Burst
Tue 8/13/02, 2:48PM
Who will be attending? Please post a confirmation here. Since we are all meeting at the Shell station I would hate to leave thinking everyone was there and end up leaving someone behind.

Also, if you should show up late, call my cell (909-764-4843) for directions from the Shell station....

The Wrenchfest will be held at Gregg's house, located in Murrieta.

Directions:

Meet Gregg at the Shell station in Murrieta @ 9:00 am.
Take the 15 towards Temecula/Murrieta
Exit at California Oaks Rd.
Go east. Shortly after you turn east on Cal Oaks, on the left, there is a Shell station (next to Burger King)
We will meet at the Shell.

I will be able to come. But I have the following questions:

1) How conceivable is it that I'd be able to do my springs & fork oil? Would there be enough time for everyone to share the necessary equipment, or does it look like there's too many people as it is? I have a torque wrench but little else.

2) Since I already have adjustable preload, do I really need to modify/cut the spacers to match with the new springs?

3) What about doing fork seals at the same time, do you think that's necessary with 4,800 miles (mostly highway)? Does it add any time to the springs/fork job?

ward
Tue 8/13/02, 5:12PM
I'd like to get my fork oil swapped out, I'm a heavy guy so I might even ask if there's a 25 wt fork oil?? also how much fork oil should I buy????

thanks!

bwarbiany
Tue 8/13/02, 5:19PM
Ward,
You're not that heavy... You'll be fine with 20wt...

Me, OTOH... :D

We SHOULD have enough time for everyone to get their work done.

Dillweed, you should have received new spacers with the springs. And yes, they do need to be cut. Do you need new fork seals? I don't know, all I do know is that I am at 14,500 miles and the seals are just fine. I would leave them alone.

Ward, I forget what the actual size of the bottle was, but I got two bottles of oil, they were smaller than a quart. I think they were actaully intended to be just enough for one fork tube. When I was done with the swap there was literally less than a half ounce of oil left in each container.
Anyone know exactly how much oil is needed for the forks?

Tue 8/13/02, 5:39PM
I would really like to go and change my fork oil.. Is anyone leaving from the San Diego area and want to ride up there together. I live in East County if that helps with a meeting place.

Is that the kind of job we can do? Or is there some kind of special tool we need (like a miter box) in order to make the cut exactly straight? I haven't seen them yet so I don't know what they look like.

I'll be there ...

The only things I wanna do is sync my carbs and change my coolant out (assuming i've got $ to get coolant).

I was thinking about swapping out my brake fluid as well ... not sure how much of a deal that is tho'... and am gonna do some adjusting w/my clutch cable down below to see if I can get the clutch to disengage totally.

I'll probably tighten my chain before then ... I'll try and remember to bring tools so that I can sit in a corner by myself and be selfish ... ;)

Burst
Tue 8/13/02, 6:44PM
now now kids, there will be no selfish behavior at my house. Everyone must play nice. Otherwise there will be some time-outs to be handed down..... :geek:

Dillweed, no problem. I've got a hacksaw and a bench sander with a square. That is all we need.

Oh yea, WHO HAS A SYNC TOOL WE CAN USE??????

When I did mine, I just used one quart for both fork tubes. I even overflowed one, and still had some leftover. Plus the oil I sucked out to set the level to 5in from the top.

Cool, then I'm game. I guess I should jsut get the springs and pass on the Gold Valve emulators for now, since they require some special drilling work.....has anybody done that themsleves?

Tue 8/13/02, 7:56PM
But not until later in the morning ....... or afternoon.

I'm gonna hang at the Ortega for a while........ probably till 11 or noon......... unless there are just too many cops. I'll call before I head over. "Vipman" will be coming with me, so he tells me.

Might come earlier............ depends on Vipmans' schedule.

(sniffles)

I'm going to be using someone else's tools, so I really don't want them to get lost, or mixed up w/someone elses which is why I'd be trying to keep them to myself. (i'll probably mark them with tape, JUST IN CASE someone needs one and i'm not using it)

I'm going to bring some brake fluid that Aaron bought, I told him I'd just pay him back for it. He said he paid $10 for it ... Kurt and I both are going to change our brake fluid, so if anyone else is interested in doing this, there should be enough. Once it's opened, it's got to be used.

ersigh
Tue 8/13/02, 10:43PM
Someone should bring some work rag type things too ... and I'll try to remember to bring my table cloth thing I use for when I do oil changes and what not.

Everyone should come prepared with all the parts they need (ie, oil, filters, springs, cables, jets, etc). Bring some tools as well, especially if it's uncommon (ie, filter removal cap, extensions, torque wrench, carb sync stick, dremmel, etc).

BTW, it's a good idea to shim your needles and/or rejet even if you don't have an aftermarket pipe.

Burst
Wed 8/14/02, 10:08AM
If someone could bring a fairly complete metric socket set that'd be great. I have a torque wrench so that is not a big deal. I also have the Suzuki oil filter wrench if anyone is going to be doing an oil change. I have some metric sockets but my set is rather sparse.....

ersigh
Wed 8/14/02, 10:53AM
I'll be bringing a decent set. I'll mark em' then I don't have to worry.

There is a place nearby that I can get coolant, right? (wait that's a stupid question, i know there is)

Mark might join me on the way over. He broke a rib recently and is not sure if he can do the ride, but he wants to ... maybe I'll talk him into bringing his truck if he can't ride. Will make bringing tools and what not much easier.

Burst
Wed 8/14/02, 10:56AM

I'm really looking froward to this. I'll be bringing a nice torque wrench, a jack in case anyone needs it, and some extra sockets & shit like that. Let me know if some beer would come in handy too

Burst
Wed 8/14/02, 5:27PM
damn dillweed, are you truckin your bike up to my place? Don't worry about the jack... I have one and some jackstands. My neighbor also has another jack in case we need more than one.

You did see Leighs name on that list right?
Aside from her there are no other females on that list. There may be a few stopping by later in the day. But that all depends on what time they finish their *No Pee Pee Ride*, meaning, a bunch of chics are going riding without the guys this weekend....

PS - Anyone who's never rejetted, do so. Aussie's bike had the fuel screws *0* turns out... They should be about 2 1/2 turns... Not good, and Suzuki hasn't been good about setting them up right on any SV I've heard of.

Leigh,
What's going on with your electrical problems... Still exhibiting the same symptoms? Did you reconnect the starter to test? This is something if you bitch at Suzuki, they gotta replace in warranty... If you have to, get the rep's number from the shop you're going to, and call him...

Brad

ersigh
Mon 8/19/02, 3:37PM
I made an appt to have it looked at today but I flaked.

They are going to charge me $60 to diagnose it. They don't want to do the work on it because they probably won't be able to get the necessary parts for it before I leave for norcal. This was w/the place Aussie suggested ... I'm going to try OC Suzuki again tomorrow. I might just pay for the diagnosis, to at least know what's going on with it, so that I can get it fixed in norcal.

I haven't ridden it today. I've spent most of the day sleeping and being pissed off ... (stupid bike).

36x48 size posters are available of Leighs BUTT.

Framed in glass is extra.

You know ... making my ass bigger is not going to help ... I think there is more than enough as it is ... making it HUGER than HUGE will just scare people away ...

How about wallet sizes?? :D

You have to understand, I do not generally see Kurt's posts ... they sort of don't exist ... if they did, I'd have to constantly be controlling urges to say stuff I shouldn't say.

I don't even know what he could be saying in regards to that unless he wants a poster or wallet sized snap shot ...?
