View Full Version : 2002 SV/S Prices and Financing
hi all,
thanx to friggin paypal who put a restriciton on my account, i couldnt take deliver of the '01 SVS i won on ebay.
so, i checked out lacyclesports.com and this is what i got:
Our Internet price on the 02 F4i is currently $8,250 out the door,
$8,510 with a 3 year warranty.SV650s is $6,400 otd, GSXR 600 is $8,750 otd.
I can probably keep this price available for at least 48 hours. Our prices do constantly change with customer demand, inventory levels and sales goals.
Price includes all applicable fees, tax and registration (Ca. only).
are these prices good? is their other places i can check out in the L.A. area? thanx.

...seems to have the best local OTD price for the SVS...I assume that they would also have fairly low prices on other bikes as well. I ended up paying about $100 more at Del Amo Motorsports in Redondo Beach...they would not match the LA Cyclesports price, but they were just down the street from me.

I paid $6250 OTD from Southland Cycle in Garden Grove, and had the same offer from Tag Motorsports in Santa Ana.

went to house of motorcycles today on el cajon blvd.
i sat down with some rude salesman that would barely give me the time of day and wanted to photocopy my drivers license...pff yeah right.
anyways, I inquired about the lowest negotiable OTD price. He sat there for 5-10 minutes calculating everything and came up with an $8000 OTD price for a 2k2 Silver SVS, on "sale" from 5,500. $1500 freight and setup fee?? yeah kiss my ass. I laughed and walked out.
never going there again..
PS> this place should be changed from 4 stars to 1 star on your list.
Yeah, I went there to look at a bike and was very dissapointed when the sales guy said the USED nekkid would be $6,300 OTD!!!
I was like WTF? Are you insane? No thanks, walked out. Tho, Cecilia in the parts Dept is nice. Very helpful.

i guess they dont get too many educated consumers there. good thing we do our research:D
quincey's in elcajon wanted about 7800 otd. and the one in lemon grove wanted 7000 otd. i ended up buying from quinceys in elcajon. paid 6571 otd with the extended warrenty from the sales manager. still very rude. ohh well i think i got a good deal. dont think ill be going there for service though.

I bought mine at Spectrum Honda. It was 6 months used, and in really great shape. The guy traded it in for a Black bird. I paid $4800 otd and it still had 6 months on the warrenty. It took me walking out the door to get them to lower the price and I think the fact I had the cash in hand helped too.

I looked at Burt’s Mega Mall in Azusa. They seemed high too. I found my 2002 nekkid yellow with 1000 miles on it, 6 months old from a private party. I got 2 RF900 Shoei’s & golves, but the best part is the 5 year extended warranty - no milage! all for 5K.
I say look for someone selling privately.. DMV tax is not too bad, you can also talk the person into a receipt that says a lesser amout to save on taxes at DMV.

Hello All,
Been lurking for a while, ride a Valkyrie (for the long interstate trips), then saw a gent with his brand new SVS at the Arco AmPm on Tierrasanta blvd and it finally pushed me over the edge to get one today - Peaty, I believe it was you whom I spoke to at the gas station. Anyhow, I emailed a few local dealers with a quote I got from an LA dealer and no one would commit to a price to at least meet the quote ($6300). Surprisingly, I went to Fun Bike (I did not email them before), which I normally would not do based on word of mouth and the experiences of others, but I was genuinely impressed with my salesman, Mark Brown. He was cordial, not pushy and was very laid back, but at the same time knowledgeable and helpful. I got the the bike for $6250 OTD without any haggling or non-sense. Just do your homework, get some other quotes and the dealership will respect you as being a savy consumer. Kudos to my salesman, Mr. Brown!
hey drumrboy: that was me. congrats on the bike i know you'll love it. great job on the price is that with the extended warrenty? still a good price. be safe.

i got my '02 svs at LA Cycle Sports for $6570 oTD w/extended warranty...
I've done a few searches here, but seeing as how prices fluctuate about as often as anna kournikova's hemlines, I thought I'd beg your responses on this yet again. I have been quoted 6100 otd on a black '02 sv at Bert's and 5900 at LA Cycle sports. Should I push a little at either of those, or is there a place with lower prices (Marina Suzuki, etc...?)
All manner of thanks in advance,

I am a newby lurker here and I have been wanting a new sv for a while now. Finally after months, no, years of waiting I can finally get a bike again. Here is my question . . . I received an online quote from LA Honda/Suzuki for $6300 out the door. Is this good? I counter offered with $6000 and he hasn't responded. I was hoping to get a good deal on a blue svs before they change over. Any suggestions?
Next question . . .
Who did you all finance through and what kind of rate did you get. I really want to get a rate below 10% if possible. Thanks for all of your help and I can wait to ride again. It had been too long!

I got the impression that LA Cyclesports has a one price, no haggle policy...$6300 was the OTD they quoted me also...prices between $6000 and $6300 are pretty good from what I've heard.

Tag gave me a price of like 6800 OTD, I was like "uhh thanks" and hung up. Chaparrel had good prices on the bike iteself ($4999) but wanted 495 for freight, and another $400 for setup, and then taxes and registration. I told him I would pay $6000, but the guy got swamped and never got back to me. lacycle seems to be the best bet, and that may be where I go to get mine.

I would jump on the $6300 OTD price from LA Cycle...that was one of the best prices in town. You may be able to find lower, but don't forget that the 03's are coming soon and with their somewhat controversial styling, people who prefer the look of the 02's will be snapping them up! I wouldn't be surprised if prices on the 02's firm up a bit here as the remaining inventory gets sold off!
Hurry!!!!
(Or just wait for the '03's and get fuel injection and FZ-1 styling...)

A lot of people won't like the new SV's, so you better snap one up while you can, especially at $6300 which is a good deal! I paid $6400 and don't feel like I got ripped off at all. Remember, the dealer has to make money too, that's his profit...and $6300 is very reasonable.
Get one before someone else does, or you'll be stuck with the new design (even though I love that gorgeous orange color heh).
 Thanks for your advice. I have been e-mailing Bob from LA Honda/Suzuki and I am taking your advice. I really don't like what they did to the frame for 2003 and I want to snap up a 2002 like you said. Thanks everyone for your help. I am just waiting on financing right now:flag:

I bought my Blue SVS 2002 from La Cyclesports for $6350. (Thanks Bob!)[-( My local dealer quoted me $7195.
The only thing that was a little strange about the deal was that I was originally quoted an interest rate of 12.5%. When I got to La Cyclesports and we were closing the deal I mentioned that my local dealer who had quoted me the original $7195 had said that my interest rate would be 11.95%. They said that they would recheck the rate with Suzuki. So Suzuki comes back on the line and says the 12.5% is incorrect the interest rate for my loan will be 18.95%!!!!!
I tell them that they had better get the rate back to what they had quoted me or I was walking out the door.
They "fought" with Suzuki and talked to a "Credit Manager" who honored the original deal for 12.5%.
Suzuki and the dealers make money on the interest rate. I have an A credit rating and should have gotten a better deal. I felt like they were seeing if the lust for the new bike would override my financial common sense and I would sign a deal for the bike that would have made them a ton in interest payments.
I felt like they tried to screw me and that they did not get me the best deal on the interest rate.
Just one man's opinion

Just do what one man did to me, assume someone elses identity, and charge the shit outta his credit cards & fuck his credit up royally by trying to get as much shit on credit as possible, as quickly as possible. The best part is, for you its all free, cuz when the dude who you stole his credit goes to the police station, they will tell him what they told me, that there are over 400 identity thefts a month, and that they basically will not catch the guy who did it. SO you get the pipe, new rubber, fancy undertail and hell, another SV while you're at it...
so theres an idea....
I had "A" credit too, until some fucked up piece of shit pussy theif stole my identity and now i cant even get a fuckin mall jewelry store credit card if i wanted too.. no thanks to Equifax.. sorry.. im off an a tangent...

:D I bought my SVS from LA Cyclesports in Aug for $6700 w/xtended warr. Financed with one of my CC's for 5.9% fixed till balance is paid off. If your credit is good, shop around for a low fixed rate card.

Noticed LA Suziki have an ad in this weeks Cycle Trader for SVSs at "less than $6249 OTD". Seems like a deal to me.
Saw the new SV at the bike show. That fairing is just cheap and nasty. I think Suzuki have built the new SV down to a lower price (for them, I mean). I prefer the older model.

Is that LA Cyclesports, as they quoted me $5,850 OTD in October on an SV, I ended up buying from my local dealer for 5,800 OTD only $50 less but I'd bought a dirtbike from LA cycle sports earlier in the year and locality was the clincher this time.
Hello all,
This is my first post here, so I was hopeing you guys could give me some advice so that I can join the SV fold...
I finished my MSF this past summer, and have been looking for a bike since. From what I've read the SV650 seems like a good starter bike, while not totally ideal, it seems to fit what I want exactly.
I recently went to Orange County Suzuki, the cloest one too me and talked to the finance person. She was really nice and quoted me 6800 for an SVS and 6300 for a SV OTD. I thought these were a bit high, and was wondering what everyone has been paying for their bikes and what "market" price should be...
Also to my amazement I did a credit check and she said that I qualified for the 9.95 % rate and didn't need a cosigner ( I'm only 21 ). Is that a decent rate?
Sorry for the relatively "noobish" question, but I honestly don't have much experience with dealer haggling, much less motorcycle buying.
Thanks all.
Dan
PS I also need full gear as well, any recommendations? I'm in college so money is always a concern, but I don't want to skimp on quality. Any suggestions for a good gear for a reasonable price ( helment, jacket, gloves, anything else? )

$6300 otd for a nekkid is a fairly reasonable price. Remember its not going to hurt the dealer if they dont sell because the SV is a pretty Hot Seller. I walked out the door with helmet+02 yellow sv for 6200. Not including the financing. Plus no money down. also the new model is coming out and the reaction has been more negative than positive. (frame, new display, butt ass ugly tail end. Anyways take it what its worth, I am a newbie also. the sv was my first bike. Excellent!!! Was my reaction. I wont give it up even when I jump to my Gsxr soon. Yes remember crashing hurts in all ways physical, mental, financially. Well ride safe and tell them you want the $6300 otd with a decent helmet.

I'd take the price that they are offering, and make them throw in not only a helmet, but also a jacket and gloves. Something like a Joe Rocket leather jacket with the zipper to attach to a pair of the pants. And then just wear a pair of sturdy boots when you ride, until you get better.

Check out cycletrader.com to get a feel for new and used SV prices. I imagine many dealers are in a hurry to sell their '02 bikes before the '03 fuel-injected models show up. Also, you should be able to determine dealer invoice for a new SV650 through your insurance company or through the web.

Thu 12/19/02, 8:51AM
You can find dealer invoice on this site (I think the downloads section)...
That interest rate is good for a bike loan... I got smacked with like 18%, and I was 22 and making $65K/year at the time... But I'd try to talk them down, or get them to throw in some gear... For LA, a Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket is good, although right now it's too cold for it... Probably not bad if you layer though...

The prices are too damn high.....
Go to Chaparral..........way cheaper......
....and negotiate.........you can always go lower than what they offered.....
....shop around........gather data.......know which shop has what, and for what price.........and then use that as your leverage for negotiations......
...do the homework......look inform..............don't look ignorant, or you'll get taken............these guys are sharks.........
......
...for your info..........I got my SV nikkid for $6000 OTD..........and I rounded that figure up........
...you should be able to get it way cheaper.........since they are tryin to get rid of the 02s......to make room for the 03s.......
...good luck...
:D
PS: ...and be ready to walk away...........good negotiators are always ready to walk away...........
...I know.......simple to say, but hard to do.......

$6300 for a naked bike is too much. I just bought mine for $5800 OTD. Fair, but I didn't think that I got it as low as I might have if I'd tried harder. Study this:
Dealer Invoice Report
2002 SV 650
List Price: $5799
Dealer Cost: $4912
Dealer cost includes freight to the dealership.
Assembly Cost: $40 per Suzuki dealer price sheet
Each dealership has its own method of figuring the actual cost of assembly and preparation for sale.
Ready to Sell Cost: $4952
Dealer Holdback: This Suzuki has 3% (of list price) dealer holdback.
Holdback money is paid to Suzuki dealers in September for units that are sold between September 1
and August 31 of the previous model year. Dealers must pay Suzuki the full "Dealer Cost" price and
wait 1 to 12 months after selling the machine to receive their dealer holdback.
Wholesale Incentives: none for this model
The "Ready to sell cost" is the cost of the machine with NO PROFIT to a dealer. Dealers do not stay in
business very long by selling machines for no profit.
Many dealers charge additional fees for "Freight and Setup" over and above the selling price of the
machine. Add the "Selling Price" to the "Freight and Setup" charges and subtract the "Ready to sell
cost" to determine the PROFIT a dealer is asking to make

That sounds really high to me too. Don't deal with OC Suzuki, the guys that run it are assholes. Only go there if you need to buy parts as all the other deals in the area order from them and you have to wait a few days to get what you need. I will never buy from there. Yes, the interest rate sounds good, but shop around and try to talk them down. I got my brand new '01 SVS for $6500 out the door with the extended warranty, plus they gave me 25-30% off all my gear saving me about 200 dollars. If you are willing to go do to SD I can hook you with a friend at Fun Bike Center, the same guy that hooked me up and they have really good customer service. Goodluck.
PS: If you wait until the new '03 comes you out you may be able to get a sweet deal on an '02. I think the new ones look good too. Me? I'm holding out for a new Ninga or R6.

i got mine from an ad in craigslist.com. 2002 sv650s silver with 117 miles for $5650. included a matching arai helmet, 2 kilamanjaro jackets, gloves, lock... i thought it was a good deal. here's the catch, he got hit and they replaced a whole list of part, but they didn't give the bike a salvage title. frame and forks weren't damaged. i've had it for a month and put 500 miles on it already... it rides beautifully. perhaps i got lucky? oh, and there are a lot more ads in the bay area... i had to drive up there to pick it up. (on the back of a truck of course). take a look at these:

I disagree with the "Don't deal with OC Suzuki, the guys that run it are assholes". I bought my SVS there a couple of months ago and was very happy with price and service. Seemed like a nice bunch of people.
I paid about 6300 OTD (I traded in a bike, so it's hard to say the exact price I paid).
Talk to the owner, not the finance lady.
LA Suzuki were advertising SVSs for less than 6249 OTD in last week's Cycle Trader. Take a copy into OCS. They will match it, I'm sure.
Cheers,
Adrian.
You can try http://www.lacyclesports.com/suzukimc.htm which lists a 2002 SV for $4,795 and a 2002 SVS for $5,195.
They'll also give you OTD price if you just e-mail them.
I didn't see any 2003 stuff... :(
I'm gonna call around and hopefully see what prices I can get from competiting dealers so that OC Suzuki will meet or better it.
Hopefully I'll be able to get my SV and some gear for a decent price.
Thanks again...

Just make sure your purchase doesn't go like this...
*ring*
Hello?
Dude, they've got the silver one.
Huh?
$5499
...
...
OK, tell 'em not to sell it, I'll be there on Saturday.
*Saturday arrives*
OK, 5499 + freight, licensing, warantee, lunch, privilege of buying from us fee... that comes to 7500.
Here's my wallet, just let me know whats left...
Not that that's how my purchase went or anything... I didn't get lunch.

You paid $6300 on top of the trade in? I hope not because that is not a good deal....... SV's can be had for less than that with no trade in.

I wrote a check for $6350 for my 2002 SVS at Honda of Hollywood. That was a month ago. They have their last 2002 (blue) in stock. They said nothing else until the 2003's come out...

No, mate. I paid $2300 on top of the trade in, a mint condition '96 CBR6. Blue book trade in for the CBR was about $3500, I think.

Howdy folks,
it's been a month or two since i've been around, (damn new job), so i wanna start off with Hello, how yall doin ;) but anywho..
as a benefit from my new job i'll probably be getting a bike much sooner than i'd previously planned.. which brings forth the next two questions....
1: what's a good sized down payment on a new bike? probably a ninja 500 to start with, and the used bike market out here is about as prolific as clean air is in Phoenix ....I kinda joke with the thought of saving up the 7 grand i'd probably need, but secure in the knowledge that i can't save for crap and my desire for a bike now now now nownownownow... i'm sorta stuck...suggestions?
2: Down here in SE Arizona we have a seasonal rain (somewhere between a small flood and a drizzle) from june-aug/sept, everyday, from about 2 p-9p.. every day..
now my question is as follows...
do yall think that the local bike dealers would have deals during this time? i figure it's got to be as big a deterant to riding as the xmas season.. ..
any input would be appreciated

Why not an SV or SVS? Several used ones have been posted here for sale. You won't have to spend 7Gs.
true, even a brand spankin new one shouldnt be more than a couple hundred above 6 grand

I got my 03 for 5600 out the door (which was bullshit because I still had to pay tax) so 5950 all in all. I think that is about as low as you can get without any dealer incentives.
Paid cash for the bike... it really isn't even worth getting a quote until you walk in and tell him you are going to pay this amount take it or leave it. That tactic may keep you out of the saddle though if you are really low balling.
If you are buying something this year though... these are shitty economic times and you should be willing to pay only what you can budget for.
Screw financing though... save and save and pay cash for the bike. 7% 10% .. whatever that's a lot of money. Atleast make a big ass down payment like 3500. That'll do the trick.

When I bought the bike I put like 500 down and got 13.9% apr...
I remedied this by signing up for a credit card with a lower apr and 0% for one year, and transferred most of the bike to that...

well, honestly, what i need to do is grab some roughed up ninja but as i said, the used market out here is pretty dry and i don't really have any luck when it comes to used vehicles...
i don't really have any biker buddies i can take with so i'm kinda stuck in that regard
Any ideas? (aside from ebay.. that thought doesn't really appeal..)
Take it easy

I hope I pasted that right. These are from the for sale forum. Anyways, Chris_AZ, if these are in SoCal that's a short drive from AZ with a truck. Plus the price range is good. I think I just heard an add for Suzuki talking about low financing on their Suzuki credit card, 6% or something like that. The SVRider.com site might have some for sale too. Just a few thoughts.

Just a question for all of you? Is there no Suzuki financing in places where you buy your bike from. Up here you can get 2.4% on a gixxer and 4.8% on an sv
