Cops. Po-po. The Fuzz. F'ing Pigs. Whatever you want to call the boys in blue, they are always on our minds when we're out riding. "It was a good day at Palomar. No cops." Is something I have said myself a zillion times when describing a good ride. If we know where the cops are, we will actively choose to ride somewhere else in an attempt to avoid being put down by The Man. But eventually you are in the wrong place at the wrong time and you get busted. So I wanna know for what and how often? Are you a one time offender, or do you seem to attract the attention of the authorities often (you know who you are, SVSPete, Longdong Silver, Madmakr, etc. :p )?
So vote on what your DMV record looks like and post up if you have something to say. You can also vote more than once.

I have not been busted on my SV after riding 4300 miles on it and have never been busted on a bike at all after riding hundreds of motorcycles (owned 10) since 1969. Can't make any promises about tomorrow, though.
The closest that I came to a ticket was when I was working as a Honda mechanic and tuned up one of the most beat up, piece of junk Honda CB 450's that I have ever seen. I took it out to the back road that ran along a railroad switching yard (very limited access) and kicked it up to 90 or so. I stopped at the end of the yard, and as I was turning around, a black and white pulled in behind me in a most impressive cloud of dust. Both cops got out with real pissed looks on their faces, so it looked like I was going for a ride to the police station. One of the cops looked at me after I took my helmet off and asked me if I worked for Bob's Honda and I did, so I said yes. He said " Be Safe and Don't Get Hurt! They both got back in the car and drove off without checking my license or anything else.
The Honda dealer that I worked for fed the local police coffee and doughnuts and gave them very good deals on their personal bikes. I guess that in my case, this policy definitely paid off. I found it ironic that I was stopped after speeding on one of the smaller, shittier bikes that I had ridden that year, and I certainly was not going anywhere near as fast as I would have on a Honda CB750 or a GL1000.

I can't bring myself to vote, cause I'm sure it'll come back and bite me in the ass.

Fighting 2 tickets by written dec right right now.. No traffic school because I had a ticket last year.
Never get me when I am actually doing something bad.. always when I am just zoned out on the commute.
I'm going to win!:hog: I've also been pulled over 3 additional times in the last 2 months, but I argued out of those before they got their pen out.
F$ckers!

Need to add choice 5:
Been to traffic school so many times, could teach the class.
Best response heard to teacher query "What possible reason could you have for driving over 100 mph?!!"
"It was a straightaway."

I've gotten "talked to" by the cops more times on the bike in the last year than total tickets in 6 years of driving a car. That's all it ever is, a talk, though. They usually start off with the "you know I can bust you asshole" tone, then they want to ask me about the bike. Like is it a yamaha.
I did tell one that it was an R1 with crashed out fairings . . .

Lets's see:
1.One for 95 in 65 and riding without proper endorsement on the fwy (no license, just permit). Thankfully this one was thrown out.
2. 91 in 65....went to traffic school
3. Crossing double yellow. This one was stupid, I was lane sharing and working my way up to the left turn lane. I crossed and double yellow that was what the officer called a simulated island. F'in stupid.
4. Almost got another crossing double yellow out by Julian. Cops pulled over three friends and I just kept going. :squid:
5. Most recently got a 95+ in a 65 in my car. Doing level two traffic school for that one and paying $340.
Safe to say now that I am slowing down. I try my best not to speed anymore. It's not worth it. Or maybe I am just getting old.
Oh, and almost forgot the last one....a stupid "fix-it" ticket for not having DOT approved turn signals. Now that one was really annoying. Does the guy (a Ssn Diego PD motorcycle cop) have nothing better to do? And then to bring it all together, when I got it signed off at the police station, the guy didn't even check them.

Seems that from meeting a few people on this board and attending the last gathering, the SV650 seems to attract a certain buyer/rider that is more mature and oddly enough seems to be some type of computer nerd, myself included. (nerd being an enduring term used with the utmost in respect)
This slightly older, wiser and nerdier rider more than likely doesnt commit motorcycle suicide or get busted by the law as frequently as your average gixxer, CBR rider. Not to say we SVers dont have a blast and tear A$$ around, but we just are smart enough to not get caught :D
Outlaw you ask? Well yes, but in a sneaky, corner carving in the shadows kinda way.

Sounds a lot like me, if you change slightly older to considerably older. Does ownership of an SV1000S count as being less mature or more mature?
I did most of my crazy stuff when I was a lot younger. I was a bit crazy on a motorcycle and thought nothing of it, it was all in a day's work at the Honda shop. No reason not to have a bit of fun when out testing a large displacement bike.

ugh... I posted a huge reply, but it crashed upon submission. Long story short...
"In danger of losing my lisence"
24 encounters with police from age 16 through this past weekend--I'm almost 25, in case you're wondering. End results ranging from written, verbal, and symbolic (fashing rollbar lights for a moment) warnings and fix-it tickets, fines, court time, and sobriety testing.
No high speed persuits, per se, since i just plain dissappeared a couple times. Most recently--this past weekend--a group of us were rounded up and given a verbal warning to "leave the county immediately." :D

Well, lets just say when picking out my new 636, a very large factor in choosing the color was "what color will less likely draw attention to bored police officers?" I purposely chose SILVER to help blend in and maybe not stand out so much when I am doing 1?? on the 15. I guess all black would be the ultimate sacrifice for stealth mode. But it has no contrast, is dirty 95% of the time and HOT.

I'd think silver is actually a better stealth color than black, as it blends in more with the grey of the asphalt you're traveling on... :geek:
By contrast, my last speeding ticket (on a motorcycle, at least) was in 1987...on a bright "sunburst "orange BMW R90s.....on the Ortega Highway.
IMHO, there's prolly 5-10 vehicles breaking the speed limit on any given road for every one that isn't (I do 80 mph on the 118 just to keep up with traffic on the weekends) when the opportunity affords itself, so getting picked out as the lucky one is prolly just as much a matter of luck as it is skill (or lack thereof).
