Okay, as the proud owner of a PS2 finally, I have to ask...
For all of you who have a PS2, what games are worth it... What games aren't?
I know we have several threads reviewing specific games, but I figure a grouping of good & bad would help us...
I'm looking into GTA3 Vice City, MotoGP3, Riding Spirits, NCAA Football... Any thoughts?

Volley Ball Summer Heat is really fun, my roomie and I have periodic addictions to it, then well get super frustrated and not play it for a couple of months.

Basically, one needs to get one of each basic genre:
Racing: Gran Turismo 3, or MotoGP3 (MotoGP's not great)
Fighting: Soul Calibur II, or Dead or Alive 2
Sports: FIFA, Madden NFL
Anything else is up to you, like RPGs or Action titles.
Riding Spirits is freaking hard but worth getting due to all the cool "real" bikes there. MotoGP3 is worth it for the tracks. You'll really appreciate watching the races after the game.

The best way to find out what games are good is....come to my store & rent the games. I have at least 500 PS2 titles for rent....Ask POI, Kurt. They have been to my store. www.Gamesquareusa.com. One in Stanton (beach & garden grove), one in Fountain Valley ( magnolia & warner).
I would love to give you guys discounts, but I don't want my employees to think I am abusing my authority....sorry!
Just come on over and see what I can do.

ok, another question... the PS2 network adapter... Worth it?
Do you have to pay for a service to play using the network adapter, or is it free?
I'll probably get it if the service is free, but if it's like $10/month, it won't really be worth it...

Here is a site I refer to often for unbiased (at least I think they are) reviews:

You need DSL or cable modem to get the best out of the network adaptor. It's free for most of the games. As far as I remember, only Every Quest series(online RPG game) is the only one costs money.
all EA sports 2004 games, atv offroad fury 2, midnight club2, need for speed underground, socom I, II, ghost recon.....lots of good online game.
Happy gaming & safe riding!

Riding spirits sucks. Moto GP 2 & 3 are pretty good. GTA Vice City is a MUST HAVE! That game rocks! If your into racing, Gran Turismo 3 is fantastic. Splinter cell is a pretty good game too. If you like the style of gameplay in Splinter Cell you may like Metal Gear Solid 2. Twisted Metal Black is a great mulitplayer game. Most of these games listed can be bought used for like $20.

Oh shut up:p
Just kidding, I need to read what I write before I hit submit.
You can never go wrong with GTA3. Riding spirits is fun once you get down the controls. It takes a bit of time to get used to the delay, thats all. The PS2 version of MotoGP is limited as far as grapics and realism. Of course, for car racing, Gran Turismo 3.
Sometimes, I'll throw in SSX tricky to mix it up. It's pretty fun also.
I also own an x-box and MotoGP and Splinter cell are much better on it.

If you play quite a bit or at least a casual gamer like myself. I get bored of games after a few days and never seem to want to play most of them again, so buying is out of the question with me. You should check out Gamefly.com (http://www.gamefly.com) It's like 20 bucks a month and you get 2 games out at a time, much like netflicks for movies. No late fees and most of the newer titles.
BTW: tomshardware is definately biased, at least that's my experience with him in the past (he'll never admit when he's wrong, huge ego). Try several review sites and take what you want from each of them when deciding on something.

I have a PS/2. I like motoGP3, vice city, midnight club 2. The getaway was good, but I finished it quickly and haven't played it since. I am playing SOCOM right now and that's pretty cool for combat. For sports, can't go wrong with madden 2004, we have madden 2003 and tiger woods 2003 as well. tiger woods is a great one too. geez, too many games... I have two roommates so we have a variety of games. I own MotoGP3 and Vice City. The rest the other two roommies bought. OK, going back to SOCOM now... ;)

I don't have it, but I think what they do is offer it for free (the online gaming aspect, not your connection costs to the internet) for games like madden or tiger woods, but only the current version will work. Like when madden 2004 came out, 2003 would no longer work on the internet. That's how I understand it anyway.

Just to throw in my 2 cents...I really like Prince of Persia. Granted I haven't played it much (I've only played for about an hour total) but it has some really cool "stunts." The Prince can run along walls to cross "canyons" and he does some other cool acrobatic things. I thought it was fun for the short time I played it.

Since you mentioned Prince of Persia. I found this article. Buy prince of Persia and get Splinter Cell for the same platform FREE!! Oh yeah, I saw Riding Spirits at GameStop for $12 used, the game sucks but it's only $12.
San Francisco, CALIFORNIA -December 30, 2003 - Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, today announced its most impressive retail promotion ever. During the month of January, anyone who purchases Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Nintendo GameCube(tm), the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft, or the PC, will receive a copy of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell on the same platform - PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox (platinum edition), or PC - for FREE! This special offer will be available at all major retailers.
"This is huge. As a post-holiday thank-you to gamers for their continued support, we are giving away Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, last year's Game of the Year, with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which could very well be this year's Game of the Year," said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing for Ubisoft. "Millions of gamers can't be wrong, so for those who still don't own these award-winning titles, this is a can't miss offer. Ubisoft is committed to building our brands for the future, and we want both of these award-winning games in as many gamers' hands as possible."

I rented this game "speed kings" from blockbuster... Some sort of cycle squid game... I couldn't get much play time, though, 'cause it made nasty grinding noises in my ps2 and wouldn't load.
