I'm looking at going riding on Sunday and want to find out if anyone is interested in meeting up. I've been thinking about finally riding Palomar, and would like to go with someone who is more experienced. :o
Failing that, I know the road to Julian pretty well and could ride with some newbies that might want to try it out. I won't be able to get started until about 9am, though.
Anyone interested, let me know.

Can't do Sunday(football and Palomar's crowded on Sundays), but if you're off Monday, I'll be glad to show you the Mountain. A weekday is also better if you've never ridden it before. No speedracers zooming by you, and less traffic to worry about.

I'm up for it! Where are you planning to start from? I live near Eastlake.

I'll be heading up there around 11:00am on Sunday with a couple of other 929er's. This will be their first time up there also, so we'll go up there easy on the first run.
Kind of a late start, but let me know if you are interested.

Wild Bill,
We'll have to try and meet up when you get there. Who knows? I might even have someone with me on a 929, he's been posting on here as LittleMadMan. If he can get his tired old bones out of bed early enough to go:D . These old folks sure need their sleep.
As for meeting up with anyone else, we can wait and see how many people want to go and where they all are, and then pick a spot from there.
I have done Palomar before, during the week, and it is nice and empty. But that kinda ruins the whole group riding thing, which is something I have definitely begun to enjoy. These solo rides have gotten a little boring.
And, last but not least, I haven't ruled out a ride on Monday, either. That would probably be a Julian ride.

New to the SVS (only 1000 miles on it). Will try to make it this Sunday. Live in Lemon Grove and usually do Otay Lakes to Palomar and back at the end LIKE long 250 + mile rides. If any one would like to join me on their way to Palomar, I'd be happy to ride with you. I don't have to go FAST if there are any new riders. I'm still learning the bike anyway!
Was close to scraping heads on my R1100S Beemer before I had some up close and personal time with the asphalt. So, I'm no slouch when I know my bike. As I said earlier, still working on that.
If anyone has another idea about how to get there, I'm ALL ears (NOT really - their normal size). Please let me know!!!!!!
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I'm up for a ride this weekend, never been to Palomar.
Could be either Palomar or Otay, which is better for me (few blocks from home) :)

Well, I wanted to see where everyone was at to try and get a central location for everyone to meet. But since it's spread out so much, I'm wide open for suggestions. I've been debating going up there via Julian. And as for a time, I was looking at about 9 to get started. But I'm wide open for ideas.
MMAC isn't too far away from where I am, so we could meet up pretty easy.
And I've been a little surprised that there hasn't been more responses to this ride. Oh well, if anyone that is going wants to give me a ring, my number is (619)227-2514.

For anyone that wants to go fairly early, I would suggest that we meet at my place about 9, and then ride one of these routes:
Head through Barona Indian Reservation-Nice sweeping turns- to Ramona, to the 78, to Santa Ysabel, and then up the 76 to Palomar. This is the shortest.
Or..
94 South, to Lyons Valley road, nice twisties, and up to the 79 through Cuyamaca to Julian/Santa Ysable and then out the 76. This will be alot longer, but a little more fun.
Plus, meeting at my place will give me a little extra time to clean up my bike:o It's pretty dirty right now and I don't know if I'm going to be able to get to it today.
Here's my address:

For those of you that want to meet at my place, here is the directions...
-From I-8, take the 67 North.
Take the Riverford Rd exit, staying in the right lane of the LEFT turn lanes. That puts you on Woodside Ave. Follow bottom directions.
-From 52, go to the end and take Mission Gorge Rd exit, and turn left. Keep following it all the way down and it will turn in to Woodside Ave right before it goes under the 67. Follow it all the way down and it meets up with the rest of the directions for everyone.
Once on Woodisde Ave, when the road goes from two lanes to four, there is an apartment complex on your right, Woodside Apartments. Turn in and go to your right and follow it around. I'm about halfway down.
I'll have my bike out front, and I'll probably be out there, too. Hopefully more than just MMAC will show!! If this is a bad spot for you, let us know where you want to meet after that. My phone number is in one of the earlier posts, so take that in case you have a tendency to get lost:D
Phil,
I just got word that I'm needed at a meeting Sunday am til about 11am. I will try to get to Palomar as soon after as possible. About 12, I hope! Sorry, hope to see you and others!!!

Well, about six SVer's ended up at Palomar, but there might have been others that I didn't know about, and WildBill and his friends on their 929's. It was me, Michael(MMAC), Alex(TIFOSO), Gregg(Burst), Rod(??), and the woman who's name I didn't catch, sorry.:o
It started out when one of the 929's ate a guardrail on the first trip down. But he was okay, and was able to ride. Everyone finally got back together and he rode to the bottom where we stopped. That's when things took a bad turn.
Apparantly someone (not one of us) rode into the other lane and went head first into an oncoming truck. We were sitting at the bottom of the hill when someone told us about it. After waiting around for awhile, we took off for the other side of the mountain to get back to the top. Only thing was, LifeFlight had been called and so the other side of the mountain was shut down, also. So we had to wait around until it took off.
LifeFlight is not the way I EVER want to leave Palomar. I definitely rode alot easier after that. I guess it just goes to show you, anything can happen, and it only takes a split second.
