View Full Version : Videos: Aftermarket Exhausts for our SVs

I'm starting to put together a section that will highlight the looks and sounds of various aftermarket exhausts available for the SV.

So far I have taken very short videos of Renegades, Leo Vince and Two Brothers (http://www.socalsvriders.com/download.php?op=viewdownload&cid=4). They are all < 1MB, so even dial-up users can watch them. I will keep this section (under "Downloads (http://www.socalsvriders.com/download.php)") updated as I meet up with more of you with my mini-DV :)

http://www.socalsvriders.com/download.php?op=viewdownload&cid=4

Hope you guys find this useful.

Yeah, thanks Paul. An exhaust will be my next mod as soon as I get some leathers. This will help me out in making my decision.

Rad. I've been planning on dropping a bunch of money I don't actually have on a new exhaust. Handy to be able to listen to a few of them all in one place. Maybe one of these days I'll make it to a ride and actually hear some of them in person.

Rodger uploaded his Yosh RS3 slip-on this afternoon. It's in the Downloads (http://www.socalsvriders.com/download.php).

Hmm... James - M4, Michelle - Micron, Brienne - Scorpion... I'll catch up with them one of these days.

Anyone got an Akrapovic?

The RS3 sounds awesome. Is re-jetting required on a Yoshi RS3 slip-on?

linp
Wed 9/4/02, 5:27PM
I'd rejet even if it's "not necessary" and even if you have a stock exhaust.

Burst
Wed 9/4/02, 5:36PM
Well, for the stock exhaust I would recommend you shim the needles and adjust the screws, but re-jetting is a bit much. You would be running a little too rich if you re-jet. That is why my bike backfires so badly.

I re-created the Leo Vince video. It's in DivX format now. About 2MB, but sounds/looks better (no cutting out at the end). MPEG is about 3 MB, kinda big for dialups to download.
I think there's something wrong with my Windows Movie Maker. It kinda sucks. I used Ulead Mediastudio for the DivX video, works better I think. What do you guys use besides Premier?

I met Brienne yesterday up at Palomar. Her Scorpion exhaust sounded real nice. Too bad I didn't bring my Digicam. I could of made an MPEG of her exhaust and uploaded it here. Just trying to help you out, Paul. :D Oh well.....

linp
Wed 9/11/02, 8:08PM
That's cool.. she's always at Palomar.

These videos seem to be a big hit. Over 100 downloads each. Honestly, they all sound the same to me -- all look/sound pretty nice. ;) Maybe owners can comment on how special their pipe is using the "Rate Resource" link below the videos?

linp
Sun 9/22/02, 7:00AM
James' M4 full-system video added. 1.15 MB in WMV format, 27 seconds. I have tested all the exhausts videos and they work fine for me. Try "right click, save as..." then play it with an updated media player if you are having problems watching them.
:) Hope to add more exhaust videos from the Gathering. Gotta have Akro, Scorpion, V+H, Holeshot, Dual Renes...

linp
Mon 9/30/02, 1:44PM
More exhausts added in our Downloads (http://www.socalsvriders.com/download.php). These are all taken during the Gathering, including Jardine, V+H, Scorpion and Yosh Tri-Oval -- each download is less than 1 meg.
Still missing Akro, Holeshot...

does the video of the scorpion pipe include when the bike was in gear and almost ran someone over???

Sadly no. You can catch a glimpse of Brienne though.

Forget a glimps of Brienne, how about that HOT guy friend of hers walking around in a tank top and shorts the whole time. Get a glimps of him? Seeing his rock hard arms and studly tatoos made me moist.:horny:

I have a clip of...Brienne?...almost running into the crowd on that little dirtbike when she discovered the brakes weren't working. Took a couple other short clips with my digital camera, but none of the others were that exciting. If Paul has some space for them, I could upload them.

Jeff-I'm thinking about putting a leo vince on my bike. So, you're happy with yours? Do you happen to know if putting the stock pipe back on (in case of a fix-it ticket) would be possible?

Opinions on the best pipe for a bit more noise (but not too much), nice style, not too expensive and maybe a bit more power?

Does a "slip on" really do that? Or is it more a "cut old pipe to bits and slip on"?

I know, probably covered over and over before, but opinions change.

TIA,
Adrian.

I've got the yosh rs-3 slip on and it sounds almost identical to the full system. And I definitely love the sound of it.

Does fitting the Yosh rs-3 slip on require the use of a hacksaw?

If not, it seems the difference between a slip on and a full system is two bits of pipe.

Any performance increase with the Yosh?

Cheers,
Adrian.

Q #1 - Yes...you have to hack off the OEM pipe right at the midpipe, which is about 2.5" back from the junction coming from the rear cylinder. It's all one piece after the headers. You will have to do this for any slip on, to my own disappointment.

Q #2 - Yes...you get about 1-2 more ponies from a full system, and shave off maybe a few pounds. All this for nearly twice the price of a slip on, which adds 6-7 ponies w/ other adjustments. The OEM headers are made by an excellent brand anyway - Suzuki.

Q #3 - Yes...significant increase without rejet. HUGE increase with.

I have a Yosh Tri-Oval...similar to the RS-3, but shaped like a triangular cigar. (Better ground clearance & unique shape/sound). I'm convinced that Yosh is the best-matched pipe you can get for any Suzuki...I didn't really need a rejet when I installed mine. (did one anyway, and WOW =P~) Burst and Buymenow were right. Getting a Yosh coupled with a rejet...there's a HUGE difference.

I gotta agree. I did all of it at the same time and was amazed at the overall performance of my SVS. And with the help of Garron (Grich4U) who had a pneumatic grinder, I got the stock pipe off pretty easily. I would recommend using something with some power to it rather than a hacksaw. I had to go through the last inch or so with a hacksaw and it was still a bitch to do. I know I've got all the power I need right now out of the pipe, rejet, and air filter. The only things really left for me when it comes to speed is new sprockets and chain.

Anyone seen, heard a Termignoni pipe on a Sv? Is it any good?

Rocko
Thu 2/6/03, 8:49PM
I may be wrong, but I think they stick to Ducatis. . .

SoloToto
Thu 2/6/03, 8:53PM
you can get a ducati 996 exhaust setup and modify it to fit the SV. Then you can get the Termignoni exhaust. The dual underseat setup looks sweet on the SV.:D

bwarbiany
Fri 2/7/03, 9:18AM
Don't bother with Termi's on an SV... If you want underseat, go Renegade. If you don't want underseat, go Yosh or Micron (or any one of the other good ones, I just like those two)...

Basicly this is what it could looks like

Because I am in Australia, some pipes are hard to get. I just went to one store and they offered me a pipe like in the pic for a good deal. But I wasn't that intrested, but it got me thinking.

Just wanted to know what people thaught.

anyone with an aluminum leo vinci ultra high mount? just curious about the passenger pegs. i'm worried that with a passenger there might be shoe/boot marks on the pipe after it gets hot... or does it get that hot?
also was wondering if anyone had a decent sound clip. i've heard the one on the web site and it's kinda lame. i want to hear it full throttle. anyone? anyone?
i tried searching and cam up nill for sounds.. maybe i wasn't looking hard enough... any help apreciated!
Thanks!

Fri 2/21/03, 9:57PM
....well FireDude....

....I have one....

....it goes on nicely under the pegs........and no...the can does not get hot at all........only the pipe sections get hot..........so no worries about your passengers' feet..........

....my only complaint is an increase in vibrations.....

....and no.....I do not have a sound clip.........but it has a low tone.....louder than stock......but not too loud.....

....if you want obnoxious loud.....then this exhaust is not for you.....

.....hope that helped...

:D

FireDude
Fri 2/21/03, 10:11PM
i'm not looking for obnoxious loud, just good performance gains and a pipe that is audible, i hear that leo vince has some of the best gains for a slip on in this price range, do correct me if i'm wrong!

Setter32
Fri 2/21/03, 10:18PM
....dunno about the gain........but then again...I can careless.....

....I just wanted to increase my clearance.....for the least amount of money.........so the Leo was it.....

....my "by the seat of my pants" dyno.........can't tell a diff......

....but I probably wouldn't be able to tell a diff with any of the other pipes either......

....it deff smooth out the throttle response......sounds good.....beaucoup clearance.........and weighs a hell of alot less than the stock......

....good enough for me.....

:D

Setter32
Fri 2/21/03, 10:26PM
....almost forgot.....

....I also replaced the stock air filter with K&N.........when I installed the pipe....

....the K&N filter may have helped in the throttle response.....

.....so if you install the pipe ......and running it with the stock filter......I dunno if you will get the same result that I did....

....and by the way..........I did not need to rejet.......

Vance and Hines Exhaust Opinion (http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45) (includes John/catpoopman's link inside)

Can't decide which exhaust to buy (http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1558)

And the videos in the Downloads (http://www.socalsvriders.com/download.php) section with videos of most aftermarket exhaust on SV

The search feature is pretty cool. Use it.

Hey all.. I'm new to the forum. Great job though.. a lot of really useful information. I have a new 2003 sv650s I'm looking at getting an after-market exhaust for it. These are my three basic options.

1) Yosh rs 3 full race system

2) Hindle full system

or 3) vance & hines aluminum sleeve

if anyone has any sound clips of these it would be greatly appreciated. I know there are mpeg's listed on this site but it won't seem to let me dl them. Thanks Again...

While it isn't the loudest pipe out there, (Devils probably are for the SV) they do have a nice rumble, sounding a bit more refined, though not subdued, compared to the coarser sound of an M4 or Micron.

At least, I have found this holds for the FI models. It's probably about the same for the carb'ed folks.

To that end, once you're going faster than 50 mph, all you can hear is the wind anyway.

Once you become an active member, Jeremy, you can download sound clips of pipes from our downloads page.

I have a Yosh tri oval full system and love the sound. It's loud enough, anything more is obnoxious IMO.

I have the RS-3 Race, and it has a deep, low sound. It's not too loud when your cruising, but can be pretty loud when you open up the throttle.:D As Kurt mentioned, check out the Downloads section for video clips when you become an active memeber.

HI!!

I'm a new member to this forum.
27 years old and live in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Just bougth a SV 650 S -01, Blue.

I'm shopping for an exhaust system and am looking for more power as well as a nice sound.

Trying to decide between a M4 full system and an Akrapovic full system.

Has anyone heard them both?... Which gives more V-twin feeling.
Any idea where I can find some sound clips??

Any input is welcome...

Anyway... it seems like the Akrapovic is a mystery there too..

I guess I'll just have to buy a system, record the sound and contribute to the collection.

Akrapovic isn't really that popular in the States because they can get Yoshimura stuff almost for free! :p

Personally i think the Akrapovic has a much better finish then the Yoshimura USA pipes. The finish of the Yoshimura Japan stuff though is equal to Akrapovic or perhaps even better...!

If you're still interested i have a Akrapovic sound file for you.

I don't know if any of them bother with DOT certification and as far as I know, that is the condition for it to be "road legal"
