
Yeah the goodies came in. I gots, frame sliders, suburban type 2 bars, k&n and jett kit. I installed everything yesterday. Bad part was that I was sitting on the bike checking out the bars and forgot that I put the kickstand up, you guessed it, I dropped the bike! :monkey: Thank god I put the frame sliders on because the only thing I damaged was a slighty bend clutch lever.
I want to check out your bars. So far the suburbans feel really good but I don't like them as much in stop and go traffic. They feel great though in the turns and on the freeway.
Thanks everyone for coming! It was a fun ride, wasn't it? Kinda eerie seeing the black scorched earth on Sunrise Hwy...
Sorry I was kinda out of it... still recovering from spending the whole day at Willow Springs on Friday.

Yeah, another great fun ride. Nice seeing everyone.
On the way back, me and Jeff rode Mesa grande road. Very fun.
Going through the trees makes the sensation of speed even greater...
