Westbound on Sunset Blvd., between Will Rogers park and Brentwood going towards the PCH...there's some "construction" going on there, very poorly marked. I was traveling at the posted speed limit (25 MPH) and still did $700 damage to my rims. 4" pothole in the center of the right handlane. Nice.

I recently hit a pothole on Mulhulland Dr near Coldwater...About 500 bucks damage on my front wheel/ tire/ etc I feel your pain and it sucks!

A few people said I could claim from the city, but I havent pursued. Anyone know how or what to do on this?

That would be so awesome if the city was held liable for this. You see, this pot hole is not "natural", it was created by construction workers who felt that since their workday of ripping up the road was over, they could just walk away from the 4 " hole. Of course, this hole, being in the middle of the road, doesn't affect all the Beemers, Mercedes and Porsches out in Brentwood. That's probably why the city doesn't care.

similar thing happened to me whilst living in SF...i tried to get the city or the contractors that were doing work in the area to pay up, never happened. i didn't get legal help involved tho, that would probably help

You look so sad.

What happened? Who was leading the ride you were on? Didn't they warn you of the pothole or anything?

What a chump.

Yeah, that Nan-dooch never warns of any oncoming objects, like the giant boulder on Stunt Rd I had to point out to him 3 times :D

Secretly, I think he likes to lead others into "problems."

Nando, doesnt someone always go down or break their bike on rides you lead?

Even though my hitting the pot hole was 100% Nando's fault....he is facilitating a new rim swap! So I cannot be mean to him until after I get the rim.

Did you go down or break your bike on our ride Saturday?

Oh wait! I don't know actually!

You were so far behind me the whole time.

I just got a letter from the city saying my claim has been denied. Sigh. Guess it's off to small claims court.

Someone please tell me how they could come to this decision, as the letter simply tells me my claim has been denied with no explanation, and I called the "investigator" and he refuses to return my call. I mean, the city (or a contractor under their hire) tore up the street and I ran over the pothole the workers made...and somehow the city isn't liable? TELL ME!

Sounds like the Investigator needs a visit from some very big men in the wee hours of the night. Maybe they could persuade him to change his mind...

Summarily Denied. I'm pretty sure you'll have to appeal or sue.

It is just like when you get a parking ticket in LA and you fight it, the first rejection notice is returned back to you almost immediately after an undisclosed "review" It's just another blockade to go through.

6 months is "almost immediately"? ;)

resubmit the claim as an appeal...my mothers car once hit a hge pot hole and it blew the tire off the rim...after a few tries they got a new wheel... send them an estimate ..there is a big push city wide to fill pot holes...so they know the damage they cause
