...in the middle of being repaved right now. The very bottom and the very top are repaved and are bliss on two wheels. I can't wait for the whole thing to be done.

Eveything in between is kinda patchy. Some corners are already done but there is still a lot of road surface changes.

if you head out that way make a note of it's current condition here...

We took Montezuma today (up the hill), there are a few little bits not quite finished off from the resurfacing but otherwise it's in great shape, has to rank as my joint No1 road, (my other being Old Julian).

Dear Johnny,

You mean the Blue Ridge Mountains in West Virginia? Those are in West Virginia. You know, the ones John Denver sang about.
You are correct about the Rockies being in Colorado, however they stretch from Canada to Northern New Mexico. They are a discontinuous series of mountain ranges with distinct geological origins. The entire series makes up the Rocky Mountain range. So... they aren't just in CO. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle!

Your friend,
The Unit

P.S. Check out the topographical map, YO!

P.P.S. Here are the lyrics to everyones favorite John Denver song.
Almost heaven West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains Shenandoah river
Life is old there older than the trees
Younger than the mountains blowin' like a breeze

Country roads take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia mountain momma
Take me home country roads

All my memories gather round her
Miner's lady stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine teardrops in my eyes

Country roads take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia mountain momma
Take me home country roads

I hear a voice in the morning how she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
Drivin' down the road I get the feelin'
That I should been home yesterday yesterday

S22. Head from Ramona to Santa Ysabel, turn left onto the 79. About 10 miles down the road there'll be a biggish right turn that you cant miss coz it's about the only one down there (note the electrical substation on the right just before the turn and a large gravel parking spot the other side of the intersection. If you make it into Warner Springs you went too far), take that right turn and another 5 miles on there's the turn on the left for S22 which heads thru Ranchita, down Montezuma and into Borrego.
I pushed my bike (harder than I have before) the other day down there and realised that all the time I said it was smooth I was wrong, it's really godamn bumpy in patches despite the majority of it being resurfaced, stillone of my faves roads tho.

....4 months later....No, I meant the Rocky Mountains, in Colorado, like I originally stated, not sure why I never saw your attempt at dissing me before, but heres my rebutal...;

Song: Rocky Mountain High
Artist: John Denver
He was born in the summer of his twenty seventh year
coming home to a place he'd never been before.
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
you might say he found a key for ev'ry door.

When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
on the road and hangin' by a song.
But the strings already broken and he doesn't really care
it keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long.

But the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
the shadow from the starlight
is softer than a lullaby

Rocky Mountain high, Rocky Mountain high

He climbed Cathedral Mountains he saw silver clouds below
he saw ev'rything as far as you can see.
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
and he lost a friend but he kept his memory.

Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams
seeking grace in ev'ry step he takes.
His sight has turned in side himself to try and understand
the serenity of a clear blue mountain lake.

And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
talk to God and listen to the casual reply

Rocky Mountain high, Rocky Mountain high

Now his life is full of wonder but his heart still knows some fear
of a simple thing he cannot comprehend.
Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more
more people more scars up on the land.

And the Colorado Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
I know he'd be a poorer man
if he never saw an eagle fly.

Rocky Mountain high, Rocky Mountain high

It's a Colorado Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
friends around the campfire
and ev'rybody's high

Rocky Mountain high, Rocky Mountain high

Since it wasn't posted and in case you didn't know the repaving is complete!

I camped out at borrego springs last night and rode it a couple times between 5:30 and 7:00 this morning before it got too hot. not a car on the road.

it was still pretty hot at the bottom, but when i got to the ridge the cool refreshing air felt amazing.

oh and the road surface is really nice. a little dusty in one corner, but otherwise pretty flawless.

probably the best ride i've had since i started riding last november.
