Hi every one, i 'm not sure if this thread belongs here but well.
I just got the svs about 1 month ago, i had experience riding on a 25o ninja (oh my ninjeta :( ). Well i have been only conmuting all this time, so this weekend i decided to explore new roads, and i went to palos verdes, but once i was there, i really had no idea where to go,and i felt like i was missing some nice places. So here comes the question?
What's your favorite path on palos verdes? or is anyone planing a trip to palos verdes let's say mhhh next weekend?
I'm a slow rider, and the twisties still freak me out a little, so i take them slow and easy.
So if you are planing a trip to palos verdes and don't mind to ride with a newbie, please let me know so we can plan something.
thank you guys.

....there isn't any ride-able twisties in PV that I can remember.............except for that road right on the coast.........but it's still not really that twisty.......
....PV is good for a scenic cruise........but not really that good for a sporty ride......
....you got to come down to the Ortegaaaa........

Yeah..PV isn't all that twisty, but at least you have the whole PCH vibe. I used to live right on PCH just down the hill a ways. You're probably not far from Angeles Crest, though it takes a while just go get to the freeway from PV...I found that annoying when I lived in the area (Hermosa). Setter's got the right idea..adopt a road and move there. :D

mhhhh, ortega, do you guys think it would be safe for a newbie?
I'm going to do a research, but if palos verdes is too boring, so what do you guys recomend for a newbie introduction to the twisties?
I just want to start on the safe side.
thank you

Stick to the front side...it's not as technical as the back. I think it's more of a relaxed ride, but has enough twists to keep you from getting bored.

......when you decide to come on down here...........let me know.......
.....I'll pace you through it.......
.....as with all things...........it will be a bit difficult at first...............but after a few runs........you're gonna be honkin at me to get out of your freakin way........
.....
.....just so you have a point of ref......................my first couple of times on the Ortega........I had to pull over for the cagers........
.....I was very slow.......
.....but Ortega is a very predictable road...........good surface.........and the curves are not too tight...........
....it'll be a nice ride for you................the speed matters not.....
:D
Since you're just starting, PV might actually be okay. The twistiest stuff is on PV Drive East, but it's not very long. You can get done with the ride in around 10-15 minutes. If you want a relaxed ride, the PV Drive circuit (east, south, west, north) is pretty nice but quite straight.

Nobody here likes Malibu??? Encinal Canyon would be good for a beginner and stunt road would be alright if you took it slow. . and there's always latigo and decker canyons for when you want to try something tighter.

Thank you for your replies guys.
I went to PV already,i liked the road that follows the coast for about 20 miles,it is nice but way too short.
I think malibu is closer than ortega from me, (thank you for offering to walk me thru ortega setter32), i think i'll go malibu first then.
Now i have to find out how to get there, and what would be a good path to follow.
any sugestions?
any other no fast rider familiar with the area going to malibu so i don't get lost?
thank you again guys, and thank you for the link ying82.

Just take PCH north. If you want to take Encinal Canyon, go past Pepperdine quite a few miles, it is on your right.
To get to Stunt Road . . . you can take PCH to Topanga Cyn. Rd., make a left onto Mulholland, then make a left onto Stunt Road. Once you're at the top of Stunt, you can make a left or a right, or turn around, I would recommend doing Stunt a few times and then making a right if you want something a little more interesting. This will take you to Piuma where, if you make a right, it makes a nice loop back to Mullholland.
I think the best thing fo you to do is ride Malibu during a weekday so there's very little traffic.
Will is right about Lower Big Tujunga, but I still like Malibu better because there are SO many roads there that it will take you a while to get bored :)

p.s. check www.pashnit.com, like ying said.

hi pinaloca, tks for the directions, is there any place where i can go and eat something near by those places you are pointing on the directions?
are there any other things to do once i'm there ( museums, lakes, etc.)?
thank you

There is stuff to eat on PCH, and near the 101 freeway, but little in the canyons. There's not much in the way of museums either, but I think there is A lake off of Mulholland, west of Stunt Road. Mostly there are just great views and awesome roads.
You should definitely get a map because there are lots of roads to explore.
Aaron
While Angeles Crest is my favorite road in the world (that's why I moved close to it), if you're looking for decent eats and a place to hang out for a bit around the Mulholland areas, just take Mulholland to its end on PCH, turn right, and find Neptune's Net. You'll probably turn into a frequent visitor.

PV East is a fun little mini-romp which goes up from the coast road of PV North (I think) and continues down the other side into Torrance. The first part is basically four or five turns, which are smooth, sweeping and usually quiet so you can really get yer head down on them...I usually go up and down this section a few times before heading down the other side of the hill, which is also good but lined with houses and driveways and lots of slow-moving SUVs driven by old ladies, and it's too tight/dangerous to pass in most spots.
Ortega SUCKS unless you do it mid-week...or unless you like following long lines of cages and RVs at about 30mph...lotsa cops on that one too.

ok guys, acording with what you have told me, i planed this route to follow.
route (http://www.losaltosboots.com/Map2D_1.jpg)
i would be coming from santa monica, then go up via topanga cny road and then mulholland then stunt road, then piuma rd then retake the mulholland all the way to the PCH and take a nice cruise along the PCH going back to venice beach.
What do you guys think, is it ok?

i did the trip, beautiful, stunt road is greate and topanga is good also, i didn't finish the whole trip because of a broken clutch lever and a broken shift pedal, :( but this weekend i'm going back to finish the whole trip.

I know safety is a good thing but wearing two helmets is a bit excessive :)

lol
well, i was thinking "i might not have full leathers but, i'll take my extra helmet just in case"
Althought what i should have had with me was an extra clutch lever for my little accident, but that is another story. :D

Clutch lever, eh? The cheap levers on the sv's are always breaking off, or did you drop it? Hope everyone involved is ok.

well, we could say i drop it, what happened is that i had a passenger, but it was his first time riding, and it was my first time taking a passenger, so in an stop sign, i had only one foot on the ground, he tried to get off the bike without leting me know it, and he jumped on the side where i didn't have any support at all, so when i planted my other foot on the ground, the bike was half way down, it was too much weight for my leg and i just had to let it go, resulting on a broken clutch lever and a broken shift peddal, :(.
i can't believe this things are so weak, it was half of way down when i released the bike, it was not a big fall at all, i didn't think something was going to brake.
Once i wheelied my ninja 250 and i droped the bike like doing 30 mph, and the clutch was a little bit bended, but nothing was broken on that bike, and with the svs, just a little drop and i got a 90 dollars damage.
Well, at least i didn't droped it runing.
lol i had to take the bike from the top of stunt road all the way to PCH with the bike in 2nd.
well, at least nothing else was damaged.
Frame sliders are in my shopping list now.
