I put up a bunch of pix from this weekend, but am just linking the motorcycle related ones ... feel free to look around ...

All the pix ended up being just as I was going up or coming down... (http://www.am.net/troll/livejournal%20pix/09.08.02/pages/DSC06295.htm)

From this link, just go thru the next two pages (4, 5, 6) for pix while riding ...

Riding 1 (http://www.am.net/troll/livejournal%20pix/09.08.02/index_4.htm)

We rode from Santa Rosa to Healdsburg, too Skaggs out to Hwy 1, and then Hwy 1 south to 116, came inland back to home ... it was a relatively short ride ... about 4 hours.

Still a good looking wheelie. What gear were you in? Do you have to dip the clutch to get the front up?

Dip the clutch? That's the same as popping the clutch?

I don't use the clutch when doing wheelies. I have not been able to do a wheelie w/the clutch involved where I felt I was in control of the bike ... maybe once I'm not comfortable with doing wheelies, I'll try it more.

I just roll on. For me, I found that at about 3krpm i let off the throttle, put some pressure on the forks and rev again, and it comes right up ... I'm basically giving momentum to the bike rather than trying to use the momentum from the bike.

Having a small front sprocket helps, I'm sure.

Yeah, dipping the clutch...like pulling it in part way, revving, and popping it.

Err...like this (http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/detail?sectionID=50678&documentID=67882).

That's about the only way I can get the front wheel up...unless I'm going really really slow and i'm in first gear. Don't have the small front sprocket, though.

It's all about using the low end torque with our bikes. That's for sure...

I haven't tried wheeling in second. I was gonna do that this weekend ... heh.

So... Ya like Skaggs? Heheheh :D

I doubt you liked the last part towards Hwy 1, since you didn't seem to be a fan of GRR, and that road is WAY bumpier and tighter than GRR in that section... But the valley side is just so smooth :D

GRR? What's that?

I used to drive Skaggs ... didn't realize what the road was when people talked about it, because for me, it was simply one of the roads in my backyard.

The smooth part of Skaggs is OK ... it's a bit boring because it's so predictable ... it's not tight enough ... if I had a bigger bike, or at least better suspension, I think I'd enjoy it more ... at this point, when I ride at the speed I'm comfortable at, the bike is freaking out ... so I end up riding a bit slower, and just ride one handed to keep it interesting.

I liked the latter section of Skaggs close to HWY 1, not for the riding, because well, I don't really enjoy roads where there's not enough space for a car and bike to pass each other comfortably, because it's so thin.

I was hit head on by a car, I can't deny my fear of that happening again ...

But I enjoy the road because it is well, it's like home ... the best memories I have are when I was on the back of one of my parents bikes ... going under the redwoods ...

I want a motard. That road would RULE on a motard. heh.
