How easy is it to change the small light on the SV650s?
What would be a good bulb to use? Watts?
I changed the stock bulbs for some brighter white bulbs and would like to change the smaller light to match or possibly go blue.
Cheers.

whats the third itty bitty light for on the 2002?
You mean the little light above the main headlights on a SVS? It's the "parking light".... useful in some European countries (not sure if it's demanded by law) where alleyways are unlit, and this light makes the bike more visible. But over here, the parking light's only use is to unintentionally drain the battery .

This light appears to be missing from the '03 images...
It also makes identifying an SV in your mirror pretty easy.

It also makes it a complete rippoff of the Triumph.

Oh, I've only seen triumphs parked, so they're still good for identifying the SVS. ;)

You wouldn't happen to have run your battery down at the Mira Mesa Target several months back, would you? Saw my first silver SVS there, and it had the parking light on. Went into Target and asked them to page the owner, but no one ever showed up. *shrug*

No, fortunately it was at my house. I had been away for work for about 4-long-weeks and didn't disconect the battery. So when i got home i went on a little ride and left the parking lights on. It was so dead that Paul and i couldn't even bump-start or jump-start it. It was a sad, sad day.

How do you turn on the park light only?

Usually by accident. Just turn the key counterclockwise past the "Lock" position.
I jsut got my blue SVS.
I was thinking about mod'ing the marker light with blue LEDs.
I was wondering if I may get into trouble with cops?
Any comments?

I've heard that blue and red lighting on vehicles are reserved for police and emergency only...but can a cop write a ticket for it? I don't know. I heard zig-zags are illegal on civvie cars as well.

Zig-zags? Don't you roll joints with those?

Only white forward facing lights, and only red rear facing lights.. thats the law.. ( i got cited for having blue forward facing)..

Oh Jesus, is someone else wanting to add colored lights to their bike?

...hey, they're not just for rolling anymore!
Actually, those are the flasher units you can attach to your headlights to make them flash side to side...cool, huh?

How about "yellow" turning signals?
(Then, BLUE LED turning signals?...... or maybe WHITE LED turning signals?)
And what qualifies as a light? What if I stuck my phone in the slot between the wind-shield and the dash board?.... I have a mod up phone that is awfully bright shining out w/ blue LEDs... :-)

The legality of lights was discussed in the thread called Tire Flys and a post was put up about what is in the law regarding lights.

I have a slighty used light bar from the top of a cop car that I'd sell if someone would like to place it on their bike

I think those are called wig-wags.... not zig-zags.. ;-)
because they make your lights wig and wag...
back and forth....

Or you could say they make your lights zig and zag back and forth.

Whats the deal with the little light above the to headlights on the SVS? I think the Katana has it too.. does anyone know if it has a purpose? it makes spotting sv's easy at night though.
It's the parking light. It seems to be missing in the 2003 SVS (or has it been moved to those lights inside the main headlight housing?)
This question has been asked before,

That light looks WAY better if you put in one of those import car colored bulbs. But that's only if you've changed the headlights to Xenon units, or otherwise have bluish-white headlights. It makes a nice lil set, and is much more visible at night - [[stamp of approval]]
But yeah, it's just a parking light. (or your "Flex Your Power" headlight, depending on how you wish to look at it)

lol thanx, i searched before i asked, but it wasnt refered to as the "third headlight". i should of looked under itty bitty light. im not sure if i like the light. the front end on the svs has always reminded me of an alien or some sort of bug. granted most of the new super bikes look like hornets or some other bug. i guess thats the new look... :-?

IMO...
SV/SV1K - Big arse slug or centipede (moves like 'em too, so I've heard ). Blunt head, wider midsection, tapering to a point at the back.
SVS/TL-S/SVS1K - Praying Mantis in "eating" mode. During a wheelie, it looks like a Mantis stalking those pitiful Ducati 748s. **Desmoquattros, not the Testarettas.**
Gixxer 6/7/1K - A Bee (especially the yellow/blk ones) They hum and buzz like one, they zip like one, they just all-around fit that look.
Hayabusa - A big-arse dung beetle. Just the top half of the fairing, the whole rear end, and how it looks so low-slung whenever someone is riding one...it just gives me that impression.
Katana - Ladybugs. Moves like one, sounds like one, looks like one, apparently are powered by a couple of 'em.
TL-R - Same as SVS, except needs to ease back on the grubs.

I even like the whole Parking Light feature.
I'll use it if I pull off to the side at night or something...just so there's a little announcement of my presence to the Big Mean Nasty Cages out there.
I'll also do the same if I run into a store or something quick like that, and I'm parked in a lot... Let's face it. Car drivers are stupid. (I know because I sometimes unfortunately am one.)

P.S. I am entirely intrigued by this whole different colored bulb thing...Blue would probably look good on Stella...

Did you just buy a bulb at Autozone or something?
How's it look during the day?
don't put a blue bulb in there. i did it, and got pulled over twice in one day. coronado cops are anal. anyway, it's illegal to have any blue lights in the front of your vehicle. it seems people could confuse me with a police man.(yea, right)
I always rip out the cyclops light, makes for a good air duct/bug catcher.

Found my parking light last night! :)
I also found that I can't push-start an SV650 with a dead battery. I just don't weigh enough. Had a friend pushing me, and even in second or third gear the engine would only turn once before the rear tire started skidding. Luckily, security where I work had a jump start battery to get me going. A lucky day for me there. Suzuki really needs to re-design that stupid switch. And I need to start paying attention when I lock the bike. :o

You really couldn't bump start it. I weigh 150 and was able to bump start mine. Took about 10 tries but I finaly did it.

I found my yellow light at a car boutique in Little Tokyo. But I'd assume they have 'em all over.
As for bump/jump starting the sv. I found that even if I could get the damn thing running it ran like the timeing was way off. I had to get some sort of charge in the battery before it would run right. Weird.

I have a blue light in mine, i guess im lucky cops over here on the east coast don't see to worry about it that much. It looks sweet with my blue halogen headlights

My center light doesn't work.
My bike was originally an SV, and I converted it to SVS. I never did figure out which wire went to the center light, so I left it disconnected.

Yeah... If SVRider.com ever comes back, I think they had it in their tips'n'tricks section... It does involve snipping some wires though...

Anyone replaced the standard front center light bulb with a white LED bulb?
These look as though they would fit, and be bright as well

02SVS - Marker Light Bulb (the little one on top of the headlight)
What's the size for that light bulb?
Are there any other colors available? or is there one that is WHITE?
I now run pretty white H3s on my headlight.... i can't bear the yellowish marker...
I took it out now... which make my SVS no longer looks like SVS in the dark...
So... I would like to find something of a different color or something WHITE!
Any ideas?

Ok, I went thru the whole "Change the marker light to a different color" thing, I like purple so I put a purple bulb in,it looked shite and was more pink than anything else, blue was wishy washy and the orange/amber just looked plain bad.
I agree that with bright white H3 headlights the marker looks yellow and crappy, but I'd just put up with it if I were you, it aint worth the money or the aggravation.
For what it's worth though,I didn't get any grief from the cops for any of the colors I tried up front.

I have heard of some people hooking the little light wire up to an alarm, so when you put it in parking, you are arming the alarm.
BTW they are called wig-wags, zig-zags are, well, like Kurt said...

So, in pulling fuses and taping up for the track this weekend, I discovered that the parking lights aren't on the same fuse as either the high or low mains, or the instrument panel/signals... anybody know how to disconnect these short of removing the bulbs?

i think it would be easier just to remove the bulbs behind the plastic cover, rather than looking for a fuse to it. they seem to be on a different constant than the headlights.

Went into Autozone to get some dielectic grease to put in my front spark plug lead (water in front plug=fucking nightmare in rain going thru turn with intermittent power delivery), anyways, after giving up on a bulb alternative I happened to find these bulbs (hope I attached the right image), it's not super bright as bulb has a chrome type finish to it but it is now a cleaner looking white (compared to the yellow white stock bulb) to match my super white headlamps. Pic shows chrome bulb on left and stock clear on right.

Now I've heard of Painting the inside of the lense using candy paint. The candy is clear so light will still shine through and the color will more pronounced. I'm going to give it a try if I can find some blue candy paint.

That annoying little marker light isn't connected to a fuse. There's only a few things you can do about. 1. Remove the bulb. 2. Cut the brown wire running to the light. Or you could find a bulb in the color you want. I use a blue LED and it's great. Cops in Florida don't care what color it is as long as it doesn't flash
