View Full Version : Removing Suzuki sticker on the tank
Can the Suzuki logo be removed from the gas tank? Without a grinder? Beppo
it is just a sticker that gets clearcoated over at the factory. if repainting you basically have to sand it off.

...I did it the day I brought it home. It was on like a SOB. Mine was NOT under clearcoat, but I did have heart failure :-& when I saw this comment then ran to look at my tank. I, after looking at it for an hour at all angles and with a magnifying glass and studio lights, can see ZERO damage on my tank. I can't recommend it for everyone but it did clean up the look of the bike immeasurably. I just got the sticker wet and worked at it with my fingernail so as not to scratch the paint.
HTH,

Not the warning and info label on the top of the tank, the big ones on the side of the tank that say SUZUKI. The're all under the clear coat,no way to remove without repainting the tank.:D

For the warning label, I found the most effective way to get rid it, is to wreck your bike. The replacement parts don't have Warning Labels.
I actually like the Suzuki stickers, it helps me line up my tank bag.

What is behind wanting to remove the SUZUKI from the tank? This is still the only mod I see as completely worthless and way too much effort for what ever gain you were expecting.

I used some bumper sticker remover to get the warning stickers and rear SV logo's off, it worked a treat but if I'd of known how much of a pain in the butt it'd be I wouldn't of started it!!!

Goof off, Goo gone, something that get's rid of adhesive. Park one side of your bike in the sun for a half hour, but a rag over the sticker (warning labels, not Suzuki Tank) squirt on a healthy dose of Goo gone..... wait...... squirt a little more...... wait. With the edge of your fingernail peel up the corner and then slowly remove. Use Goo gone soaked rag to rub out remaining Adhesive. Repeat for the other side. Takes maybe 80 minutes for all warning stickers and really cleans up the look of the bike.

I like the sound of that! :D I might try that method to get rid of the front fairing SV logos, I nearly wore my finger nails off from continual picking away at the decals last time!

The Best way to do it is use your finger nails to get most of it off. After you have most off take some gasoline and put it on a rag. Wash and wax after you're done. Small amounts of gasoline will take off any adhesive.

I neglected to mention that brake fluid from wrecked master cylinders is excellent for taking that unsightly paint off of your fairings and tank;)

I used a heat gun on mine. That combined with the finger nail did the trick. only burnt my hand a couple times.. but only took me about 25 min to do all warning stickers. I don't think the actualy "suzuki" sticker looks bad.

the heat gun sounds the go , i used that citrus based goo stuff and it didnt work at all ... coz i later found out that the glue stuff is not glue but silicone based glue.... which wont desolve ..but it come off with much weeping and gnashing of teeth and a buggered finger nail :p

I found some great stuff (in my garage of all places) that does a great job of removing decals and sticker without harming the finish. It even worked on the gas tank sticker and did not harm the paint.
It is called 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner.
Here is a a link to a place that sells it, although I am sure you can pick it up at the hardware store.

Isn't the tank sticker clearcoated?

I meant the safety sticker, not the Suzuki decal. That one is clear-coated.

Oh, gotcha. Never noticed a safety decal.
