FYI: On Saturday, May 15, Main Street in Ramona will be closed between 3rd St. and 17th St. from about 9:00am to noon due to the rodeo parade.

Getting around it can be done, but it'll be a fuster cluck.
:D

Sorry Chris! I went for a super early ride (6:00am) and missed your question. Hopefully you had no trouble getting through. Since it is the rodeo parade, the potential to ride through piles of poo is frighteningly high after the road re-opens. :(

Let me know if you have any interest learning some of the Main Street avoidance routes I take. Traffic still spooks me a bit, so I've found some interesting routes in and out of town.

Got thru by 8.30am and then came back after 12.30pm so no probs with crowds and fortunately no animal crap!!!
I'd love to know some town avoidance routes, can you pm them to me please????? Thanks. :D

Will do. I'll post maps on Monday when I have access to a faster connection. I'm on dialup at home. Yes, we DO live in the sticks! :p

I was thinking maybe some of you folks should have a way to contact my husband and me on the weekends, just in case mechanical gremlins and whatnot strike while riding through Ramona, Santa Ysabel, Julian, etc. PM me if so!

In case anyone ever needs to get through Ramona and it's one of the odd weekend days that Main Street is partially closed off, here are a few alternates. Many of you probably already know them, but I don't often run into bikes on the last two options.

From Highland Valley Road into Ramona

- Straight through the stoplight @ HVR & Hwy 67
- Follow it to San Vincente Rd
- Left on San Vincente
- Right on Hanson Lane
- Left on Keyes
- Right on 3rd Street/Old Julian Hwy

From Hwy 78 North into Ramona, if heading to Santa Ysabel

Turn left at the big right-hand sweeper, Haverford Rd
Follow it as it makes a left, becoming Pamo Rd
Right on Pile St
Right on Magnolia
Left onto Hwy 78 East

Hwy 78 N into Ramona, if heading south back to HVR

- Right on Ash Street (there's a big chuch on the right)
- Follow that road around as it makes a few turns & becomes
other streets (Cedar, Summer Glen, Olive and then Davis)
- Left on Montecito
- Right onto Main Street/Hwy 67

Yes, and as you are going down Hanson Ln past the San Vicente intersection and you see a house on the right with a bright orange door just prior to the Ashley/Hanson stop sign, give out a honk, that's my house :D

At lunch the other day, Chris (BioTek) mentioned that riding into Ramona on a weekday afternoon is a perilous journey. Highway 67 North by Mt. Woodson is two lanes, but narrows to one lane just past Archie Moore Road. It seems that many of my fellow Ramona residents are haters and try to pinch off bikes that are lane-splitting just before that narrowing to one lane. Since I've seen this for myself, I know it's a sad but true fact.

So, if you're planning to ride to Ramona on a weekday during the afternoon commute, you may want to try taking a left onto Archie Moore Road to avoid the haters. It will dump you back onto Hwy 67, but well past the stop-and-go crap that brings out the worst in folks.
