Okay..how many of you people actually went out and saw this movie. I saw that they were the #1 takers this weekend at the box office and quite surpised.

So..spit it out..who went, why and what did you think?

I saw it... Cheesy plot, the special effects were mediocre at best...

I liked it.

*quasi-spoiler*

In my opinion, the plot was consistent with other Freddie/Jason movies. Not sure what everybody else was expecting that makes it so they didn't like it, but I've been watching the Nightmare series, and a few Jason movies recently just to get ready for it... This movie fit in nicely in my opinion, and tied the two series together well.

I would say that the killings in the movie were more consistent with Jason than Freddie... When Jason kills, its over pretty quick for the victim. Freddie seems to like to play with his victim's for a while, much the way a cat toys with a mouse before it kills it. But I'm sort of thinking that was the intent... Freddie got annoyed that Jason seemed to snatch one of his victims away just as he was starting to have fun.

As far as special effects, I thought they were good... maybe could have been a little better. Jason movies always really lacked special effects. Freddie movies always were too ambitious for the whatever the current special effects levels were (so they had a real B movie feel).

All things considered, if you're talking sequels, I'd give this movie a B+. If you want to see crappy sequels, go watch the Planet of the Apes series... it looks like a couple of guys filmed the last movie in a garage. As far as a sequel (there are what, like 8 Freddie movies, and like 10 Jason Movies?), it held it together about as well as could be expected. Not perfect, but worth seeing (heck, I want to see it again).

Well, Desperado was the sequel to El Mariachi (but with a budget and a new Mariachi), so this is kinda El Mariachi 3.

I want that jacket he had in Desperado...

I didn't see Freddy vs. Jason. But "Once upon a time in Mexico" was good though IMHO, not as good as "Desperado". Unless I'm remembering "Desperado" too fondly..
And "Underworld" was OK but I thought it ripped off The Matrix and Blade quite a bit and the music sucked. (Am I the only one that hates all this new "rock"?) I guess there's just not much you can do in the Vampire/Werewolf genre that hasn't been done.

I haven't seen underworld yet, but I've been hearing people compare it to the matrix and blade for weeks... The matrix comparison has merit, since they used the same stunt crew... And I guess the blade comparison is that there are vampires, people in leather, and its dark... I haven't heard the music, so I dunno.

I saw an interview with the director and he said he knew there had to have been other vampire vs werewolves movies out there, and they looked around, but they had to go back to classic horror movies to find them...

I like to think my comparison goes a bit deeper than just the obvious similarities for both Blade and Matrix (dark, latex, vampires, slo-mo kicks, breakdance-fighting). I use them only because they are recent well known movies. I guess I was just disappointed that they didn't try to do more than "West Side Story meets Blade in the dark alleys and dance clubs of Gotham". Well, that and no nude Kate Beckinsale.
