View Full Version : Palomar Ride, Wednesday 9/11
I got a full tank of gas, and really would like to ride tomorrow. I don't care if you're in LA or SD. I'll ride with ya.
Come on, who wants to ride?

Kurt's subtle humor is always good.. haha,
is this a memorial ride? or jsut a i have a day off ride..?
It's umm both. Tomorrow's a holiday ;) So whaddya say, Brad? I'll give you a pair of frame sliders...
 I have to bribe people to ride with me
Screw job hunting... it's been six months of averaging 3 resume submissions/day with bogus interviews here and there.
Jobless SV-er's, let's ride!

You know what's even worse? I can see the sunshine AND my SV from my office. I have to sit here in front of a computer for the rest of the day. It is torture.....

Same here... but at least the CEO is gone for the day. :D
Well, I had the whole mountain to myself. Saw Bambi when I came down from S-7/Palomar Observatory to Mother's. That road (from Mother's to Observatory) is actually not bad... very much like the fast side, except very very clean and in great condition.
That deer sure was pretty... and the butterfly
I also tried to "hook my leg/knee to the tank" and hang off a little. It felt nice and I had more weight on the inside front. Thanks Gregg for the tip! But, my death grip on the handlebar scares me sometimes... So... anyone wanna ride tomorrow? ;)

Were Trixie & Roxanne with her..?
Hey Paul, if you hang off and are not intending to put your knee down, try hugging the tank with your legs. Lean forward a bit like you are tying to touch the inside mirror with your helmet. That will help keep the bike settled and loosen your grip at the same time. I find I am much much more smooth when I do this. But then again, what works for me may not work for you. Give it a try though, I spent a few weekends in a row up there just trying different body postitions and lines to see what felt comfortable and smooth.

Yeah, what time? I'm off at 7:30am so after I get a couple hours sleep in, I'll ride. I haven't ridden since Sat. and I'm itchin' to ride.
How about 11AM at the Shell gas station on the right side of E Via Rancho Pkwy just as you exit I-15? You only need 2 hrs of sleep/day? You da man...
Well, you name the time if 11 is not cool.

Oh, I meant a few...
Realistically, like 1 or 2 o' clock. I'll let you know when I get home tomorrow. I'm going to be off until Sunday so I have plenty of time to sleep.
How about we'll meet you at Mother's whenever. I'm going to be there (as well as Dennis, on his FZR) around 11AM, and we'll ride with you in the early afternoon. Hope to see you!

Hey Paul, was cool meeting you and Dennis (and Bambi). Thanks for showing me that road to the observatory, its really nice.
How long were you two waiting at the bottom before I went by? You guys looked pretty comfortable... :D
BTW, when I got home I had a message that my replacement shifter was in. I spent the afternoon fighting locktite to get the old one off and swapped out... You have no idea what a difference that little toe-peg makes! (Like when I accidentally shifted into first and shot my bike forward about four feet before it died (thank god!))
I ran into another guy on a Silver SVS in escondido (silver helmet). He said he had just come from Palomar, too. He said he wasn't on the board, but I think he got the name, so hopefully we'll see him show up.
Hey Blake,
Nice meeting you too! Sorry we didn't get to ride for a long time. Was Palomar pretty exciting for you... got that adrenaline pumping eh? I've been working on my lines... I knew they suck, but never knew how much they SUCKED until Dennis flat out told me "You suck!" hehe... That's all I'm gonna aim for right now: good lines
Thanks for telling him about our site. I saw him coming down from the tight-side as we were going up. I thought that was Stinky. I forgot to give you some promo cards so you could give other SV-ers. Next time I won't forget...
Eventually saw Stinky on our way back to I-15. It must've been after 3pm! Damn you sleep too much ;) Sorry Elmer, we were pretty exhausted, and Dennis was out of fuel.

Yeah, I pretty much just intended to ride up and say "hi"... I had to dump off a computer at the post office, etc, etc...
Your line looked fine through to that first turn... Can't really comment after that since I didn't see you guys anymore. ;)
On Monday, when I came up the fast side and down the tight side, I didn't really see what everyone saw in it, but when I was on my way up the tight side today heeled over, listening to my tires, watching the edge of my lane get closer and closer... that was pretty sweet. I'm a fan of those "broad" right-handers at the bottom.
Too bad I probably won't get to get out there during the week for a while... I was *cough* sick today *cough*.
I've been watching the videos you posted of that slow ride up and down the mountain... I'm at least comforted by the fact that I would totally have passed that guy.
Oh, I missed the turn for the S6 toward escondido and ended up going a couple miles on the 76 before turning back... On my way back to the S6, I passed a blue SVS heading the other way with two other bikes. I sure do see a lot of those blue ones...

Hey, I got home at 8:30, what do you expect. ;) Man, when I woke up at 1pm I couldn't get out of bed. I'm surprised you guys were there that late. I didn't stay too long anyway. My rear tire is so square that my bike handles like crap. Not to mention my bald front tire. So I didn't feel comfortable at all up on Palomar. I think I had more fun splitting traffic on the way back.
