View Full Version : Stunt Proposal, Saturday 11/2

Hi, gang.

The morning of Saturday, November 2nd I will be proposing to my girlfriend, Jodi. I already have about 15 or 20 bikers lined up to help me, but could use every available two wheeler in the area, especially those with loud L-twins (since if it weren't for the SV650, my life wouldn't be what it is, today - and I'm not kidding - this bike changed my life).

My plan is to meet around the corner from her condo in Sherman Oaks at 8:00am, then quietly (perhaps pushing the last 1/2 block) line the bikes up on the street such that they spell out MARRY ME (making sure to get the spelling correct). The next step will be to start up all the bikes at once, which SHOULD prompt her to come out on the balcony to see what's going on. To make certain she'll be outside, I'm sending in her sister-in-law with a video camera.

I hope it's obvious, but my plan is to follow up with actually asking her to marry me, then have everyone rev their engines in order to drown out her "HELL, NO!"

Afterwards, I guess you'll all have to go for a ride or something...as I'll probably have to spend some time with my new fiancee'. I wish I could offer more in return for your help, but the best I can give is the chance a picture of the event will get published in Motorcyclist, and my undying gratitude.

Please say you'll help!

If you can and will, details are as follows:

Saturday, Nov. 2nd, 2002
Ralphs parking lot at the corner of Hazeltine and Ventura Blvd.
Sherman Oaks at 8:00am (though I might have to push it later to give her a chance to wake up a bit, I think earlier probably makes it easier for most people to show up without messing up their whole day)

9:00am - actual proposal

9:15am - you're free to go

Thanks in advance to everyone, whether or not you're available.

That's just too corny to pass up! I HAVE to be there! It'll be worth it just to see the look on her face!

Do you have a plan to make sure she doesn't come to the window while you're getting set up? Would suck if she saw you guys before everything was ready.

I don't know how to post a map directly to this forum, and I'm too lazy to figure it out, right now, so here's a link to a mapquest page.

In brief, it's very near the intersection of the 405 and 101.

Thanks,

-H

I don't want to miss out on this either! SD peeps, let's go.

(edit) SD'ers, meet at Mobil 1 block west of I-5 LJ Village Dr exit at 6AM. If Irvine/OC folks want to meet around 7AM near 405/5, let us know where.

Using my limitless brainpower (it only takes me 5 minutes figure out which is my left foot) I figure it'll take somewhere around 35 bikes to spell "marry me" (and yes I actually took the time to think about it. It's a little slow at work).:geek::D

I'll be there! If anyone else from SD is planning on going, howbout we go together:p

Thanks, guys. The numbers look like they're coming up.

If I'm short, we'll either have to go with lower case letters or some people will have to hold up two white rectangles instead of one (it occurred to me that since she's only on the second floor, I'll have to make sure she can read what the bikes spell).

Looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it.

-Hunter

P.S.: If it's any enticement, Marc Cook, Josh Norem, Tim Carrithers, Andrew Trevitt, Kent Kunitsugu and possibly Mitch Boehm are all supposed to be there.

Wonder how her neighbors will react? especially with all the engines roar at the same time.

Maybe we can use our helmets to make some of the letters. 8-}

I hope it doesn't come down to that. I think I've got 25 bikes, at this point, which should allow us to spell it out, at the very least, in lower case letters.

BTW, I've been wracking my brain, searching for a suitable small thank you gift for everyone who helps, but am stumped. What would anyone here enjoy getting. Please be realistic. ;)

"Maybe she'll come down and check everybody out and decide to marry somebody else"

Watch out, Sherman Oaks have plenty of screen writers and movies directors. Perhaps they may steal the idea and make another movie,
"Bike away bride"

Okay,

Anybody planning on trying to steal my girl is disinvited!

"Anybody planning on trying to steal my girl is disinvited!"

Hey Hunter,

Come on, just want to tease you a bit! :D

How can a :squid: like me steal your girl away? I am ugly but hey I love to tease people, especially to my good friends. I'd tease them until they cry :D

Hunter

Alright,

So I forgot the smiley. If I were really worried about any of you managing to steal Jodi, what business would I have asking her to spend the rest of her life with me.

My internet access will be sporadic for the next few days, so any questions should be sent directly to me at huntermmoore@yahoo.com, or you can call my cell (310) 795-2360.

Off to CLASS for Thursday, and then off to Vegas to drop off a truck for SEMA.

See you all on Saturday morning!

Those who are able to make it might be able to answer that question by using the tokens of appreciation I'll be handing out.

Dollar bills for a trip to a local strip club? :D

Sorry it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it. Hopefully there will be lots of picture-taking and video-taping.

SD early birds, I'll be at the Mobil gas station 1 block west of I-5 La Jolla Village Dr exit at 6AM. Let's ride up! Oh, and if you like country music, I'll take you to Toby Keith concert for free afterwards!

Paul,

You're coming from San Diego? Somehow I missed that you're located all the way down there. You're nuts! I'm going to owe you, big time, for this.

Gratefully yours,

Congrats Hunter! Man, I almost had tears in my eyes when Hunter proposed to Jodi. That was an awesome display of bikes too... probably close to 80 bikes eh?

And David (Lance Stewart) and Will (zzzwillzzz)... it was great riding with guys on Angeles Crest! Hope to see you at Palomar one of these days :)

Paul, was that you I saw on El Camino Real @ Carmel Mountain yesterday evening? You're the only red SVS I've seen in the area... (as with most of my sv sitings, I was in a cage at the time).

Oh... and you failed to mention an important detail... Did she say 'yes'?!

Probably it's me, I was in Sorrento Valley around 4-5PM yesterday... I don't have a left mirror.

Ya, she said 'yes'... (heck, even I would if Hunter proposed this way) hence the congrats :)

Hey Hunter,

I hope the proposal went well. My bike was dead when I was on my way to Sherman Oaks.

Sorry to be so late getting back to this thread. Apparently Saturday was about all I could take after a very busy week. I've had laryngitis and a pretty severe cold/flu ever since Saturday night, so please forgive me for not acknowledging all the help, earlier.

It was great to see all the SV riders who made it out. I'd thank each one of you, personally, but I'm blanking on names...again (some of you have experienced this, personally).

So, thank you to all who made it. The stunt was a tremendous success, far exceeding my grandest hopes. Jodi was absolutely blown away and offers her thanks, as well.

Hope to see you all on an actual ride, soon.
